We've had issues with birds stealing the new grass seeds from our lawn, so you're absolutely right that covering the seeded area is an effective way to protect the grass seed from being eaten by birds. I'll make sure to use a net or other covering next time I overseed the lawn to deter the birds. Covering the seeds is a simple but smart solution that I'll be sure to try out. I'm not an expert, but after looking into it, I found that the best times to repair a lawn are during spring and autumn when the weather is cool and damp (we fix our lawns in Spring). Your lawn is most likely to recover well during these times. If your lawn has patches of dead grass from the summer, don't worry, there's still hope for a perfect lawn next season. If you need to sow new grass, the best time is from mid-August to mid-September, depending on the weather in your region. ...It's possible to grow some types of grass in July, but they'll need extra care. Not all grass varieties are suitable for planting during the hot summer months. I hope this information helps!
