    I finished the audio book today and for the first time not sure if I liked the ending. I had just about all the same thoughts as you on each character so I'm glad to know I'm not alone. At this point I think Adolin is my favorite character in the series and had the best storyline in this book. His story ending with the only win for Honor's side is perfect. He's the only main character without powers and he Held! We saw him at his best, then take a major blow to see him hit his bottom and even then with one foot missing he overcame that as well. Not only that, he formed a brand new order of unoathed warriors. I love his relationship with Maya, and the new bonds they forged. I kept wanting him to restore Maya and become a radiant, but this was a more satisfying way to grant him/them more powers. In the end he created his own legacy that moves him out of the shadow of the Blackthorn. A legend that will be forever memorialized in Azish history. Thanks for sharing your thoughts I really enjoyed both videos!

      Glad to have people know that others share that sentiment. I saw other reviews with people saying it stuck the landing and thought "whaaat?" Adolin had a fantastic story, and that really contrasted with other's less than impressive arcs. I was so glad to see his win and that he gave the Alliance a clear victory. I am glad you enjoyed it, your comment also means a lot to me <3

    Nope, Shallan's story basically has no interaction with the greater plot and its sad to see, another reason why I felt this book should've been 2.

    • @Otomoking
      @Otomoking 17 годин тому

      Felt the same, the Ghostblood plot has dragged on for too long and the whole " he is my teacher, will I kill another mentor?" felt very hollow to me.

      @@Otomoking Yup, felt it could be completely removed and outside of the impact on the character, It had no meaning for the story itself, very easily could have been saved for another book, as I say.

  • @XBullitt16X
    @XBullitt16X 18 годин тому

    Agreed, good too see more people with these unsatisfied feelings about the book. It somehow felt both too short and too long at the same time, just overall very rushed, poorly edited and with some unsatisfying conclusions or lack thereof.

    • @Otomoking
      @Otomoking 17 годин тому

      It's a good book for sure, but lots of weak spots. I am shocked when I see comments of people who say it's their favorite and it stuck the landing. Like...whaat?

      @@Otomoking Yeah wild for me to see that too, at best I have mixed feelings about it and at worst, Its Brandon's weakest for me. Felt like there were some rookie mistakes from what is and should be a veteran writer, as you say its not like its a really bad book, its just a whole lot weaker than the previous ones. Sad to say I could see some of the issues starting to crop up in the previous book and they only seem to have gotten worse, here. Hardly no Moash, is baffling to me after he was set up, there really should've been a clash between him and Kal and what was done to Jasnah was a crime, it was out of character for her. Adolin was easily the one of the best characters in this book, with what felt like the most natural and satisfying character progression. There are also too many PoVs I'm gonna be honest.

    • @Otomoking
      @Otomoking 16 годин тому

      I made a tier list video of the books and put WaT as lowest. It just didn't have the magic. Moash is becoming less and less of a bridge 4 foe and more... his own thing, which I don't like as much. Jasnah was insanely nerfed just to give Odium a win, that was the biggest mis-fire.

    • @XBullitt16X
      @XBullitt16X 3 години тому

      @@Otomoking Yup agreed, even more so when it was proven that Odium was hypocrite by saving his city and people. He proved both Dallinar and Jasnah correct, really felt out of character for Jas. The relationship with wit, also felt unnecessary because it ended just as soon as its confirmed they were together, like what was the point of including that ? Its very Disappointing what Brandon did with her, I'd also rank this as the worst book out of the 5. I didn't feel the magic either, I felt far less invested and immersed in the story than I used to be. It really did feel like Brandon was rushing through things, because he wanted to get the greater plot line of the Cosmere, which cannibalized this books story and characters.

    • @Otomoking
      @Otomoking 3 години тому

      @@XBullitt16X Odium killing his people to remove a weakness was a powerful scene. Like him visiting his family, I was awed. Then it was a fake out, like cmon dude. Agreed on the relationship, we get like two scenes of them together. This felt like a "tick the boxes" thing. I must have an asexual character, poof Jasnah. Where as Rlain and Renarin was built up since Oathbringer and happened a lot more organically.

