What is the difficulty of your world? Fishing is indeed very helpful for progression and for making potions, you also need herbs for it too. You can use planter boxes bought from the Dryad to make platforms as they function the same as with wooden platforms. Now to get started with fishing you need baits, you can start with worms. Worms can be caught with the Bug Net bought from the merchant, Worms can be found in surface rocks, These so called rocks looks like cobblestone but they're not block shaped and they sometimes drop worms. You can also combine the worms with fallen stars to make Enchanted Nightworm to get more Fishing Power. Unfortunately I have to say this Master Bait is the best bait as it has the highest percentage bait which means you can get quicker fish. Fishing for the Angler is also required to make a Cellphone in the game needing Sextant, Weather Radio and Fishing Pocket guide. You can use the planter boxes to plant the seeds that you get from the herbs. Potions are veryhelpful on fights, caving, or bossfights so you'll be required to make those soon. Since you have beaten Skeletron, try to find Cobalt Shield and Muramasa. Muramasa is one of the recipes on making the Night's Edge which is crafted on a Demon Altar while the Cobalt Shield makes you immune on knockbacks. If you want to fight Skeletron again, use Clothier Voodoo Doll and kill the Clothier at night to summon Skeletron again. Before you go to Hardmode, bomb the edges of your evil biomes to seperate it. Evil biomes on hardmode spreads so you need to bomb the edges in order to stop it from spreading in your world, or you could just bomb the entire evil biome but the game would spawn another evil biome after getting to Hardmode. Terraspark Boots and Cellphone are both Pre Hardmode so you can craft it without getting to Hardmode yet. Seeing that you're new to the game, there's a boss called Deerclops. Both Deerclops and Queen Bee aren't Required Bosses but they help you in Progression and Fights. Deerclops have a chance of spawning randomly on a Blizzard at Midnight. Deerclops doesn't despawn when you die but it does when you log out from your world. Deerclops can also be summoned manually by using Deer Thing. That's all that I can give you for now as your still on Pre Hardmode and I dont want to spoil anything as that would ruin the FUN. Edit:The doll has a 1/300 (0.33%) chance to drop from Angry Bones or Dark Casters in the Dungeon.

try mining down next to the ocean on jungle side you'll find shimmer and new aether biom with new buffs (try throwing life crystal to the shiny liquid there)

mate good work but you may want to use some summonig wepons for free extra damage another tip is fishing use that as much as you can with angler you unlock some new potions and make plantera boxes (you can buy it from dryad ) as well you can make some upgraded boots ( you need tinkerer's workshop) and rocket boots to create spectre boots than you combine that with aglet and anklet of the wind and sorry for my english . enjoyed the video and good luck
