TO HOT BLOCK VENEER Restoration, water damage.
Here we have a very smart bird's eye maple table that has suffered from extreme water damage. Its veneers need to be glued back down before stain removal and repolishing. The hot blocking technique utilises the unique property of hide glue, which can be warmed and reset. The introduction of steam before the hot blocks are placed softens, moistens, and cleans the area where the veneers have lifted. The MDF blocks have been heated to above 60°C this temp will soften, and re-adhere the existing original hide glue and new hide glue which might have started to gel. Left overnight the excess glue is then removed.