    Honestly, the best review so far the I have watched. I am a huge fan of Sanderson and the cosmere. I believe that the way of kings is one of the best books ever written. I felt massively disappointed by a lot of the wind and truth. It seemed like a major deviation for a lot of the characters and almost felt like I was reading an entirely different book. I thought that szeths storyline was wonderful. I enjoyed the backstory we got in the spiritual realm but it felt completely different in all other aspects.

      Comments like these mean a ton to me. I really appreciate you taking the time to write it out and completely agree with you. Too much felt out of place and really the book was overall disappointing. Shinover and Adolin were great and most characters had great moments, but overall, this was the weakest SA book by a decent margin.

    Maybe I’m weird but I don’t really like the other realms. They are just uninteresting. Remember with Jasnah Odium knew every possible move she would make and knew the perfect counter to win Fen over.

      @Otomoking День тому

      A fair point on Jasnah, but it still felt like she got rolled over. I don't mind odium winning, he should have won at least one battle field. But it seemed like he barely struggled against Jasnah at all and that's what bugs me.

    So glad I’m not alone not liking the ghostbloods storyline. It’s been my least favorite plot line since the beginning because Shallan never does anything about them and when she tries she always loses. When she wins here I wasn’t satisfied I was just like finally it’s over we can move on!

    • @Otomoking
      @Otomoking 3 дні тому

      I always thought that was the weakest part of Shallan's story. So often the ghostbloods want the same thing as shallan, and them chasing her in the spiritual realm was like... fine? ok? I am glad we moved past that and hope the next arc gives her something more meaty.

    • @justinrandall9550
      @justinrandall9550 3 дні тому

      @ well I think her motivation makes sense in that she wants Mishram to stay in her prison and knows the Ghostbloods will do something terrible with her so she has to stop them. My main issue really does just come down to how Shallan can never out maneuver them. With every other main character they have moments where they get to best their enemies but Shallan ALWAYS loses to the ghostbloods anytime she has the upper hand it’s revealed no she actually doesn’t and she is forced to do what they want. It could also be because I haven’t read anything other then Mistborn eras 1 and 2 and the stormlight books so all the extra lore with the Ghostbloods is lost on me so they just come across as a really annoying secret organization that can’t ever be bested. Near the end when she finally kills Mraize and has this moment where she feels appreciative of what he taught her and I just did not care and felt it wasn’t really earned. Mraize didn’t really teach her anything just kept her on a hook for more info. Idk I hope her next arc is more interesting cuz while I love Shallan as a character her plots were my least favorite.

    One thing that I have not seen anyone bring up is the live stream comment that Brandon made about the sanderlanch of this book. He said the idea for the ending of this book was the ending of a D&D game he played like 20 years ago (I am paraphrasing). Not that it is confirmed, but I think the way that D&D game ended was basically he flipped the board when he was sure he was losing.

    • @Otomoking
      @Otomoking 9 днів тому

      I read that too and it's a good point. It was a very much an ending of "I don't want to play this game anymore". I really didn't like how Dalinar ended, or how we still have some version of the Blackthorn still fighting. Oath Renouncing was cool the first time, then done twice in a row? eeeeh.

    • @karohe
      @karohe 9 днів тому

      New Oaths were so impactful in the past. This time around they weren't and didn't matter. Also if one can skip an oath, how come Kal wasn't able to. In WoK, when he is lying in that hollow he says how can't save his friends, essentially the oath from RoW.

    • @Otomoking
      @Otomoking 9 днів тому

      @@karohe Szeth near instantly made the oath and then abandoned it :/. Frankly I hadn't thought of that angle but it reminds me of words of radiance when Kaladin swears his oath and fights for Elhokar, how good that was. In general the power creep has made oaths feel a lot less important.
