Parallel Analog Summing EXPLAINED This episode, I will explain parallel analog summing. I don’t exactly know if this is a thing or not. I just came up with it based on the principle of parallel compression and analog summing. To put it simply, we will sum all individual tracks plus the busses of the same tracks as the parallel sums. This is on top of having parallel compression on aux busses be...

Mixing multi-track drums on an analogue console
I notice that you complete your mix and then take a stereo feed back to the DAW. do you get a dry mix at that point or is it as you have it on the board? I'm using Studio one 4 through a Windows based desktop right now and I can't seem to get that final mix to come through. Any suggestions?
Hi, where I can get the multitrack ?
I have a drum machine plugged in to my MTK 12 and am trying to record some of the EQ into the DAW.. is that not possible? I must be doing something wrong..
Can you output both A and B monitors simultaneously?
Can Windows 11 detect the driver for this device?
I have a question: This song has more tracks than your mixer has faders, so do you do this so that you can adjust the volume of each track despite the relatively few faders?
Hi, I just saw your video. Can't I connect Scarlett Solo Gen 3 directly to the monitor?
Just want to say thanks! I have the Signature 22 and I have learned a lot from watching you!. I have Pro tools but I am able to pick up many things from your Videos! Hope you keep posting videos for the Signature 22.
What software do use in that video?
During the courses, I felt like the bass drum needed a different groove. I felt the bass drum groove should’ve carried a bit more during the chorus
Great video, thank you! One question. In a live setup how would you use and route buses if you for example have only 4 mono channels left in the 22mtk? I use 8 channels for drums and 10 channels for synths, bass and guitars. I am investigating the best way to use buses on a live setup. Thank you!
hello, is it possible with a scenario like this? The mic goes to input channel 3 then the USB sends to the DAW with a compressor like the CLA76 then returns to the mixer with the USB return to channel 3. Then you can eq on the mixer and adjust the volume on the fader.
hello bro, I want to ask about this mixer. sorry if I use google thanslate because it is not my main language. can this be a mixer with a scenario like this? example: guitar enters channel 3 (DI Track) then USB sends to DAW. In the DAW, use an ampsim plugin like GuitarRig, then the signal is sent to the USB return on channel 3 again?
Thanks a lot i have his litte Sister 12 and it s à little hard to use it in the same process.
You are à génius man Nice vid Nice sound .i just buy à 12 mtk the same with low Chanels .thanks a lot rallye.
Hi, I just picked up a dynasty pro audio pmc2, which is a product similar to the big knob. I've got the same board, a signature 22 mtk. I wanted to get a controler, to be able to mute my monitors if I just only wanted to use headphones. I'm using all xlr cables. I've got two going from the xlr combo inputs that the pmc2 has, , to the main outs of the board, then I've got my speakers, which were previously plugged directly into the boards main outs, now going to the xlr outputs of the pmc 2. What's weird, is if I turn up channels that I've got mics connected to for example, I'm not hearing anything at all. I've got usb return on channels 21 and 22, and I'm hearing that, but that's the only thing I'm hearing. I use the Hauptwerk virtual pipe organ softwhere, and I've got that set to output to channels 17 and 18. when I put on usb return for those, or any other channel, I'm not hearing anything. there are buttons on the pmc 2, maybe I have something off, that should be on with them? Also, I'm thinking that upgrading to Mac OS sonoma, has some how broken support for the signature 22 mtk? Not totally sure about that though. Any advice would be appreciated.
what channel is the kick drum?
Where to find such multitracks for Logic for training?
You can sign up at the Produce Like A Pro Academy for free and you’ll get a starter kit with multi-tracks included. There are other sites as well like the Cambridge Music Technology site.
Hey, Where should I plug in an Mpc live so it plays through the monitors?
Hi there. You can plug the stereo output of your MPC to the 1/8” stereo input of the Big Knob. Another option is to plug the left and right channels to the TRS inputs of the Big Knob. I’m not sure what stereo outputs are available on the MPC but I’m pretty sure you can buy adapters or conversion cables for it so it can feed the stereo inputs of the Big Knob.
great vid. I want to do Dub style mixing on the 22MTK can I use all 5 Auxes with external fx? bypass the internal fx 4 and 5?
Yes you can use all 5 auxes.
The kick and bass lack impact. To my ears the guitars sound too dry and the keyboards and vocals could use some more reverb/delay. I love the song.
Thanks for the input.
Good job
Thanks!
She has a radio voice. Great job on the mix!
Thanks! Yes, she does have a radio voice indeed.
The revised mix is really an improvement! Great vocal sound, the guitars are nicely controlled.
Thank you. Glad you noticed the difference. This is how effective Warren’s lessons are. It always pays to have a professional guide you on your mix journey. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I don't like symbols. I know, what a thing to say. They sound like noise to me. Like Ss. We spend a considerable amount of time getting rid of ss and then there's that symbol. I may be a little weird on this one, but there it is. I like the song and I agree, the mix is flat, but good job.
