Sitting here shaking my head.
Great idea and cheaper
Hi there I think this is a beautiful patio ❤ I’m sorry but what is the name of the board you laid down on top of the pallets I wasn’t able to hear it .
Damn that still ended up $500 in cost?! It looks great and I love the “it’s good enough for now” projects lol but damn I’m hoping to do mine for the price of the screws! 😅
great
Aware this is an old video, but anyone have any advice on whether using plastic pallets would be a better option to ensure lasting? Obviously trim and top would still be wood, but would they screw in okay to plastic pallets?
@@caz2401 I definitely feel like it would be a better option. No chance of them rotting away overtime. And I also feel like depending on the type of plastic it should be fine to screw into, I would just be careful not to strip them out.
You don’t need drywall plastic things for the screws?
@@thatsmallcloud Cool, thanks for your great opinion!!
The pallets are wood treated to exterior projects?, someone? Thank you
Too small. Shoulda went 3 ft past the deck
@@securethebag1613 Cool, thank you for your opinion!
Nice shoe rack.Thankyou so much
very bad instal post
@@manikkucka2840 cool, thank you for your comment!!
I don't think they're cyber bullying just by suggesting you try to do 2 extra things - 1 level the darn thing, and 2 do something to stop ground contact that will make it rot very quickly. Save yourself the effort; do it right once.
@@jeremynicoletti9060 Cool, thanks!
Exactly what Ive been planning to do. Thank you!
This is a great idea for a novice like me. Thank you.
Curious how this handled rain? I’m in IL so we get huge rains at times. 😢 I want to do same idea, but haven’t bc of worrying about rain lol
I'm curious how well this is holding up 3 years later. Are the 4x4's still holding strong or have they begun to bend under the tension?
We have since moved so I'm not sure. But it was intended to be more of a temporary thing to last a year or 2 until wood prices came back down, since this was when wood prices were outrageous.
Thanks, this seems more simple than what I was dreading on doing
Sent you an email, could you please publish a cut list for this project?
Fun project. A friend wants me to help her build a temporary pallet, so this is helpful for advancing my thinking. I’ll probably do something to protect the pallets better as commented on by several others. The one change I’m going to make is to run the deck board at a 45 degree angle so I can omit the underlayment and still have all the pallets tied together. Will provide better drainage which will hopefully help it last a little longer. I’ll just run the deck boards a little long and then trim the perimeter edges with a circular saw. Maybe do a picture frame border around the perimeter as well. We will probably use pressure-treated lumber for the deck boards instead of cedar fence boards which is more expensive obviously, but will allow reuse of the PT boards for future projects (she lives on a farm and always has need for PT lumber for various projects). Thanks for posting.
So dodgy
Cool, thanks for the comment!
@TheWillToMake probably the best value deck that anyone could DIY..
this is more simple than other videos. thanks
This is exactly what I was looking for. My own comments for improving. Mine's going to be 2-3' wide. More of a walkway or maybe even a bench. 1) Weed barrier. Maybe bricks/stones foundation (but can add $). 2) Some sort of treatment/paint on the pallets. Treat/paint all sides of the deck boards, too. 3) Don't do the laminate. Screwing the pallets directly to each other would probably be a lot more stable and allow drainage. 4) Maybe lay the decking boards (I'm going to just use more pallet boards) diagonally (maybe even make a pattern!). 5) Adjust the deck board lengths so you don't have tiny little pieces like the square at the corner. So, basically, what I'm saying is that your idea was sound, and execution was obviously serviceable. Seeing how you did it, I am going to improve upon your design. Good luck on your DIY journey, my brother!
Awesome I’m going to try that! Thanks for the tip👍
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
great job man, you inspire me!!
Ive done this, but over time the waterproof wood glue stopped working. Nails just make the wood split. What can I do instead?
Dont you have to worry about permits and building codes ?
As long as I didn't attach it to the house then no
Land of the fee
Good thing your contractor sent out a beefy helper!
I admire your patience! There are easier ways than this. I'm not watching all your video due to the music. Had to mute and read the transcript. Join the throng of content creators who have stopped adding music. We want tutorials that we can hear, not gigs to attend.
You should've put the pallets in opposite directions for more support & screwed them all together instead of relying on the plywood. Should've sanded all the wood too, before applying paint. Also should've applied Thompsons Water Seal before applying paint too.
Great tips !
I was thinking about doing this with palletts. I mean it makes sense to me. Then, here you are! I'm going to do this. I think I may put deck tiles or rubber tiles on top. I live in a cold climate. Should I put some type of vapor barrier down? Stones? I knew someone else had to have this idea. Thank you!
Better yet, I can use plastic pallets. I didn't know they were a thing. Love it!!!
would have been much easier if you had made a concrete base
Hey, why didn't you give one big shade sail, but two? secondly, why didn't you provide metal pins, e.g. 1 meter long, that can be driven or concreted into the ground? If something happens to the beam, you just replace it and not destroy the foundation...
you're a donut, that was horrible
Did it work?
I Made Me A Coaster Out Of Some Douglas Fur Wich I Thought Was A Good Durable Wood. & It Turned Out To Be Prettygood.
What is with the foam board to use a skill saw who came up with that? Do people know thats its bad to cut breath and never bio degrades?
I'm definitely doing it
Definitely me too, I've been wondering if they wld work for a while now
This has been uploaded 2 years ago, how's the deck now? Interested to try this
It's a nice shelf. For those of us who aren't as good at planning, could you include the measurements next time?
Thanks for this video, I just made a very small 4 x 6 deck with wide fencing from this video inspiration. Added blocks and weed blocker on bottom to lift off ground. I took some of the suggestions, but this was very affordable. If it lasts for a year I will redo larger with better wood, but still use the pallets.
Great job but that water is going to run out whick
Nice job. A suggestion that works for me. Mark your depth measurement on the handles of the post hole deeper with painters tape or other tape. Makes it a little easier. Thanks for the video. Very informative and well explained. Thanks
How's it holding up?
@thewilltomake this is great! Would you mind posting a list of the materials you used for folks who don't have a workspace? I would like to just go and purchase everything and my boyfriend and I can figure out how to screw it all together. Thanks!
Can I have the lumber list and measurements, please. What's your email address?
What sort of screws & stuff did you use to nail it down
I want to do this but add some like cement blocks or something underneath it and then I want to put it by my above ground pool this way I can add a little slide to my above ground pool LOL and the kids don't have to walk around in the grass of the mud the great job it looks fantastic
I didn't see a dimension for the bottom piece.
I am going to add gravel first and a slight concrete topping before I put the crates down and then I’m gonna fill them in with rock pebbles and some concrete
