I think what I didn't expect was that my disillusionment would not be with non-christians. It would be with the modern church. The modern church is what rejected me, and that threw me for a tailspin. The most bad things I've ever seen in my life came from people who claimed to love the lord, and the lord just happened to agree with what they thought was right. What they thought was right was to bully and cast people out of the community. Everywhere I go I see people claiming Jesus also claim a culture of vengeance and hatred. This is the path I am struggling with, and I don't know how to approach it. When I was young and so passionate about Christ, I had no road map for being scared of people from within and not without.
