It's known as the "Sarajevo Approach".

There are huge RAF aircraft that come low over my house usually in the evening, touch down at Liverpool and carry straight on to go around a couple more times then head north I think to Newcastle last time. They come from Brize and come over Warrington really low and give off a right rumble.

Like an airshow approach, but not as steep!

Looked like a combat approach to me.

In fact, Liverpool seems to be used a lot for A400 training. I live directly under the right downwind almost directly north of the runway and often hear it and see it if I look, doing circuits at around 2000ft with T&Gs.

Landed like that in Tuzla once, a very long time ago.

They are big enough you get that whole “not moving fast enough to stay in the air” feeling. These planes are much like the B-52, so good they will be around practically forever.

Minimise time spent close to the ground, less chance of getting the wheels stolen.

Tactical landing. In Bad weather it’s the best option.

I believe the Air Force doesn't have any KC-130s. They use the designation C-130 for this particular aircraft I think. The KC goes with the 135s and KC 10s . Not sure what the K stands for.

Thats what is called a tac landing my friends..... Its the thing they do daily in Afghanistan or a war zone.... The tac takeoff is much better. Ive been in a few of both of them in the past! Its a tactical move to avoid missiles and being shot at.

Standard short-field/hot zone approach, gives minimum time for the 'bad guys' to get a back-pack missile lock on the aircraft. When they do a really short approach, it looks like a crash-landing, with all surfaces flapping and twisting on the touchdown.

They'd heard about the gang warfare - reds vs blues - and didn't want to take any chances so performed a high energy approach 😂

I believe it's called the 'Kandaha approach'. Designed for war zones to give a very short approach run in to dangerous areas. Was it for practice, or just showing off to the locals I wonder, lol 🤣. Either way a great catch. 👍👍👍🇬🇧

Learned to fly in an older, short runway airport, with about a 12° glideslope because of trees. Mostly in 1970s Cherokees with a semi-tapered wing, that didn't want to descend that fast. Side slipped heavily on more landings than not. Later had a share of a 68 Cherokee with the Hershey-bar wing, didn't have to slip so much.

The pilots are trained to do that when landing in hostile environments to minimise the risk. I imagine its more fun to land that way too.

When they park on the ramp a scally asks “Look after ya plane mista?” “No thanks son. We’ve got a trained dog to look after our plane.” “Can yer dog put our fires mista?” says the scally.
