Water sticks to curves. Curves create drag. Good to control speed but slower than a flat surface.
I own a few of Geoffs hand shapes. You can see in this video the polish on his boards. They are glassed so durable and you could comb your hair the polish is so good. Its like a mirror. RiP Geoff!
Rest in Peace Legend.
Nothing faster than glassed in skegs. I think we're going backwards in surf design. Just like cars did.
What a great surfboard designer and shaper. A lifetime of experience lost now sadly. RIP man.
Thanks Geoff. Good health to you.
Hard to deny what he's saying.
This makes sense. Watched a Mctavish vid right before and I was like huh? Just received a board with super full rails so just trying to justify it any way I can before it hits water ha.
Thumb Tail no secret!
I have a mctavish.
Great bloke Bob meet him a few times back in my younger days when I was Involved in the industry..one of the best guys you ever meet been doing boards a long time
wow
surfed a Mc tavish in Mexico one of the best!
horrible tailpad put on
how do i make the carbon fibre board?
so lets see it surfed?
Bob at Sunset introducing something new ua-cam.com/video/NEciH3s70-o/v-deo.html
Was famous for introducing the short board when he was competing. Now he makes better money and has a reputation for shaping long boards. Wierd
What's the right dimensions for a classic longboard for mushy waves for a surfer 170 cm and 65 kg? Thanks
If you are a novice, 9' to 9'6 & 22.5 to 23" width should work. If you have good paddling and positioning in the water, 8'6 length & 22" width will give you much more responsiveness and fun
In 1977 when I was 18 years old I saw this guy in a surf movie he was so damn goddamn motherfuking hot my dick was hard for months
Love the dugga dugga dugga dugga dugga of the single fin...what a Legend..amazing shaper
What was the size
reza togubu evans 6’4”
Mr. McCoy, Your knowledge of water is proved here. You mentioned that a flat hard surfaces pushes water away, and a curved soft surface pulls water or energy. From the 1930's or 50's Sebastian inlet in Florida, East coast of USA has a permanent man made inlet. On the North side of the inlet was a vertical concrete panel seawall facing North near the shore and angling SE towards the ocean from approx. 90 feet from shore to 400 feet. The surfing wave there had exceptional tubes and reflective waves bounding from the sea wall increased (doubled) height of waves at first peak in most swell directions. About 2001 the jetty was repaired and they said it will not affected the wave. Batter pilings were installed North of the old concrete panels. This broke the wave energy so it doesn't bounce off the flat faced jetty now. The wave energy is broken by separate pilings. The inlet jetty and wave interaction and refraction has been destroyed. Plans are underway to restore the jetty and extensive study has been done on the project. Best regards Mr. McCoy. PS. Surfing an 8 foot Nugget for 5 years now exclusively.
Nice
I have a 6 four "Blair" who used to shape for dick Brewer .it has at least 45 to 48 volume in it .then I have a 6 four Spitfire with 41lt volume in it . the quad Blair is almost twice as fast! down the line .that's a huge difference in down the line speed. so when you say this board goes down the line really fast. it kind of threw me. I am going to set it up in the quad structure finally and try that. see if it speeds it up. but I only use this board for really Hollow waves that I actually don't want to go down the line really fast. I kind of want to go slow enough to be barreled
Thanks for the masterpiece, Geoff McCoy! Best surfboard I have ever ridden!
no thanks
I want this board
Want!
Nice advice Bob. What would you sell a 50 yo 6'3" 115kg lapsed intermediate whose 9' footers (one 3.5" thick) dont get me in soon enough to make it down the line. Is it time for a 10' board...
Where can I buy one in vicco?
We've been making Gull Wings too, with a difference... www.roystuart.biz/2014/10/revolutionary-fin-design.html
how much is a vanguard?
what size is that one
thanks for that explanation !
Love both the sweet and baked potato, I own both. I would get the baked potato if I could only get one. Does everything the sweet potato does but better. The take off on the baked potato is faster, it also turns better. Haven't tried it in big waves(have to go with short board for that). Overall the baked potato is the perfect east coast board.
nice board!
Can you talk about this board? www.firewiresurfboards.com/surfboards.php?boardid=profile_v1
Hi Jim-o apologies for the typos. What I mean is that I distribute the thickness evenly from nose to tail.
Hi Rob, Its a 6'0" x 3".....LONGBOARD or Baked Potato.....MMMMMMmmmm baked potato whit a BBQ nice piece of lamb and a COLDDDDDDDD friky beer. NEV is LOCO!! its the one
Lots of potatoes but great boards.
What were the dimensions of that big baked potato you showed at the end?
That's a surf board not a longboard.
fuck off kyle you damn kook
There were longboard surfboards LOOOOOONG before longboard skateboards
Woops censored again!! Hay Nev, remember me … it’s “Shane Egan”. So this is what happened to my original surfboard design concept. After I introduced the concept in 2007 I sent two over to Taj & Vance Burrow to test. Then after Vance told me you took photos and measurements of the design and as you appeared interested, I e-mailed you several times and sent messages via Vance to see if you wanted to produce a model. I never hear back from you- even after a recent note to you on your facebook.
Hmmmm!! I laid this concept with all its new principals to you guys on a silver platter. Next thing this Tomo is winning design awards and then a contract with you producing a model of my design concept. Wow what an interesting loop!! Check the original for those interested- Cropped Compact Surfboard Design Cheers!
where`d this happen
im riding one of these at the moment, amazing board.
Roy- no-offence, but what you said I can't understand at all? Can you-use common terms that make sense? As for -mr. MCCoy- great posts! It is true the foil nose/tail needs balance...
Hello Geoff, the most evenly distributed thickness is of course the parallel orofile which has no fore and aft taper, you shoukd try iot sometime, I've been using it for 17 years and it is great, it also lowers the centre of gravity of the surfer and improves flex.
