Don't Move To Pensacola Before Hearing This [Pensacola Locals Tell All] Jaime Walker | Phil Baker
Most of our videos here on the Living In Pensacola channel tell you about the great things in Pensacola - the wonderful sights, places to visit, the restaurants, museums, of course the beaches - all the fun things to see and do. But sometimes you want the hard truth about living here - is there a downside? Pensacola Florida is a lovely place to live and visit, but yes, there are 7 warnings about Pensacola to be aware of!
There are 7 warnings about Pensacola FL that you need to know about (actually 8 because we included a bonus warning!).
First of all, you need to know about the heat and humidity. Pensacola gets HOT in the summer, and the humidity stays really high. Sometimes when you walk out of your home into the hot summer air, it's an instant sweat bomb!
Next, we'll tell you about the effects of tourism on the area. Especially during the summer months (when the beaches are at their peak capacity), sometimes things around here get crowded. Traffic may be slow, restaurants more crowded, hotel rooms at a premium, but it's the price you pay for vacationing or living at such a beautiful location!
Another downside to living in a tourist-centric location is a limited job market. Of course, the PCS to Pensacola and healthcare markets are strong, but there is not much manufacturing or industrial commerce in the area, so that is definitely a limiting factor.
Just about every place on earth has the potential for catastrophic natural disasters - there's tornado alley which runs across states in the midwest, there's the potential for earthquakes on the west coast, and flooding from torrential rain has become an issue. Our unique potential, however, is for the occasional hurricane! The last really strong hurricane we had was Sally about 4 years ago. As long as you know how to prepare, and know when to evacuate, then hurricanes are manageable.
Ah-choo! Hang around people in this area, and you'll hear that sound a lot! There are many allergens floating around in the Pensacola FL area - trees, grasses, flowers, weeds - and depending on the time of year, there could be a LOT of allergens in the air!
There are definitely a few critters that you need to be aware of and avoid - some unique to an area like Pensacola - alligators, sharks, jellyfish - and some that, while not unique, proliferate here because of the climate, like cockroaches, spiders, and ants. Find out how to keep these under control!
Florida is the number one state in a lot of areas, but here is one that we're not really happy about - the cost of insurance. Due to the proliferation of storms, and the number of accidents, Florida, including the Pensacola area, has very high costs for homeowners and automobile insurance. Hopefully that will be addressed soon, and costs can become more manageable.
And our bonus section talks about the most requested subject in our Facebook group - "Welcome To Pace Florida" - traffic! (important to pensacola real estate professionals).
If you’re thinking about moving to Pensacola Florida or any of the surrounding areas, be sure to give us a call, shoot us a text, send us an email, or schedule a Zoom. We’d love to help you make a smooth move to Pensacola Florida!

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We understand that with growth comes challenges. Recent crime statistics actually show a downward trend in Pensacola, with both violent and property crime rates decreasing compared to previous years. It's always good to stay informed and aware, but the idea that crime is spiraling out of control in Pensacola doesn't align with the available statistics. There are some legitimate concerns about overdevelopment and pollution, but many local programs are working hard to protect and restore our beautiful area. We hope local leadership continues working on addressing these concerns as more people discover all the things that make this place special. 😊

    I live just a few blocks from Floridatown Park. I try to go to thers to walk or jog a couple of times a week on the track. In fact I'll be going there tomorrow to get some laps in. The tree behind you is a popular attraction to locals. I like that place...with the only negative aspect of Floridatown Park is NAAAAASSSSSTEEEE. Ivan did considerable damage in September of 2004 to Andrew Jackson estates, but fortunately they were able to recover. The only thing I do NOT like about Pace is the traffic. Period. I used to work for the Sheriff's Office, and for six years I was assigned to the Pace District. Traffic was probably less than 50% of what it is today. Alyssa's is a very nice place to go. I thought this was going to be a video about the actual SUBURBS OF PENSACOLA... not the TOWNS NEAR PENSACOLA... Brent, Bellview, Ferry Pass, Ensley, Beulah... those are actual suburbs just outside Pensacola City limits, are not incorporated towns of their own and are actual suburbs of Pensacola. Everything in this video are incorporated towns near Pensacola... certainly they are OPTIONS TO LIVE and are NEAR Pensacola, but they're not suburbs of Pensacola. The video is accurate and factual on each of these towns, and many people that live in them certainly visit and/or work in Pensacola, but I think the title of the video is a tad misleading... especially when it comes to Navarre... which, if we're going by the definition of "suburbs" I would consider a Navarre a "suburb" of Ft Walton rather than Pensacola.

