    Hi this is super helpful! I'm looking into applying to a clinical psychology ma program (recently finished my undergrad with psychology). So I have a few questions. What's the difference between LPA and LPC? Also, are you able to do both therapy and research with a masters? And is it doable to work full time (8am - 5pm) during weekdays and go to school?

    • @KyraJanaeee
      @KyraJanaeee 2 роки тому

      Sorry for the late reply! If you are in a full time program, working full time isn't doable at all. Yes you can do both research and therapy with your masters! LPA is a Licensed Psychological Associate (more focused on assessment/ has to be supervised by a LP) and LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor (more counseling based/ has to be supervised by an LPC-Supervisor). Both licenses allow you to practice from therapy, assessment, research, etc. Hope this helps!

    Overall did you enjoy taking classes in person? I’m in Texas and I chose my masters program online but I’m not sure if it will be the same and will be helpful. I just started though but I’m not sure I’m having doubts if they’ll prepare me for the same things compared to people that are doing it in person.

      I did! In person classes were fun i feel like i got the entire experience and learned a lot. I believe online classes are very convenient especially when there is so much going on in your life. Honestly, I like both options!

    Hey! You're so beautiful 😭 thank you so much for this video, it's really helpful! I'm looking for clinical psychology programs but most of the ones that I see are a PhD and not MA/MS :( However, I was wondering if you could tell me how we can get licensed after getting a masters in clinical psychology and also is there a different exam for getting licensed in most states in the US? Like in general, how does the licensing work😩 it's all so confusing and honestly I'm so overwhelmed 😭 It'd be great if you could help me out🥺

    • @KyraJanaeee
      @KyraJanaeee 3 роки тому

      Hi! Thank you so much☺️ and yes In most states there are two licensing options for individuals with a masters degree in clinical psychology : LPA vs LPC the licensing exam you must take to obtain an LPA is the EPPP (this is the same exam individuals with a PhD or PsyD takes to become a Licensed Psychologist) The exam you must take to obtain an LPC is the NCE LPCs focus more on counseling and therapy while LPAs focus more on assessment

    • @KyraJanaeee
      @KyraJanaeee 3 роки тому

      At first I thought I wanted to be a medical doctor, but I realized that I love helping people by talking things out. So i knew therapy would be a better fit for me. Clinical psychology was perfect because it allowed me to do that and gave me the opportunity to work with almost any population! Currently As a student i am in internship so I get to perform therapy with my own clients at my internship site. I am under the supervision of my professor and a supervisor at the site. So I get a lot of feedback and help when I need it! Also I am taking three three classes right now. I’m learning about multicultural counseling and couples therapy. I never have a boring day thankfully lol and I’m really enjoying my last semester!

    Hi! I’m a high schooler who aspires to a be a clinical psychologist. What are the steps to becoming one after undergrad?

    • @KyraJanaeee
      @KyraJanaeee 3 роки тому

      After undergrad, the next step would be grad school. There are masters, PsyD, and PhD programs in clinical psychology all over the US at different universities and colleges! It is possible to go straight into a PsyD or PhD program after undergrad but it is more challenging and competitive to get into one. A lot of people opt for masters programs and then apply for PsyD and/or PhD programs after!

    (I’ll put all my questions and such in ** to make it easier to know how to respond if you do end up replying :) ) Hey! I know this is late so I don’t know if you’ll be replying, but I’m a 16 year old (for context, as I don’t know a lot about how degrees, college, and grad school work yet) and I’ve been considering going into clinical psych when the time comes or studying it for the last year or so, and been considering psychology all together for even longer. **How long does it take before you can actually work within the field?** I don’t know much about what grad school entails, but seeing as your talking about getting to work with your first client later (at the time of this video) **I’m assuming you get to do some stuff?** It’s just what confuses me is that you said you work as a student technician on campus which **correct me if I’m wrong because I don’t know the details,** I don’t think has anything to do with clinical psych and is just your job right now for the sake of making money. So.. **how exactly were you able to have a client while you’re still in schooling?** **Do you get to do work in the field at all yet or not until you get your final degrees?** I’ll be checking some of your other content!

    • @KyraJanaeee
      @KyraJanaeee 3 роки тому

      Hi! To answer your question, yes I work on campus as a student technician for money purposes. As far as seeing clients right now, I am in training (you can only train if you’re in a grad school program) So that is the only reason why I’m able to see clients! While I’m training I am under the supervision of licensed psychologists/my professors.You won’t be able to officially see clients until you graduate with your masters.

    • @KyraJanaeee
      @KyraJanaeee 3 роки тому

      It was definitely a huge transition! I started grad school the summer after i graduated from undergrad, so I didn’t get a break. But because I started in the summer, I only had to take two classes (one at a time). That made it better because I could focus on one thing at a time and take in and adjust to grad school level work! But honestly making friends and harassing my professors when i needed help really helped with the transition 😂

    • @KyraJanaeee
      @KyraJanaeee 3 роки тому

      Thank you and thanks for watching❤️ I have talked with a lot of my classmates about the financial reality of pursuing a Masters, Psy.D or PhD, and honestly if the program you choose is not funded then it could be a real burden. Many of my peers are still living at home with their parents, others are married with a family, and there are a select few who are kind of on their own. And all of them still say that they experience financial hardships due to the cost of higher education. There aren’t many (if any) graduate scholarships available, so loans are the go to source of aid. With funded programs the cost of tuition is covered and a stipend is awarded to graduate students. PhD programs are the most common funded programs unlike Psy.D programs. Please don’t stress too much! Even though it is challenging, it can be accomplished! I hope this helped!

      Fortunately, my program gave us the option on writing a thesis! So, I choose not to, which i believe was a good choice for me because it would’ve required an additional year in the program. Balancing course load, internship, work, and research lab is a REAL challenge lol but it is doable! I choose not to do any research projects on my own in my lab so I’m just helping with others and that is less stress for me!