That is the whole point, to have the mix critiqued and learn from these issues then grow from there. Thanks for your input and I totally agree. Sibilance can make the mix harsh as Warren here is pointing out.
Cymbals dude, cymbals! LOL. BTW really digging the revised mix!
@@baub58 Thanks! Glad you listened to the revised mix, with Warren's advise considered.
Lots of sibilance :( Updated: Didn't mean to sound negative.. I meant it sounds nice but there seemed to be a lot of sibilance introduced at the end.. Maybe caused by the limiting in the final stage?
Your comment is most welcome. Without another opinion, a mix won’t prosper. And yes, the limiter adds more high end as it squeezes down on the signal.
Mixing is all to a person preference and opinion. It sounds Great to me. ❤️
Thank you so much 😊 Yes, it all depends on each of our tastes.
🙂👍
Thanks!
That snare came back and slapped me in the face lol great work. It’s time I started to engage in producelikeapro competitions and stuff. Have to be open for critique to be able to learn and grow. Props Ionone it may only seem like a few years ago but you have helped and inspired loads since then keep up the good work. My Soundcraft USB died on me but I’m having good fun using a separate multi out interface at 96k instead of 48 and using the mixer in analogue ( a lot of cables).
Wow thanks for the kind words! Yes, you have to be open to criticism to make yourself grow. Thank you for being part of my journey as a mixing engineer here at Exile Mixes. Absolutely, you have to join the Produce Like A Pro Academy. Everyone in the community will have a shot at commenting on your mix before it gets to Feedback Friday. Sorry to hear about your Soundcraft USB dying on you but you have found a great workaround. It's part of the thing that we do--finding ways to make it work. Good luck and keep up the good work!
I bought a crippled(unbeknownst to me) Sig 22 MTK and had to do a bit of research on the circuitry. What I think I found was that the Ghost preamp is a log-amplifier. The op-amp' circuitry is wired as one; with a transistor in the feedback loop. I notice here that when you engage the stereo channels fed from the groups, the spectrum balance isn't the same. It seems the dynamic range isn't the same across the spectrum.
You have a point there. This is worth looking into. The change in stereo spectrum might also be due to some issues with the routing switches on each stereo channel. I had some stereo balance problems lately with the routing.
@@ExileMixesRight. I say that because the Eq were set at 0dB cut or boost.
Hello Sir! I just want to ask? Can I send the signal from my DAW (Reaper) back to the mixer so that my PA speakers will sound like my DAW as I play live? I am having a difficult time understanding its return function as of this moment. I hope you can reply to my query sir.
Hi there. Yes, but it all depends on the power of your CPU. It will affect the latency between the console and the DAW. Ideally you need a fast CPU so you can have the least latency between the console and the DAW.
@@ExileMixes thanks for the reply sir. Do you have an idea what should be the CPU or how fast should it be? Currently using a Ryzen 5 4600H. Would that be enough?
@@elijahnonan2934 I can't really tell with just the specs. A sure way to know is to go to your DAW's preferences and set the buffer size between 64 - 96 samples. This will give you a read out of how many milliseconds the round trip latency is. Go for less then 10 milliseconds.
@@ExileMixes okay sir. I'll check on that. Thank you so much for answering the questions
@@elijahnonan2934 Happy to help!
Gotta love that API EQ
Same here :)
You are the reason many people buy this mixer I hope you have or they offer an affiliate programme and we can see more mixes. Have you had any issues with usb interference or 8k / 16k spikes of (audible) noise? I’ve seen a couple of reports of this seems to be only if using usb
Thanks for the kind words. I don't have an affiliate link to the company. As for the distortion, I have experienced it in only one channel, channel 17 I think. But it was almost unnoticeable. You'll have to boost the signal with 60dB to be able to hear it. I used a spectrum analyzer at the time and saw the two spikes that you have mentioned. That was like 4 years ago. It never bothered me and I have forgotten about it. Maybe it was gone after I changed the PSU. I don't remember exactly.
Hi! Do you know if the Soundcraft mixer feeds EQ into the DAW or is it the other way around? If so, could there be a way in any DAW to route this differently? Such in the case where we want to do EQ feed into compression? Great content btw
Unfortunately no. The input signal from the preamp of the channel goes to the DAW post-gain but pre-EQ during recording. When mixing, in my experience I do compression within the DAW and EQ on the console.
tengo que probar esto, me gusta el glue de la consola y la limpieza ITB, gran video... me han contado que la consola se puede controlar con una aplicación desde android, tienes algo al respecto?
Hola! Sorry, I had to Google translate your question first before I understood it. Thank you for your kind comments. I appreciate it. Since this is an analog console there is not remote control for this on mobile devices.
Hi! Great vid! I bought this a few years ago, but now I have the issue with the master fader: only at -30db sound comes trough, only left monitor then it gets louder till you are at +0 / +5db. right monitor comes a bit through but is much quieter that left monitor. When the fader is all up (+10db), the sound comes through in left and right monitor on an equal level. You have any idea what is the issue with my master fader?
