The Eclipse That You Probably Missed
#24-9. Maybe you saw the 2024 Eclipse live as it happened. Or maybe you weren't in an area where you could go outside and see it in real time, so you watched videos on UA-cam. Or maybe you did both. Chances are that you never saw the eclipse exactly like it is presented here, because you were looking up. I was looking down, and the sight was amazing.

    • @cm5896
      @cm5896 4 місяці тому

      Yes. Very happy. The pump stopped working once, but all I did to fix it was dismount it, jostle it, shake it, and tap it hard with a screw driver handle a few times and it started working again. So maybe the pump isn't the highest quality, but the concept of what I did and the idea of using larger tubing and a pump connected to an expansion tank eliminated almost all of the noise. You really can't hear it unless you are really listening for it.

      Lmao.. those are shadows through gaps in leaves. Because the sun is so far away it's, the light rays are essentially parallel. This means you can get an image of the sun through a pinhole. Usually that image would be a circle, but during the eclipse it was a crescent. You can see the same thing with a pinhole projector (where it looks more obviously like a crescent because the leaves are not obscuring the image)

    • @countrylanestudios
      @countrylanestudios 8 місяців тому

      I'm sorry that you are confused. It is a sidewalk. Occasionally some grass sneaks into the edges of the video. There are shadows on the sidewalk. They are from the overhead trees and leaves. The shadows are affected by the eclipse. I thought that a narration would have taken away from the effect so......no narration.

      It does, but its just a projection of the sun. The little spaces between the leaves acts as a projector of the sun, like a camera lens does. If you poke a hole in a piece of paper and hold it over a surface during an eclipse, it will project the sun's eclipse onto that surface. This is what is happening, except thousands of times over at the same time.

    I have thought my black tank might have that problem, but keep forgetting to look at sensors after dumping. By the time i check its reading 2/3 full. So tomorrow I need to check it before I head out. This a new TT with only 8 nights of use. I have black tank flushed it and water seem clear. So I feel mine is sensor. Thanks for info, I do have a 16' bore scope and a power wash sewer jetter.

    • @countrylanestudios
      @countrylanestudios Рік тому

      Eight nights shouldn't be enough to cause a legitimate dirty sensor issue, so a bad sensor , loose connection, bad control panel inside the trailer, or improper pipe installation are all likely. The way I got the idea that my drain pipes were installed wrong was at a campground where the the road at the dump station was pointed uphill, so my truck and rig weren't level when I dumped. Like magic my black tank and bathroom gray tank registered zero after dumping at that station. At my next opportunity, I raised the front jacks as high as I could while I was emptying the tanks, and same thing. My sensors indicated zero after dumping the tanks. When we finished camping for awhile, I pulled the underbelly plastic down and saw that the pipes were installed wrong.

      We'll be there again in February/March and will probably cross over the bridge in Corpus Christi. I'll take another look at the ferry clearance issue while we are there. I get nervous when the clearance sign indicates a number that is only one or inches higher than my trailer. My thought is always "What if it's wrong". It's more of an issue with bridges since roads get paved, signs may not get changed, or maybe there are dips under the bridge. Maybe your trailer bounces a bit as you go under so yeah, if you were stationary, clearance would be fine, but at 60mph, maybe not. Speed and bouncing on the ferry aren't issues, but still, I get nervous when I see a sign that has almost no margin for error.

    What setting should I used when driving on this beach? Should I used 4H or 4L?

    • @countrylanestudios
      @countrylanestudios Рік тому

      The beach from Port Aransas all the way down to just-before the Mustang Island area is hard packed sand. I used 4H for this entire stretch of beach. Once you get to the Mustang Island area and South of Mustang Island, you need to be more careful. The sand is either not groomed, not well-packed, or could be a problem if you take the wrong vehicle onto the beach. I have an F350 dually with a diesel engine. Very heavy. I had no problems in the Port Aransas area in 4H (very hard packed sand). I ran into problems once I got to Mustang Island and almost got stuck. Luckily, I got out before I got into trouble......mostly because I had a vehicle that had no business being on soft sand (a 10,000 pound dually).

    We use a traditional 25 ft white braded water hook up hose... It doesn't coil up perfectly for storage especially when cold... But carry a 13 X 13 X 11 inch deep plastic milk carton that works well to contain the coil for storage... Just stuff it in there like on a 45 degree angle, sticks out the top... Grab the carton, shove it in the cargo bay, pull it out, load, unload... Very easy...

    Couple years ago the hot water heater broke down in my house so I was using my travel trailers shower for almost a month (long story why my plumber too so long). Foolishly I didn't open up the gray water valve after every shower. Instead I let the soapy water sit for a couple of days before emptying. Then my 1/4 full sensor wouldn't go off. What finally worked for me was I dumped in a good 20 gallons of hot water (from my houses heater) let it sit for about 20 minutes. Did this twice and that cleaned off the sensor which finally turned off.

    That's interesting. I'm going to have to check that one of these days when I'm motivated. Along these lines of showing the wrong levels, I thought my sensors were dirty after many years of use. I tried various methods of shaking the trailer, dish washer detergent, etc. This was in my grey tank only. My black tank has a flush spray valve so it was never an issue. Then, I came across a video by an RV repair tech on Ew Toob who suggested that the tank monitor panel might have a defective circuit board so I changed the board. I just returned from an outing with the new circuit board a couple of weeks ago and that was the problem in my case. The grey tank now shows empty after draining.

    • @cm5896
      @cm5896 Рік тому

      A bad sensor or bad monitor panel is certainly one of the things that I might look at first. An improperly installed pipe would be the last thing on my list, yet that was the cause of my problem.

