*I've witnessed, for more than 2 decades in the animal advocacy movement, a lot of errant, irrational, vitriolic hatred spewed by Left Wing Intersectionals at straight White men.* Those deranged Left Wing haters are the biggest problem in the animal advocacy. movement
Humans are omnivores.
Vegans are only happy when they're arguing, and never more so than when they argue with each other. 😂😂😂 That's why veganism will never become the default standard for humans.
Thanks for covering this subject in the vegan movement. I left the AR groups for good, about 5 years ago and will never go back. I observe from afar. The plant-based world is much kinder. I knew Tobias many years ago, but he was also one to follow the tribe and unfriended me after I supported his first book launch, as did thousands of vegans that were friends for years/decades. Sometimes the only resolve is to walk away. Well done.
I've shared this on my Facebook and so many friends !! Well fucking said !! VEGAN FOR THE ANIMALS
Thanks for the talk. Veganism needs to be focused on the animals and we can't allow small differences to derail progress.
the biggest threat is lack of b12 cholesterol and bioavailable iron and many other nutrients which you just can not get or digest properly on pure plant based vegan mistake...(its must for happy brain)...south asians are vegetarians(not vegans) for thousands of years for a reason that they understood benefits of milk and dairy and fermented dairy centuries ago and they are not vegans...vegans is spelling mistake and bad for longevity and long term happiness
Veganism is not about suffering, it is about ending animal exploitation. Listen to real vegans who know what they are talking about. This guy is not one of them.
David, you're so honest, genuine and well spoken. You're kind and patient, and the vegan community is lucky to have your voice for the animals💚
👋
Thank you for the excellent info ❤❤❤
I have been following you now for years, David. I am an older white guy and it’s been a privilege to watch you grow as a person. You are replacing anger and confrontation with reason and are much more persuasive as a result.
"Do you think you might have a blindspot as a white male". The audacity to ask that when he has given you examples of how he has been attacked and discriminated against by people with poisoned minds about white men, is beyond belief. "Blindspot"? If anything, he is speaking from experience on an issue the guy at the end has no experience of. The guy asking the question is the one with the blindspot.
It’s not possible to question oneself or recognize your biases. The issue is not about whether you are sexist or not; it’s about understanding the structural systems of sexism or racism and how they manifest, often subtly or unconsciously, in behaviors, opportunities, etc. If women are not online, is not because they don't want to but because they face many more challenges: fewer people would listen to them, or take what they say seriously, and also online harassment is much higher among women. Saying "It is horrible to hear that I am a sexist". Don't you think that it's much more difficult to experience sexism every day? The idea here is just to recognize your privileges as a white cis male, and after to question them. Of course, you can use them to speak up for animals because people would more likely listen to you, but you are not a victim here: the animals are! And the women also, because they share a certain condition together. The oppression is shared by many groups of people nonhuman animals included and we can't separate them!
It baffles me that so many people who claim to oppose all forms of discrimination are not realizing how racist it is to blindly hate on said demographic. Vegans especially should know better than to judge one another based on what they're born as.
Go vegan
I can't believe that David is still butthurt so many years later.
So no problem with excluding people from the movement only because they're cis white males, right?
Troll.
@DM-fj8wv How? Why?
I don't think you listened to the talk

This guy is known to file false copyright strikes against other vegans on videos where he has public conversations and doesn't like how the conversation makes him look. That's vegan unity?

Well.... ableism and victim blaming should be decreased in the movement. Period. That's one important thing. Second: Compassion and understanding must be practiced, without getting into double standards, victim blaming etc..... animals' rights are as important as humans' rights. Veganism should connect with other justice movements, and not fall in a trap with greedy, narcissistic ideologies and systems (there are enough in this mad world.... more than enough, thanks....). We need more kindness! :)
Why don't you spread veganism among the hypocrites who pretend to fight for injustice but still stuffing their faces with victims flesh? These hypocritical carnists number in the BILLIONS and do unimaginable harm to the innocents EVERY SINGLE DAY. GET THEM TO GO VEGAN FIRST
Victim blaming? NO CARNISTS WHO STILL CHOOSE TO STUFF THEIR FACES with flesh are victims. THE ANIMALS ARE THE REAL VICTIMS.
Thank you for having the guts to bring up such a difficult topic. Excluding someone because of your skin colour, your sex/gender or your sexual orientation is wrong. These things are really important to talk about within our movement if we want to ever get anywhere. We are going up against billion dollar industries. Stay focused.
You exclude 97% of the population.

