I always use like going up on the roof top. As you say a beautiful view. All those roof tiles were replaced after the storm in 1987. It was originally Welsh slate that was on the roof. As I looked out over Sandown from the roof after the storm, all I could see was missing slates from all the roofs around the place. it was a sight to behold.

@@isasalaam5055 that's wild! Is that the part's that are covered in felt that was originally slate? There is an elevated wooden platform above the centre turret of the hotel too which looked modern. The view's were very impressive an hopefully if the building is restored the roof would make a brilliant area for food and drinks on an afternoon overlooking the sunset.

I was in Ventnor in Jul'21, and I have to say that the boarded up arcade was an eyesore - really lowering the tone of the bay area. So if there was no intention to spruce it up and re-open it as some form of amusement attraction it won't be missed.

Yes, it's sad to know these places were a highlight in their day only to amount to nothing now, it should have either been revived as an arcade/ adults restbite or building with several businesses inside.

Well that's yet another part of Ventnors history forever gone. Very sad (and suspicious). It would be nice to think that those responsible were caught and prosecuted, but I doubt it, somehow (just like the pier in the 1980's).

The ( to go to) convenience of fire's to make end's meet, it should have either remained an arcade or a palisade to help ventnor with business.

We feel the same, plenty in there should have been preserved. Something doesn't add up as we watched the fire it looked like the roof was targeted an the rear of the building.
