How to improve focus and timing on the tennis court
Using a very small head racket can enhance focus and hand-eye coordination in several ways:
1. **Smaller Sweet Spot**: A small-headed racket has a reduced sweet spot, which requires you to make more precise contact with the ball. This demands greater concentration and focus on each shot, as there's less room for error.
2. **Improved Precision**: Because the racket's head is smaller, you need to be more accurate with your swings. This encourages you to watch the ball more closely and improve your stroke mechanics, ultimately refining your hand-eye coordination.
3. **Enhanced Feedback**: A small-headed racket provides more direct feedback on off-center hits, making it easier to feel and correct mistakes. This immediate feedback loop helps in developing better touch and feel for the ball.
4. **Increased Mental Engagement**: Knowing that a small head racket is less forgiving pushes you to stay mentally engaged throughout your practice or match. It forces you to maintain a high level of focus on each shot to ensure proper execution.
Using a small head racket as a training tool can, therefore, be a way to develop better overall control, precision, and concentration.

    You're not even going to credit the AP Belt for athletic foundation positioning? IMG's Pat Dougherty will not be too happy with you. You should least give him credit and the Bolletieri/IMG Academy for inventing the concepts first.

    Interesting drill. Makes the player rotate their hips but quickly stop their body from rotating to create a whip like snap. The only problem is this drill doesn’t teach weight transfer. Important to have active hips but also a weight transfer from back to front foot.

    • @jamesroberts9479
      @jamesroberts9479 4 місяці тому

      Depends, if you primarily hit open stance which is the modern game, it’s more a rotational transfer verses linear (back foot to front front)

    • @RooCTVB
      @RooCTVB 4 місяці тому

      @@jamesroberts9479 I think in today’s world of tennis more people are playing with grips closer to western rather than eastern on the forehand side. With that, more players lean back as they play. I would still argue that a proper hip rotation would lead to the weight transferring onto the opposite foot

    • @RooCTVB
      @RooCTVB 4 місяці тому

      Either way, it’s an interesting drill because as you said, it calls for a more horizontal weight transfer (away from the target) as opposed to a linear transfer (towards the target).

      That’s a counter balance for when her shoulders rotate. I doubt she even realizes she is doing it. It’s a great drill for anyone who leans backwards when hitting. One literally can’t do that with this drill or they will fall down.