Hello there! Thanks for your kind comment. I have the same issue with the subgroup sends on the channels. It just might need cleaning with an electronic contact cleaning fluid. This fixed some of my issues after I sprayed the cleaner into the gaps of the faders and knobs. If the problem persists, the fader needs fixing or replacing.
Hello, tested in mine, ipad pro it works, first conect ipad and then start logic. iPadOS17
Wow thanks! They must have updated the firmware.
i've got an actual ghost! more or less what you'd do with the real one but more with the patchbay than reaching around the console itself
the ghost's preamps are basically transistors as their first stage into regular op amps, helps keep the cost down and gives a very good sound, yours certainly overdrive like mine so it sounds like they got it spot on with the original
Wow thanks for the confirmation! I was just guessing if this was the sound of a real Ghost. Now I can certainly say that this console has that Ghost sound.
Please oh please can I hire you to help me setup my MTK 22 to Logic via Zoom? You’re amazing
I’d love to. Let me get back to you tomorrow.
Me gusta tu canal lo descubri buscando summing analogico para la MTK 22 , que llevo dos años con ella en mi estudio y no he sumado aun con ella , solo la usaba como previo para los sintetizadores....Gracias amigo
Muchas gracias!
Full vudeo to banaya hi nhi
hey! did you manage to find a solution? I also have a Signature MTK (the 12 model, but it is the same in this respect I guess) and would order an IPad if this worked, but would buy it only for this purpose (using the Logic to provide AU effect USB sends during live performances). Did you find any workaround for this? great video btw, congrats!
Hi there. I didn’t find a solution so I discontinued my Logic Pro for iPad subscription.
@@ExileMixes thank you very much for your response! Until there is a solution, I neither will switch to this route...
Man I have a problem with my soundcraft mtk 22. When I record the mix back to the daw it’s just way too quiet. -28db. Can you help me? Many thanks
Hey man, here are a couple of work-arounds to your problem. It’s a video I did about gain staging with the Sig 22 MTK. ua-cam.com/video/UXG7DdC7SrM/v-deo.htmlsi=BuFVoPCKL2nS1yAO
If you’re feeling more adventurous with cables and physical outputs, you can do it this way. This is a video I made a few months ago about Soundcraft’s Ghost preamps. The consensus was a bit controversial but the end result is another solution to your problem. ua-cam.com/video/Kk8-ZJhAL8k/v-deo.htmlsi=Wix9DCWGzcxBdliD
Thank you so much. In the end I’ve figured it out what the problem is. I have to send all the channels to group 1-2 or 3-4 and increase the volume on faders. Then send the group to the master channel and record it. If I send all the channels straight to the master fader it will be a very quiet recording. Greetings from Italy. Thank you so much for your videos. They are helping me a lot to understand the mtk 22. Cheers
And actually I have another problem but I think is a mixer problem. I have to keep the master fader all the way up +10 db to keep the monitor balanced. As soon as I take the master fader down, the sounds it get louder on the left Monitor and quite on the right monitor. It’s not a cable issue because it works fine on usb audio interface. Do I need to repair the console?
@@stevemanhattan Yes, I think your master bus has some connection problem but before you open it up for repair, just take a can of contact cleaner (the one used for electronics and mobile phone repair) and with the fine nozzle, spray it on the gaps in the switches and into the fader tracks. This will dissolve the gunk that has accumulated in the contact points. If that doesn't fix it, you can have the mixer checked.
Hi Ionone, I might have missed it but you don’t send the aux buss of the parallel compression into the mixer for physical summing? The DRUM crush that we briefly see in your daw. Maybe I am unclear 😊
Oh I just discovered that I missed showing it on screen. Thank you for pointing it out. I sent the 3 aux busses to channel 15/16. I also missed showing where I sent the drum bus. I sent that to 21/22 along with the overheads BUT the mix sounded wooly so I tried again and sent it to 15/16 along with the kick bus and aux busses. That is what you are hearing on the final mix. Apologies. These edits can get complicated usually and I miss showing things clearly🙏🏻.
@@ExileMixesok makes sense thanks 👍
Dude, you’re awesome! I’m going to try out this technique for my next project. “Modern music is the sound of compression.” I never thought about it, but you’re so right. Keep the videos comin’. Cheers, man!
Wow thanks! Enjoy your next mixing project. Cheers!
Its close to an audio interface 😂😂
The active ‘studio’ models are actually interfaces. Only this passive one is a simple monitor controller.
Great demo does it got talk back button
Thanks! No, it doesn’t have a talkback button.
Does the audio go in to the DAW pre fader or post?
The audio from the XLR goes to the DAW post gain, pre EQ, pre fader during recording.
You should aggregate and use the clock of focusrite as master. You will hear better sound in same console
Oh wow! That’s new to me. Thanks for suggesting it. I will definitely try this. 🙏🏻
🙂👍
Thanks 🙏🏻
