I watched this masterpiece today on the big screen after a hiatus of 40 years. It still had the same emotional impact on me as it did in 1984 and Ry Cooder's music score is still sublime 💕

“Canción Mixteca” (1912) Written over a century ago, this melancholy folk song expresses the homesickness of a migrant, and his longing for his home region. It was written by an Oaxacan composer who had moved to Mexico City. "Canción Mixteca" is a Mexican folk song written by Oaxacan composer José López Alavez (1889-1974). Lopez Alavez wrote the melody of the song in 1912, and composed the lyrics in 1915. Over the years, “Canción Mixteca” became an anthem of sorts for Mexican expats. Since 1984, it has received even wider exposure from its use in the soundtrack to the film “Paris, Texas” with the lyrics sung by the actor Harry Dean Stanton.
