I totally get making this video for entertainment purposes, but I think comparing any of the decks from the show or manga to the irl game is pointless. They're obviously going to be imbalanced as hell and not actually be playable.

Is he really a good player? Seems to me he's only good because he cheats. Not for nothing, but "the heart of the cards" allowing him to draw any card he needs at any time instead of relying on randomness is, by every definition and every interpretation, cheating. Play a round against any player with Yugi's deck and the ability to search their deck and draw what they need any time they want, and I guarantee they'll beat you handily. In fact, I'd argue he must be a subpar duelist at best, given the way he struggles in spite of his ability to cheat.

To be fair, the Millennium Puzzle of Unity seems to have the ability to manipulate the odds of allies and friends to being in the right place/getting a perfect chance to help Yugi and Yami Yugi in times when they need help. This is significant because we have been shown that some cards have souls or partially contain the soul of their original owner. This ability tends to make the normally inconsistent decks brokenly powerful.

I forgot that Arkana actually trimmed the edges of his Dark Magicians so he could false cut to them. Which is funny, because if he had actually been a good magician, there would have been a thousand non-destructive ways he could have stacked his deck.

His deck only works because of the Millennium Puzzle. Basically for those who don’t know, the MP can tell who’s winning a match and knows every card in the game, what they do, and where they are. If it senses its user is losing it will give it a card to change the tides. The more desperate the situation, the stronger counter you draw. Basically the Puzzle rigs RNG in its user favour whenever they are put on the back foot. So basically it’s impossible to win against anyone using the puzzle unless there’s literally no guarantied win con. Basically you need to start on equal footing, and draw a card that counters literally anything Yugi can throw at you in one go. If you can’t do that, then you just lose, as winning doesn’t become a possibility, but only a matter of time.

I think the only thing we should be doing is asking ourselves what is the minimum standard deck that can beat every opponent Yugi faces, and then compare his deck to that.

i kinda laughed when you said "Destroys both field spells" xD For at LEAST a decade if you activated a field spell card, your opponent's field spell card would be destroyed :D there could only be 1 field spell on the field.

To be honest, the duelist kingdom arc made every single character of that show look like they were absolutely trash at deck building. Like literally every single single person‘s deck should’ve just been all of the best spell cards in the game and then three-ofs of all of the best high-level monsters they could their hands on. When there are no tributes in this game, why are you including cards like fucking Celtic guardian in your deck?

It's only useless if you aren't Yugi. If Kaiba tried using any of these decks against Yugi, he'd still lose because he doesn't have the heart of the cards and wouldn't be able to pull out the exact card he needs.

Burning Land does nuke active field spells when played, but it's also a consistent 500LP burn each turn to the active player, so if you manage to keep an LP advantage higher than 500LP you can eventually burn away a lot of their life until you get the chance to hit them direct with monsters.

Hey im not a big fan of the series but i find your breakdown and explanations interesting. I was hoping to pitch in a series idea where you could probably walkthrough cool or well known irl matches, tournament matches maybe. Id really like to watch these vids out there but i dont understand what’s going on and why big plays are big plays. Hope u think these seems entertaining enough to think about.

Obelisk the tourmentor effect in the animé as nothing to do with the attack points going to infinity, we just assume it goes to infinity since we assume we see the attack points goes to infinity, but the display was the effect power going to infinity to destroy all monster in opponent field and deal 4,000 effect damage but in battle city since the effect damage of 4,000 looks like an attack it count as battle damage. Prove of this new card that is called that same move soul energy max, it says tributed 2 monster except obelisk the tourmentor to destroy all monster in the opponent field, and deal 4,000 effect damage, and then obleisk can still attack dirrectly after, in the animé they say obelisk gain infinite power, they do not say obelisk gain infinite attack point. But what about the video game, their is an option to make obelisk 99999999 attack point, the people that created the game missrepesented what happen in the animé

As for the Magnet Warriors this is how I'd fix those: Alpha Retrain. When this card is Normal or Special Summoned you can add 1 "Beta the Magnet Warrior" from your deck to your hand. While you control a face up "Gamma the Magnet Warrior" you can Special Summon this card from your hand. Beta Retrain. When this card is Normal or Special Summoned you can add 1 "Gamma the Magnet Warrior" from your deck to your hand. While you control a face up "Alpha the Magnet Warrior" you can Special Summon this card from your hand. Gamma Retrain. When this card is Normal or Special Summoned you can add 1 "Alpha the Magnet Warrior" from your deck to your hand. While you control a face up "Beta the Magnet Warrior" you can Special Summon this card from your hand. Valkyrion Retrain. Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must first be Special Summoned by tributing 1 "Alpha the Magnet Warrior", "Beta the Magnet Warrior", and "Gamma the Magnet Warrior" from your hand or face up on the field. Once per turn you can send this card from the field to the GY, Special Summon the monsters that were tributed to summon this card from your GY. The Knights cards could be done more or less the same way, Queens Knight searches and summons Kings Knight, Kings Knight searches and summons Jacks Knight, Jacks Knight searches and summons Queens Knight.

While you control a face up "Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts" you can Special Summon this card from your hand and if you do you can add 1 "Polymerization" from your deck to your hand. Chimera Retrain: (Atk is 2300) Must first be Fusion Summoned. Your opponent cannot activate Spells or Traps during the Battle Phase. When this card is sent from the field to the GY you can Special Summon 1 "Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts" or "Berformet" from your GY in face up defense position. This not only makes Chimera much better since he freezes Spells and Traps but it turns Gazelle and Berformet into 1 card combos to summon him, making this strategy very consistent.

Yugi's Duelist Kingdom deck doesn't make sense but that's kinda by design since it's not really his deck at this point, it's his grandfathers deck. Sure he was given it and he does form a bond with it and learn to trust it but at this point it's still a deck he's learning to use. It's not until Battle City where that deck truly becomes his own, complete with lots of additions and changes. Cards like Celtic Guardian, Winged Dragon Guardian of the Fortress, and Silver Fang are gone and we instead have newcomer's like Chimera and it's materials, Buster Blader, Magic Formula, Dark Magician Girl, and the Magnet Warriors. All cards that are meant to enhance old favorites like the Dark Magician, give him better Fusion targets for Polymerization, and more field swarming potential that can double as a boss monster. The Virtual World arc gives him a few new additions like Obnoxious Celtic Guardian and Nutrient Z but not much more than that. Waking the Dragons sees the Kuriboh Bros and Breaker the Magical Warrior as pretty good additions as well as the entire Timaeus line up though he isn't able to keep those unfortunately. I know I missed others like his Swift Gaia, Big Shield Gardna, Dark Paladin, Watapon and many others and we even know of a few additions he received after the original series thanks to GX, with monsters like Dark Magician of Chaos and Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning. So Yugi's deck is not meant to make sense right away but it improves and slowly builds it's identity as the series goes on.

I always think of it that way that the series played in our past and thats why the competition back then wasn't as optimized as today's decks

It's a crime that you didn't rate the season 1 deck in the context of no monster requiring tributes to summon.

Other than the cards you completely misread, you have to remember. Yugi isn't playing Yugioh he's playing monster duel. A different game. Even in the show when they play these spells they don't have writing on them. These monsters could have effects we've never heard of because it's a different game than the real life adaptation we made of it.

Imagine being hospitalized because someone ripped up your card… I guess that really happened 😅
