If she really hated being late she would take into account the road work and leave early enough to accommodate for the delays. If her home health client makes it troublesome for her to leave in time to get to work, she needs to choose which job is her priority. Imagine catering and babying each employee like this?

Nobody is waiting around for me when I’m late and I’ve been late almost everyday for 2 years I don’t think my job cares very much but then again I do my job better than anyone else so I guess I’ll take the good with the bad. I told my boss straight up if I was on time everyday I would have been on there necks about getting a raise so I tell them that it benefits them as well a little manipulation goes a long way at work.

Everything has to be race, huh? Listen, if you can’t take care of people and still keep a good attitude, then you don’t need to be in this business. It is a service position. And you don’t have to do housework if you tell them upfront that you don’t do that, before taking the position. But if they really need the housework done, then you should be willing to do whatever it takes for them, without having a pity party and without playing the race card. One thing to remember, ITS NOT ABOUT YOU! The more you make it about you, the more miserable you’ll be. But...making immature videos is a good outlet for your frustrations, I suppose.

Minimum wage gives children pocket change while suppressing the incentive to become adult. Corporations soak up the added cost by reducing pay increases for entry level management. Net effect: Pay gap between starting worker and the person managing those starting employees is closed, thus taking away incentive for anyone to progress, particularly preventing children from developing into adults. Those same children who become young adults will soon need a job, and they need to be making more money so they can go to college and/or raise children. Management jobs provide the fuel for responsible young adults, and we should be supporting them and not the children living at home with their parents who already earn $50k-$250k/year.

SPOT ON! You ladies nailed it! Considering the amount of house cleaning I'm asked/expected to do I often consider hiring myself out as a maid instead of a health aide; maids make more $$, and never have to brush teeth or wipe bottoms!

No one ever said I want to grow up and work very hard for very little being a caregiver. It is a job you take when your in dire need of income. Caregivering agencies are a business. They earn profits. But expect employmees not to want paid fairly by using corporate propaganda with that rewarding career bullshit. So tired of the fakness. I respect honestly. Just tell the truth, you need people to do work no one wants to do for low pay so the company can get a fat check from the government waiver program.

Having a whole situation be vauge and half solving issues is not being an adult Working through issues with an employee wholeheartedly and in a manner that helps put their mind to rest too is not childish, it's being a good manager.

As a supervisor I find this coaching strategy very empowering for the employee. More supervisors need to harness a person's positive abilities rather than pounding them at what they are not good at. Being a supervisor means being a leader. An leaders never act like they are better than their subordinates. Rather, leaders are to lead people through example and empower them to find their own capabilities.

I can speak for dSP all over this country ...There's nothing like the feeling of getting a paycheck that matches your work where you can provide for your family ...As a DSP worker you will NOT be able to do it with one job. In some cases the clients you serve live in better situations than their caregivers Now that is a problem!

The manager is acting like a professional counselor! The problem--the employee is a heroin addict. There is no way to be certain this is a traffic issue! The supervisor is wrongly participating diagnostic assessment and taking responsibility for counseling the employee. No referral to the EAP!?!?!...oh, no EAP?? If this employee is a drug addict, she just snowed the supervisor and the problem and risk will return.

Why do we live in a society that babies employees/people..... at what point do we grow up and start taking responsibility for our own actions. If someone was to say, " The first person that arrives too work early, will receive a check for $5000.00," I guarantee she would leave home on time so she could arrive to work early. I absolutely refuse to baby grown adults.... if you are adult enough to apply for the job, you should be adult enough to do the job. Has anyone ever noticed how people can arrive to interviews on time, but can't arrive to work on time......As a manager I have always wondered, why do people apply for jobs that they don't want to do.....Bottom line, Get to work on time! !

How the hell does what you said help the people move even a single inch forward and improve the company? Mark you seem like you've faced this frustration more than once, been let down, repeated failed promises, must be incredibly annoying. However you seem like someone who's been a manager or a while so you're doing something right and feeling confident in other areas of your work. The thing you've always wondered about, it is also frustrating isn't it as it stops you moving forward too? L:ike fumbling in the dark and awkwardly hitting your head, painfully stubbing your toe. This is the same pain your workers are feeling as they wonder why they keep failing at getting to work on time, trying different options and still disappointing you and themselves, letting down customers and the company, threatening their ability to put food on the table as I'm sure you would consider important. Mark I would appreciate if you wish to share what have you tried before and how did the PHI approach go for you?

Well, I know why people apply for jobs they don't want it's because they need money but don't have the skill set to do something else 98% of the time. With that said, I've been in a job that I don't like for the last 10 years and I do it because I need to get paid. That doesn't mean I show up late or don't take my job seriously. I have a very strong work ethic and I'm ALWAYS 10-15 minutes early. I find that the people who take their jobs less seriously are usually those who don't need the money as badly like 20 somethings who still live with their parents or someone who is just using the job as supplemental income. I think "need" is a very big determining factor in how an employee is going to treat their job. I can't tell you how many times I've seen young kids get hired and they disappear without a word as soon as they get their first paycheck because someone else is supporting them...

I'm also a hha and diety aide I don't mind cleaning, cooking and providing the person personal care but don't like when family does not allow you to do your job and try to get in your business because alot of them feel they own you or try to push their religion on you even though in the training they tell you not to get involved in religion but the clients want to often bully the aides and these nurses are one of the biggest problem they come and treat you like a child they don't know how to just come and do their job and leave so I understand some of the issues with the health field.

A lot is not being said here. Does Home Care Partners pay overtime to workers who regularly work over 40 hours per-week or only when there's an emergency? Do all the workers earn the same $13.80? Are you part of a franchise, i.e. are you able to absorb the extra cost? It's very nice HCP can do this. Most agencies either cannot or will not if the companionship exemption is struck down, they will just cap the hours as many have already done such as Partners In Care in NY, the largest in the East Coast.
