what Can I DO!
Pastor Ken Bascom , asks "what Can I do!" what can the Christian do to turn their Faith from a noun into a verb . He looks at Matthew 25:40
"what you've done to the least of my brethren you have done to me "
"what you've done to the least of my brethren you have done to me "

I have had lots of comments and questions over the past year about what tools I use for planking. These inexpensive tools make life so much easier when it comes to working on your Model ship!

Well done. Thank you.
Great lesson on spiling
Great i am beginner …..a well done video. Looks like i am going to learn live with mistakes.

Where can I get a planking fan
shipsofscale.com/sosforums/threads/planking-fan.8497/ hope it helps
Thanks! Just starting out with boat modelling (on a tight budget) and your tips for tools are exactly what I needed.
does anyone know where to get those planking clamps
Hey! My grandpa was wondering where you got those clips from. Did u make them? Are they online somewhere?
Yes I did make them , you can purchase them from the dollar store . Please see my other video that explains how to make them . Thanks for the question .

@@kennethbascom2577 thanks for the quick response.
where did you get those clamps?
I've only watched 1 minute of video. Great idea using pencil calibers. You have been added to my watch l;ist. Looking forward to your videos
Great idea! What was the glue you used to glue the planks onto the frames.
I use both super glue when needing a fast set , and wood glue for long sets.
@@kennethbascom2577 normal, wood glue and many position super glue too. other not working.
It's whitewood planking, all this is unnecessary.
Perfect 👍 🤩. So this is my problem and why you deserve such great feedback. I am 38 my youth modelling exp started bright although young minded I put off what I didn’t wanna learn. Boat building here in E london is tight lipped rarely done and ridiculously expensive thanks to other countries we can get varied prices and I can get learning. So many things I am learning from great men like you showing us. The tight lipped may know but it never lasts 🕰️. So thank you for enabling me like others boilerdan etc ah this helps so much. How do you know the curve angle when making a plank bender?
Thank you for the great feedback @MrClarksonite As i developed the Plank bender I looked at the greatest curve on the ship plans and started there. Remember that planks like to be bent in one direction , so bending them to fit the bow or stern is difficult and has its limits. steaming the planks or soaking them before putting them in the bender helps them take the set. allowing them to dry will also make bending them the second time easier . I hope this helps . Thanks again for the feedback , it has helped me make the decision to continue on additional videos that I have had in the can . Look for them this next week. Have a Blessed day
@@kennethbascom2577 then I am glad I piped up. The craftsman in you is a good one we can learn a lot from. Like I said you are enabling us in a big way. :) I look forward to seeing more from your channel I am finding good tools I need this way and thank you that advice is noted. Bless you too 🙏🏻
can’t really make out what you are doing with the spring clip, perhaps when my clips arrive it will be easier to see
excellent
I didn’t understand the planking clamps when you made them. Now that I see them in action they are brilliant. Thanks for sharing that little trick.
I'm lost. Obviously this video is not meant for the beginner shipwright
You tapper all planks from bow to stern
Great video bro can you tell me the dimensions of the fuel cell I'm trying to do something similar
RCI 17-Gallon Aluminum Fuel Cell 30" L x 17" W x 7" H
Sorry, but to me this is just another in a long list confusing and unhelpful videos on this topic - the very thing you complain about. I have almost no idea what you’re doing here, and your explanations assume prior knowledge of terms and processes I don’t have.
Thank you for the constructive comment . I would suggest getting " The Neophyte Shipmodeller's JACKSTAY by George f Campbell" Im not sure it if its still in print but you can find copies . This recourse will help familiarize you with some of the terms and then when you watch this video you will have a little more understanding on whats going on . Please keep in mind , many factors go into model ship building . The biggest one I found difficult to over come was scale ( that's the size of the model) The smaller the scale the less the detail. this translates to having to come up with new techniques to get the same/ similar result. I hope this helps and Good luck on your build!
@@kennethbascom2577 Thanks. I hope I wasn’t too negative. It’s just hard to get started in this hobby.
@@macleadg Its my pleasure , anything I can do to help let me know .
This is not the way they use to plank a real ship, they used stealers.
Some clips are shaped right though, on the ones I bought the silver handles were just barely too short and didn't fit inside the black portion.
with those I bought two different sizes and fit the silver handles into the smaller black clips
Finally, I found the answer to how to straighten my hull planks up. Thank you
تحياتي من تطوان
Thats for.the ratguard
gostaria de comprar para montar ?
What is that material??
Do you have. Plans for a hull vise. The tool looks like one you have developed
How did you run the hose to fill up the tank? Anymore videos coming out of the build??
Suggestion? Pls use a tripod so the camera is locked down.
I love the video, I would like to know the exact measurements of the tank, the link you gave shows all the different fuel cell but not the one you specifically got so we can easily recreate what you did
It was some time ago , ill look it up and post the size .
@@kennethbascom2577 thank you
@@MonzoZG in a previous post i sent the link but here it is again , 17 GALLON/64L TOP-FEED ALUMINUM RACING/DRIFT FUEL CELL GAS TANK+CAP+LEVEL SENDER 64.5 Liter Full Aluminum Fuel Tank+Level Gauge Sender from speed daddy . the ONLY thing i would say is a problem is make sure to get a sock sponge for the pick up . if not when fuel gets low and you make a right had turn hard it will loose fuel pickup and bog out . Alos its not good for the engine . Good luck

Good stuff. This helps a lot.Obviously perfect is very difficult but good is achievable. I'll get onto it all the way from Adelaide South Australia!
Sorry, I just found your video on youtube about this...
In time... I asked because it has a side handle, isn't that right?
Hello... excuse-me, but where did you buy these clips? Tx.
Hi kenneth did you make them clips your self? And if so how? Did you remove part of another clip and insert in another clip? Would be great if you could upload a video if you did do that procedure. Thank you👍👍
Over thinking it!
Believe me, there is nothing better to build wooden model boats with individual planks as instant adhesive and activator spray . I've used ordinary glue and different fixing tools for years and switch from one day to the other when somebody - modelisto - introduced me to the state of the art method.
Type my full name in the UA-cam search box . It's the Jan, 2021 video. Still having problems with my UA-cam acct..... Please feel free to comment. Thank you and stay safe and be well my friend. 😷. 😷. 👍.
I agree this is the easiest approach and setting on the hull gives all the necessary twists and lateral bends. But why bother with the fan diagram. You only have to work out the taper for one and use it as a template, all the rest are the same. The Portsmouth School of Boatbuilding No 4 shed gave me a good working day's practical demonstrating this on a clinker hull.
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm at the planking stage of my Model Shipways, Glad Tidings. It'll be a while before I take that on.
Thanks Kenneth this video was very informative. I am ready to start planking on my Rattlesnake and have couple of questions, 1. how do know the distance to place the lines on the planking fan and how can I see ore of your past and future videos?
Very good video, very well explained!. Thank you.
Alternatively. All planks will be tapered the same amount....Lay the garboard, lay the wale...You can now calculate your taper from the widest to the forward bulkhead. Taper the strake and you have a template to mark all the rest! It really is that simple.
E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T Thank you, your way is the best.
God bless you too!
Similar to the "Spiling stick" used by Shipwrights. "Building the Wooden Fighting Ship" by Dodds &Moore" excellent read for sad men like me.
Electric steam steriliser. Great way to steam planks.
Is this model really difficult to build
