@jrlombardi5251 I had no idea she was having those struggles. Though to be fair they could easily write her character an excuse as to why she didn't come to any reunions as she didn't exactly leave TNS on the best terms.

@@spectralight8412 being a slave to something, in this phrase's context, isn't a bad thing. The phrase is about what everyone uses to keep going, their motivation, how everyone gets drunk on something to keep living. For Kenny it was power, for Eren it was freedom, for Erwin proving his dad was right, for Armin getting the freedom to see the wonders of the world, for Jean it was to honor Marco's death. Jean has a strong sense of justice, he has selfish wishes but he never allows them to himself because he can't help but do the right thing. Like yeah, he can join the military police and live at peace protected on wall sina, but he joins the survey corps to help humanity. And yeah, he can live a privileged life with the jaegerists inside the walls, but he betrays them and goes to stop the rumbling. He wanted those things, but he rejects them because he can't bring himself to do them while it has a negative angle for others. That's also why he thinks about leaving the survey corps when they basically ask him to kill humans, before noticing it is something that has to be done. Whenever Jean's more selfish side tries to surpass everything else, Marco comes into the picture and makes him lean to the selfless path. He wants to join the military police, but while burning Marco's body and looking at his ashes, Jean hears his words and sees his smile, he presses the ashes and says "I'm joining the survey corps!" with difficulty and tears. When Jean tries his hardest to ignore the rumbling because he truly wants to have peace and stay with the jaegerists, needing to close his eyes and cover his ears to pretend that's the choice that'll make him the most happy, that he'll be fine being the selfish jerk he was as a pre-teen as Floch told him, Hange reminds him of their fallen comrades and why they so what they do, why they have to stop the rumbling and the jaegerists even if it's a suicidal mission, Jean denies it all, till he sees Marco, he closes his eyes and says "I'm forever a scout". When Onyankopon tells him he thought he would never betray the jaegerists, Jean agrees as he hates this is the option that sits the best with him and says that he does because if he didn't Marco would never forgive him. He couldn't live with himself if he took the other path, Marco's memory always pushes him yo choose the one. That's what always keeps him going, as power did for Kenny, as freedom did for Eren. What they needed to get drunk on, what they were slaves of.
