I have the same ovs 180 awning located on the same side and thinking about purchasing a naturenest rtt. Did you use different brackets for your awning, or is it the three ovs brackets?
I'm using the three mounting brackets that come with the awning.

I didn't see any snakes but probably because it was cold. According to online information it is common to encounter rattlesnakes in spring and summer at Alabama Hills.
Don't worry, there are plenty of snakes, they are everywhere and are waiting for you to visit. Enjoy your visit and be kind to the snakes.

Thank you Chris! Your GX is very capable (with good set A/T tires) that will take you on most trails in stock form. Start small and work on the build later. Just get out there start exploring.

Thanks Terry! I got the awning from Amazon made by OVS. Great coverage and so easy to setup and teardown. Great price and well built. I love my Joolca double shower tent. Planning to get their Hottap Nomad kit for longer overlanding trips.

I camped there a little over a month ago in my 4Runner. What an interesting place! It was my first time in my setup. I have since taken out the platform bed as I rather have the headroom available.
