Make it Monday: Holiday Ornament 2024
We’ll create a paper pieced/mixed media ornament on a wood base.
Items Needed:
3-3/4” x 3-3/4” Round wood ornament
Holiday Scrapbook paper or old holiday cards
(see Tips below for sizes)
4” x 4” scrapbook paper for the back of the ornament
Paper Trimmer
Matte Mod Podge
Flat paint brush or small foam brush
Sandpaper 220 grit (or higher) or Emery board
Rubber stamps (optional)
Archival ink pads (optional)
Sponge Dauber or make-up sponge
Die cut embellishments or small artificial greenery
White craft glue
Stamped/printed words/sayings or sticker words
White acrylic paint
Round paint brush
Glitter Glue
Self-adhesive gems
Foam mounting tape
10” piece of ribbon ¼ wide
Scissors
Tweezers (optional)
Tips:
• For the front of the ornament I work in the Rule of Thirds. Placing pieces so they cover the ornament in thirds (EG. Place the left piece 2/3rds of the way across the ornament and place the 3 right side pieces each covering 1/3 of that side). The configurations can be done in many ways, just keep the Rule of Thirds in mind.
• Choose papers that are at least a medium paper weight. I would not recommend wrapping paper as it is too thin and may bubble up.
• Sizes of paper for covering the front. Larger pieces for a vertical layout are approx.
2-1/4” x 4”, for a horizontal layout 1-3/4” x 4”. Side pieces are approx. 1-1/4” wide x
2” - 2-1/4” long. Sizes will really depend on the layout you choose to do.
• When placing pieces down on the surface butt them up against each other but don’t overlap them.
• I did not seal the surface of my ornament. It can be sealed by putting a layer of Mod Podge over the top of the papers, after the stamping is complete. Let it dry thoroughly and then embellish with the greenery.
Have fun and Happy Holidays!

Very nice tutorial.
I have tons of acrylic beads..need glass ones!. Are the spacer beads glass too?
Yes, all glass beads were used.
I'm definitely going to try this! I have all the supplies I need! Thanks so much for this tutorial! 💖
An excellent tutorial!!
I have question, how much of the wire do you measure out for the average stake ? Thank you so much for the tutorial, I enjoyed it very much !
I read in a comment below that 18 inches is what what we should try!
Going to have a yard sale tomorrow going to make some to put in my plants o sell . Thank you for sharing this
I love these little guys. More like this please. 😊
Just found this video. These are adorable. I have all the supplies. I think i might make them for small Mother's Day gifts. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome, glad you liked them.
what a cool idea! I do this with glass beads and small crystals to hang in my windows, I thread them onto tiger tail or nylon fishing line. Am going to try this, thanks for the share
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed the craft.
So cute
You are an excellent teacher! Such lovely stakes. Do you think that 14 gauge wire would be too heavy for indoor plant stakes?
Depends on if the wire will fit through the beads. I think it will work, but it might be harder to bend.
What a cool idea, they'll look beautiful ❤️.
Thank you! 😊
Thank you for this! They are lovely and your instruction is so helpful and detailed. Christmas presents!
You are so welcome!
'Promo sm' 😒
Hi I scribble with felt tips on the plastic, spritz well with water, turn plastic quickly over on to the paper. Squish on the paper, pick paper up to allow runs. Brilliant results.
Me encantó esa técnica, gracias 🙋🇻🇪👍
What a great idea! I’m going to make some for my daughter for er garden and indoor plants. A nice little Xmas gift.💕❤️🐶🐶🇬🇧👍
Wonderful!
The content was good but the filming was not good!
Great gift ideas
I have watched several videos to learn how to do this and you are by far the best teacher. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent.
Thank You so much. We are glad you appreciate the video.
Love!!!!!!!❤ thank u
You are so welcome!
Thanks for sharing. This was so interesting. I think I will try to make some garden stakes. Thank you.❤
Where do you buy the beads and wire from?
A general craft store such as Micheals, JoAnns or Hobby Lobby should have everything you need.
I just can't seem to find the wire- specifically that blue wire. I'll have to start searching Amazon.
Love these garden stakes. They are so pretty.❤
Thank You
Yes love these always wanted to make some , luv them can't wait thanks 4 sharing , 😊😊😊😊kim
Very cool thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Imagine stepping on it by accident
How long is that wire on the state you're starting with
The list of supplies in the description states the wire size and length.
Thank you for such a great video. I just bought some wire and beads! 🌸
You're Welcome, glad you enjoyed it.
New sub here from Spokane Valley Wa, how nice to add with my resin sun catchers, and wind chimes
New Sub. I have made many of these, but I so appreciate you teaching me how to so different tops. I wish I had known these tips a long time ago. So happy I found you. Thanks, Barb in Oklahoma.
Love this video, it's a great idea! I looked in the comments to see if I could find anything about how long the wire is that you start the project with, but I didn't find anything. I can just guess but if you have a standard length you use I would like to know. Thanks for the great idea!!!
We started with an 18" piece of wire.
These are too adorable! I have everything in my craft room. Can't wait to get started!
What do you seal it with?
Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge with the blue label.
Please tell us the size of the wire and beads. These are so doggone pretty!! And they look like I could make them too :)
16 to 20 gauge wire ,,,,
Donna dewberry
Thanks for this video
It's very nice and beautiful
How long is your wire to start?
18"
What kind of wire did you use?
Enjoyed watching your tutorial on the garden stakes. I’m going to try to make some this weekend.
Hint: paint inside top of pot down about two inches where it would show above the dirt line. Looks like far too many wrinkles.
Patioelf…
Too many wrinkles takes away from the look. Pressing a piece of Saran Wrap over the the attached napkin works well to lessen the wrinkles.
Wow
Why would you overlap?
I agree. I’ve not seen that before.
Pᵣₒmₒˢᵐ 🔥
I love this tutorial it helped me make one AWEONE VIDEO
Thank You
Don't know what is going on, but can't see the video at all 😔😔
Thank You
Awesome video!
Thanks!
