Here is a video of my trio at Cadenza International Music Summer Course (at Purcell School) performing Beethoven’s Piano Trio in C minor in the chamber music concert. It was difficult but fun to learn the piano part for this in a 2 day notice. Cool experience, this was my 2nd time performing chamber music and I really enjoyed it. A very solid performance. What Mozart concertos are you choosing to form the foundation of your concert skill development?
I am currently tackling Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 20 in D Minor
Michael for this piece I would suggest exploring a greater range of dynamic modulation in the early voicing of the main themes. I feel like there is so much focus on the codas in the Chopin ballades that it distracts from the fact that what defines an interpretation is how the repeated themes are articulated and voiced differently as they re-appear. Really great technical execution.
I really agree, thank you for sharing your perspective!
Michael I would suggest listening to the Bonyage and Giulini recordings of Rigoletto to guide your approach to how to articulate the voice of the Duke. When Liszt composed the adaptation, it was decades before Caruso had changed the way the opera was actually sung. But if the artistic idea is to play the piece as you would conduct and sing it, I would slow down into some of the vocal climaxes after the first minute. By highlighting and even exaggerating that voice you underscore that he is the only character who is totally insincere.
Thank you! I’ll make sure to have a look.
What lovely playing ❤ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.❤
Michael I would suggest experimenting with more rubato around the changes in dynamic. As an execution of the skill Chopin wrote the etude to improve, the performance was excellent, but I think there is more art you could bring out.
I appreciate the direct constructive criticism! Thank you very much, I will definitely consider that
@@michaeltaomusic As a baseline, I always listen to the Pollini recordings and explore what changes could be made to enhance the beauty or emotional impact of the work. How many of the etudes have you worked on to the point that you are comfortable performing them?
@@sunareekaewnat8967 perhaps about a third of them
Great performance and perfection
Thank you for your kind words!
This is absolutely mesmerising, i’m playing this Etude rn and it’s just PERFECT. Are you planning to do concerts in France?
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Have fun with the Ètude! I am just about to start university soon but I hope to come and perform in France one day!
Bravo 👏👏🏼👏🏾
Thank you!!!🙏🏻
Great performance! Very clear.
Thanks a lot! :)
He plays it robustly which gives it another sound completely. Whether that sound is good or not is subjective in my opinion.
Stunning performance!
Many thanks. Thanks for watching!
Ta f**k is with you people attaching codenames to those etudes? Wasn't certainly Chopin's idea.
My mother alwats played this beautiful piece. How lovely to hear it again, and played so exquisitely well. Blessings! 🌎🎹🌏
Many thanks! I’m happy I can bring back such beautiful memories of yours 🦋😊
@@michaeltaomusic And i am happy to give you credit for you enchanting piano play 🎹🌞🌿

Fantastic!👏👏
Thank you! 😃
This is the best video I will see all week for sure. Love your playing man
Haha I appreciate that man! You made my day! Feel free to subscribe for more :)
@@michaeltaomusic I Sure am subscribed. you bet <3
Amazing, that's all I have to say.
Thank you so much!
audacious encore choice. the most bare and transparent etude. nice
Haha thanks it was a fun choice
This is so so impressive and stunning. I am immersed in beauty and fascination! Love it! Blessings!🎹🦋🎹 💎💜
Thank you very much, you went from my Instagram page to my UA-cam haha, I hope you can come and listen live one day 😊🎵
@@michaeltaomusic That would be something...My mother was a classical pianist, I listen to classical piano every day and a close friend of mine on social media is the Australian composer Phillip Wilcher. I can recommend his pieces, mostly for piano or piano and cello. He has a youtube channel. Be Well !!🎹🦋
@@woodanemone09 That is amazing, I will definitely have a look! Take care and best wishes 🎵😊
I just put it at 0.75 speed and it sounds perfect👌
The natural flow and phrasing of the music is wonderful, without any gimmicks. And the keystroke form and fingering are beautiful. The independence of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th fingers supports the technique. There is a remarkable improvement from the Chopin performance from a year ago. I'm sure there will be various opinions and impressions, but please continue to evolve like this. I'm rooting for you. By the way, I am a person who has studied music professionally.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt comment, it means a lot to me, especially to hear it from someone who has studied music professionally.
Wonderful! Beautiful rubato.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your words
Wonderful performance! On par with the 1969 performance by John Browning 🎹!!
Just had a listen to his recording, incredibly fluid and clean playing, thank you for sharing!
@@michaeltaomusic Your welcome Michael!!
It’s simply too fast.
하지만 안틀렸쥬?
agreed 👍
i dont think its too fast, it does sound more like an actual waterfall and i like it that way imo
@@pera7947 틀렸어요
😂👏bravo tao
😂😂 cheers peng
Well played! I would try to play slower, aim for accuracy. You had couple of mistakes, not too important but still take into considerations.
Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it 😊
The closest composer to Chopin in the 20th century would be Scriabin
Nah man. Their style is completely different. Scriabin's (at least early-mid) is based on complex harmonies with lots of sounds and insane climaxes. Chopin is quite an opposite - infinity brilliant melodies and soul breaking drama in his codas. If we're talking closest to Chopin it's definitely Moskowski (1854-1925).
@@podpivasniki322 Disagree. Scriabin's use of structure and form greatly resembles Chopin's and Chopin paved the way for harmony based on motivic cells and pitch classes, which Scriabin ran with. There are brilliant melodies in Scriabin and complex harmonies in Chopin, although he doesn't use quite as many extensions as Scriabin (probably picked up from impressionist composers).
Incredible performance.
Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
jjang ggae?
?
very nice performance. i usually dislike really fast versions of this piece, but you brought out the melody without sounding like you "had to", if that makes any sense. only criticism i would have is that a couple arpeggios in the first half were uneven, perhaps heavy on the thumb. but you really nailed it, amazing performance.
Thank you for your kind words, and I really appreciate the constructive criticism. Yes, I agree, finger evenness in this piece is quite difficult and is something I’m working on. I’d love to hear your thoughts about my performance of Chopin’s 2nd Piano Concerto before I played this encore :) It is the previous video on my channel.
Great !! Did you use the pedal(u.c) when you playing in A minor arpeggio?
Yes I did 😊
This sounds so beautiful even though it's very fast. I loved this performance, thank you maestro.
I’m honoured, thank you for your lovely comment 🙏🏻
Woah! this is the fastest recording of this etude I've seen! You perfected the technique.
Yes I did go faster than my usual speed… maybe because of the adrenaline. Thank you! 😊
There is no music!
Thank you! I appreciate that.
?
@@frédéricchopin.9479 😂
What does this mean?
You could write more exactly. Where is no music? In that composition or in his playing? Is that critic to Chopin maestro?😅
Hahaha, I would say it's too fast, but I can't talk since I play it at this tempo sometimes;) Well done!
Thanks for your feedback! Yes I agree haha, lots of adrenaline in the moment 😂