      @@jeltoninc.8542 You're right-insurance costs have gone up in recent years, and that's definitely something buyers think about. But there are a few other things that might be keeping homes on the market a bit longer. Even though interest rates have been high, they've started to come down recently, which should help bring more buyers back into play. Also, with more homes available, buyers have more options, so it can take a little longer to make a decision. If this home has been listed since the start of the year, it might just need a fresh strategy to attract the right buyer. @@troyharrison7822 I may have used the wrong term in the video. The Blue Angels are famous, not infamous, for their incredible aerial demonstrations and precision flying. They represent the skill and professionalism of both the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. As their home base is here in Pensacola, the 'Cradle of Naval Aviation,' they hold a special place in our hearts. Their performances not only showcase their expertise but also bring pride and inspiration to our community.

    Why did Milton close the Moors Golf Course, home of the Sr PGA tour Emerald Coast Classic? That was a great course to play when on vacation.

    • @LivingInPensacolaGroup
      @LivingInPensacolaGroup 2 місяці тому

      @@timnew7662 it was a beautiful course but closed mainly because of financial issues. They had trouble keeping membership numbers up and revenue was down, which made it hard to maintain the course. The competitive market for golf courses and the impact of the 2008 financial crisis didn't help either. Even though it had a great history, including hosting the Senior PGA Emerald Coast Classic, the club just couldn't keep things going.

    We're going to move to a PCola suburb & are considering Cantonment. You mentioned industry & I know there's a paper mill, which typically has an odor. How much of an impact do you think the mill has on quality of life in the area?

    • @LivingInPensacolaGroup
      @LivingInPensacolaGroup 2 місяці тому

      Hi @@cindyonyoutube! Thanks for your comment. It's great to hear that you're considering a move to the Pensacola area. Cantonment does have a paper mill, and you're right-it can occasionally produce an odor. However, the impact on daily life varies depending on the wind direction and proximity to the mill. Many residents find that the benefits of living in Cantonment outweigh this occasional inconvenience. The area offers a great sense of community, excellent schools, and more affordable housing compared to some other Pensacola suburbs. Plus, it's close to beautiful outdoor recreational activities, perfect for families and nature lovers. Additionally, Cantonment is only a short drive away from downtown Pensacola, providing easy access to the city's amenities while maintaining a quieter, suburban feel. I recommend visiting the area at different times to get a better sense of what to expect. @LivingInPensacolaGroup Sisters-in-law lived on Soundside Dr in Gulf Breeze. We would visit on spring break or Xmas. We drove through Brewton and Milton on those trips. This started in 1998. LSS When an opportunity to move came, we moved first to Panama City two years later to Tallahassee for four years, then to Milton so she could manage and train five extended care facilities. Luckily, we found an exceptional house with an excellent landlord, and unless something of a catastrophic nature happens, this is the house we'll keep as long as absolutely possible. The area is being OVER DEVELOPED to keep up. More infrastructure and traffic planning should come first before the flood of new housing. It has changed so much since 1998.

      @@dlbracer56 yes! Since we moved here in 1998, we totally get that. It's like a completely different place! We kind of ended up here the same way, we would vacation to Gulf shores and Panama City and fell in love with this area. It would be nice to see more infrastructure happening in the area to keep up with the amount of people moving here.
