Little Jon's Archery Journal 2023 - PART 13: Historical round, hunting trail and distance shooting
Little Jon's Archery Journal 2023 - PART 13
Greetings friends! I'm back at the range doing another full round of the events I'll face in the national championship. This includes the Historical round, where we shoot 6 arrows (3 arrows x2) at 6m, 12m, 18m, 24m and 30m, so a total of 30 arrows. We'll also do the hunting trail, which is basically 3D shooting at unknown distances. 10 targets, but only 1 arrow at each target. And finally there's the distance shooting: 30 arrows at approximately 50m. So check out the video and see how I fare!

Little Jon's Archery Journal 2024 - PART 2 Greetings! Back at the course for the second time this year. That is an interesting three parted competition you are training for. Is this type common in Norway? I only know either shooting on targets or 3d-Animals but never a mixture... it is interesting though

      Just sat down to reply to some comments when I saw yours (usually I'm not this quick to reply 😋). Thank you for your interest! The competition I am training for here is the national championship for historical archery, which is held every year by Norsk Langbuelag (The Norwegian Longbow Guild - approximate translation there..!) They also have an annual inndoor competition where the target and distances also differs from regular archery. NL is not associated with Ianseo or anything, but it is a seperate archery league here in Norway (as I've come to understand it at least). So no, it is not a common type of archery. There are also different rules, dresscodes etc. I may do a seperate video on this at some point. HOWEVER: There is another more common type where one shoot at both targets and 3D animals, called Field Archery. The targets are however pictures of animals. So you'll face a mix of paper targets with animals and 3D targets, and both known and unknown distances. I think this is pretty common around Europe, though I've yet to try it. Looks fun though! Thanks for watching. I hope you'll stick around for future uploads 😃 (And feel free to comment/reply if you have any more questions!)

      @@littlejonarcher thx for the answer. Since I am a primitive bow enthusiast myself (english longbows as well as other types) I like to watch videos with people shooting primitive Bows ; ) and your training sparked interest. Here in Germany I very much like to attend 3d competitions organized by archery clubs. I very much despise target archery, it is just not for me, I have somehow trouble keeping interest and concentration up shooting boring circles : )... I have yet to attend a "serious official" 3D-competition which I plan to do next year. Anyway, nice videos you are making, keep it up and I'll keep watching ^^....

      Thanks! I actually had to check this for the first video in this playlist, and the rules said that if the arrow penetrates the hoof/horn/etc, and hits the animal behind (as I t did here), it will count. But you are correct, generally, a hoof shot is considered a miss - in Norway as well 😁 Nevertheless, should have gotten some decent footage of it...! Thanks for watching and engaging :D

    Hi Jon, if it's doable, I think adding 1 or 2 small rubber loops to hold a pen or pencil would be a great addition,another idea would be to maybe redesign is in a manner that let's you keep some kind of outer shell and replace the score card inserts as you use them up. Looks great though!

    A scorebook for World archery would be pretty neat, my local 3D club shut down for good a while back so I can only shoot world archery fita target, so a scorebook for those rounds would be sweet, plus I think it would be cool if on the odd page you included some tips and tricks for archers on the field (quick way to judge distance, how to check brace height with your hand, arrow straightness by spinning in palm of hand etc) 👌

    Rain would be a big issue, when we keep a physical score book in 3d practice sessions. I am not sure about the viability of waterproof pages. Maybe you can include a cute little cover for your book. It would be nice to have little more space in the notes section to write about the take away from that particular session.

    Concern with zero comments out of 1k views. So caught the finger shot/range finder interesting. Yet you gloss over arrows/bows[2?] products/material and a simple pen, pencil or nocking/scarring the two arrow would have help you not reshoot. Maybe make a half dozen with a few cm longer/shorter to test. Marking 1-6 and recording results with range performance will give you a better picture. Good luck

      Thank you for taking the time to comment, and I appreciate the tips! Not sure I understood what you meant though 😅I plan to make more videos about my equipment later, but yeah, I should have explained more about the bow (45#@28") and arrows (spruce 45-50 spine), hopefully I learn along the way😁 Regarding the number of arrows I made, I had planned to make more, but since I had a finite number og shafts, I decided to start with those two, and cut them even further if needed, and then do the final length of the remaining shafts.

    • @grumpyoldguy6117
      @grumpyoldguy6117 8 місяців тому

      Has you can see even asking questions brings questions. Budgeting is always a factor; 45# with a 28 draw testing with 29? spruce 45-50 spine arrows with wght field tips. Equipment made by local archer or yourself, shafts tips? Did that local archer make the bow that disqualified your win?*** fiberglass vs non fiberglass etc
