That was awesome. My brother just came back from Europe and whilst he was there he bought some chess pieces. Today he asked me if I could make him a cool chess board and until I watched this video I thought I had to cut individual squares which to me a newby to woodworking was daunting. Thanks for sharing this tip

This is awesome because of the fine tuning. What would be the dimensions of the wedges? 1½ to 1" wedge and 3" along the base? I have to try this, so simple.

And...use a brand new saw blade, the higher the tooth count the smoother the cut, and the height of the blade shouldn't be any more than 1/8" above the surface of your wood. Sharper tools are safer tools

Here is a great tip. I learned how, and made, a chessboard in 7th grade woodshop using this technique. The thing to remember is to leave the tablesaw fence set after you cut the strips. Let the strips dry and then crosscut using the same fence setup (which you haven't moved.) That way, you get perfect squares.

Your wedges solved an assembly problem I've been struggling with for weeks! Thank you. I assume that only putting a single screw in each outer wedge allows it to self align with the frame. Also by using each of the pair of wedges at each corner allows fine tuning of each corner by slackening one and tightening the other. Brilliant.

Thanks to The Woodguy George. I knew it could be done... somehow. I just tried this on 3/4 whiteoak. Replacing the top on a cafe table for my parents. My mom uses it as her bedside table. They wanted to replace the current plywood top. 24" wide. Worked like a charm! I also learned I need much better vacuum. Sawdust everywhere.

funny story, I have these wedges and have used them many times with perfect results. But, for whatever reason I was looking for an easier method. I bought a store bought metal jig that was so hard to setup. Yes, it eventually worked ok, but It took a frustratingly long time. Like the man said...sometimes the old way IS the BEST way. Thanks for the reminder Sir.

I know big companies live and die by the bottom line which includes many lawsuits some warranted and some not..but it still causes problems you reach for clamp no more large clamps .. lately I build stuff like clamps when I'm on a break waiting for new inspiration.