    Can I ask how you drain the water hose ahead of storage? I just got a flexible water hose like you describe. I typically leave it bundled in a loop and only unloop the length I need to connect my trailer to the water source. When I go to pack up camp, do I have to unravel 50' of hose and hold one end up and make my way along the whole thing? Seems unhygienic to leave water stagnating but I’m just unsure of the best method to drain.

    • @cm5896
      @cm5896 Рік тому

      I always unroll the entire hose. When finished, I "walk out" the hose to drain it as completely as possible before rolling it up. I don't know if it's absolutely necessary to do that, but that's what I've always done and it just seems like the right thing to do IMO. If there is a concern with having bad water in the hose after storage, running some water through it for a minute before hooking into your rv water system should help remove the worst of whatever is in there. If you think it's necessary, maybe run a mild, diluted chlorine solution through the hose periodically, then flush the hose for a minute or 2 to remove the chlorine. I've never done that, but I've never noticed a problem with bad stuff in the hose. I am going to guess that some of the problems that can occur depends on the quality of water that is being supplied at the campground or in the particular part of the country where you are staying.

    Wow, did the dealer offer to fix this? I ask because we took our new RV back to the dealer because the tank level lights showed full tanks when they were only half full. The dealer found the sensors were in the wrong place (Covid era build), and put new sensors in, covered under warranty. I think the dealers get to charge back to the Mfr. for these types of build errors.

    • @cm5896
      @cm5896 Рік тому

      I didn't even try to get it fixed by the dealer due to my experience with trying to get other issues resolved and the practical aspects of paying for it myself. First, my dealer is 100 miles from my house. My truck gets 11MPG when towing. Diesel is hovering around $4.50/gallon in Pennsylvania. The roundtrip fuel cost is roughly $80 for a single roundtrip to take the trailer and drop it off. I need to make a second roundtrip to pick the trailer up and bring it home. That's $160 for fuel, plus the wear and tear on my truck and trailer. The parts cost me less than $160. Also, I lose 2 days of productive time while I make those 2 roundtrips. There is also the time that my trailer is not available for camping while it is in the shop. Maybe a week. Maybe 2 weeks. Maybe 2 or more months. This is a Jayco trailer. Jayco dealers are not authorized to "just fix it" and send the bill to Jayco. They "need to diagnose the problem", tell Jayco why they think the problem needs resolved in a certain way, wait for Jayco to respond and authorize the repair or tell them the repair is not authorized or otherwise needs re-diagnosed in a different manner to fix it in a different way. This alone could take several weeks before they even attempt to do a repair. Camping World sells the same trailer and is a little bit closer, but I didn't buy it from them. If you try to get a trailer repaired at a dealer other than where you purchased the trailer, they aren't nearly as motivated to make sure your trailer is fixed quickly. Also, I won't go to Camping World for anything other than to window shop.

    I don’t get these pipe supports. Don’t you only open to drain once it’s nearly full? Is it hard to just let it drain then lift up the hose and run along it to get the rest out? I think it would be less time to do that then set up this support system. I suppose if you were living our of your RV and never moving around then it would make sense but otherwise I’d rather not bother with it.

      At the end of the day, everyone needs to do what works for them. Opening your drain when the tanks are full is typically the advice that you see the most often, especially for the black tank. The tip in my video about supports isn't geared toward any specific circumstance (short term, mid-term, long term stay, etc), but is probably most useful for someone that intends to stay at one location for awhile. However, I see a lot of people connect their sewer hose the minute they arrive at a campground, regardless of how long they are staying. I don't, but many people do. Also, I tend to just let the hose lay on the ground most of the time without supports, but there are times when a support is beneficial. I have also heard of some campgrounds that mandate that your sewer hose must never touch the ground, therefore a support is mandatory. I have not been to one of those campgrounds, but I am aware of the requirement at some campgrounds. So, if this tip offers no benefit, there is no reason to use it. If supports are more trouble than they are worth, then don't use them. There is no "right" answer. But if you use the supports that I show in the video, using something other than the metal legs might prove to be easier and faster than messing around with the legs, and it's something that you may not have thought about....so I made the video. Have a great day and thank you for watching and commenting.

      You need to do whatever works for you. This suggestion is probably more practical for people that are stationary for a few weeks to a few months and/or have small capacity tanks. I don't do this every single time I move to a new location since most of the time its easier to do something other than what I put in this video. But once in a while I use this suggestion. Many people may not think of it, so, I made a video to give people a suggestion that maybe they hadn't thought of. Thank yo for watching.

      If you don't like it, that's fine. Not everyone likes or can see the benefit of a good, free idea. Apparently you've found something else that works for you. I may not like your idea, but it doesn't mean yours is useless. I've used this now for more than a year. I like it. It works for me. I posted the video because it may help others. If it doesn't work for you, move on to something that does. Pretty simple, really.

    Do you have any info on what sites to avoid for flooding? I have seen pics of some of the camp sites standing in water after heavy rains. Thank you for this video. We are planning a trip and seeing what awaits us really helps us plan our trip.

      The campground is fairly flat except near the dumpsters on the left as you drive into the camp site area. I have seen those first few sites on the left sometimes hold water, but I think most of the others dry out at about the same rate. We had site 17 for 2 weeks and never had any significant problems. You might want to join a Facebook group for Texas State Parks and ask the question there or look at the reviews for this park at RVLife.com (campgrounds.rvlife.com/regions/texas/port-aransas/mustang-island-state-park-2870). If there is a site that floods, you will probably find your answer in one of the reviews from people that have stayed there. Hope this helps