Nah, I'd rather not.
@DM-fj8wv ?
The animals do not care about our petty human differences. They need us to speak up for them no matter what!
No they don't.
How long have you been preaching this rubbish for now?
And the PHF (Past hell future) award goes to the bovine family of kingdom animalia.
Very interesting talk David 👏 I always appreciate the disclaimer at the start that you're not an expert. Has given me a lot to think about. One useful reminder is that it would be nice if the activist space was more diverse, and we can each do our bit to try and achieve that.
It was great having John Cooper Clarke to give the first"question/comment"....
Who's that?
It's funny how people call you sexist through their own blind-sided sexist lens. I believe it's called "projection"....Seriously though, isn't the 'narcissism of small differences' was what the "Peoples Front of Judea v The Judean Peoples Front v Judean Popular Peoples Front" all about?
The biggest threat to vegan unity is complacency, we are so caught up fighting animals in animal ag, that subconsciously we think we are doing enough. Without much thought for the innumerable Wild Animals wiped out form 2/4 of the Earths( ice free ) land mass to feed the extra 80 billion animals We are in the resulting 6th mass extinction. I just wished Vegan UA-cam outreach activists would give a shout out for the Wild Animals !. ‘’Veganism is not enough’’ ( pioneer’& visionary the late Kathleen Jannaway, Secretary of the Vegan Society in the 60’s. ) 🌻🌎✌🏽
Veganism isn't enough but vegan activism is the best work we can do for the animals including wild animals. Going vegan is the moral baseline. Doing activism work to make the world go vegan IS the best use of your time if you care about wildlife.
Good talk, David 💯🙏👏💜🤠 Thank you for your insight.
"Veganism doesn't have a movement. Animal rights has a movement. Welfarists have a movement. But veganism doesn't. In order for there to actually be a movement, everyone needs to be working together, and vegans aren't working together. Some of us, yeah." - Sky Jack Morgan
Those last four words were a crucial inclusion in the quote
Such a great talk. Important to bring up these points thank you David! And it’s important for us to listen to everyone, it’s really bad that these days it’s ok to use “white cis male” as an insult/negative term to throw around, imagine doing that for any other skin colour or gender. We are individuals all working towards animal liberation.
Yeah, being white and cis does not automatically mean not respecting non-white or non-cis
Great points David. Another woman who founded a major animal rights organisation was Leia Dollinger from Australia for Meat The Victims
Im glad this video was put online, and I am glad David has decided to try and step back from getting into confrontational arguments etc. The problem with Davids’s approach to the problem of infighting is that he (and many others of the social media generation) seems to think that the movement would be more effective if the ‘infighting’ went away. David does present his argument very well here so I’m going to spend a bit of time responding here (700 words! sorry!). What David describes as infighting is actually a series of political debates about the future of the movement. All of the example of bad behaviour or infighting given in this talk come from what most of us would call the progressive/social justice side of the movement. I’m sure many (most) of the criticisms he and others get from this part of the movement include a whole lot of badly thought-out cringeworthy rants, and it is easy to dismiss or make fun of those comments, but beyond the ranting there is a really big divide that we can’t ignore. While we all agree that the movement we are in should focus on animal rights and veganism, some of us see the movement as essentially single issue, animals only, nonpolitical etc. and some of us see animal rights as part of a broader struggle against oppression/exploitation etc. Right now, I can hear you all saying “keep politics out of animal rights, I’m not political, I just care about animals”. Well, I disagree. I’ve been vegan for thirty years, been involved in lots of different campaigns, made a lot of mistakes and occasionally learned some things. When we live in a world where profit, selfishness and individualism are the dominant values, being non-political means trying to turn everyone vegan without actually understanding how society works or how social movements work. This isn’t just a criticism of the “keep politics out of veganism” crowd, the progressive/social justice side of our movement is also often caught up in this individualistic selfishness. So I have two things to say that I hope will be useful. Firstly, many movement leaders and social media influencers I have met or talked with are very big on sales and marketing, business and psychology books. David quotes from a psychology book in this talk and also mentions ‘First Principles Thinking’, which I had never heard of but seems to be trendy among business people and when I googled it, the computer tells me Elon Musk is a big fan. Not just because a fascist lunatic like Musk is a big fan doesn’t mean the theory is wrong, but I think the fact that many of our movement leaders read an awful lot of business marketing and psychology books and hardly any history, sociology, or political theory shows that we aren’t really taking movement building seriously. I want David and others to put down the psychology books and start reading about successful social justice movements. None of the problems/infighting/politics our movement has are new and we can learn more from reading about these than we can by reading marketing and psychology books. Secondly, social movements are supposed to be messy! None of us know what is going to work so we need to try a whole lot of things. We are going to argue, a lot. If we achieved total unity the movement would be dead. Yes, we need to treat each other with respect, and no we won’t always agree but that’s fine. We might need to unite if we happen to be in the same place and working on a single campaign for a while but other than that it doesn’t matter. We also need to recognise that if we are serious about abolishing a huge part of the global economy, and changing the way society thinks about other species, we might need some friends and we will definitely need to talk to people in other movements. The climate justice movement, the feminists, the anti-racist movement. The antiwar movements. We can’t do it by ourselves and we can’t build a powerful global movement by insisting that we must all be united most of the time. None of this means you have to be a lefty, or work on non-vegan issues, but it does mean you have to see people in those movements as allies, not enemies or disruptors. Movement building is about working with all sorts of people with all sorts of different political ideas. The word politics comes from the Greek, meaning affairs of the city, or how we make decisions. It’s going to be messy and you can’t make it go away. You have to learn to live with it. And read more books.
Wooow, you wrote from my heart!!! 100% agree. 🤘💪✊💚V A🖤👋
I don't think David was trying to insist anything. Those who choose to spend their energy being upset about a 'white hetero man' need to take a nice slow breath, zoom out, and refocus on the victims of 24/7/265 abuse, torture, and killing. And not on their own personal issues, they should be addressed privately and with professional assistance if necessary.
I was there at IARC and listened to David's speach live. It was not what I expected David to talk about, it was something far more important. To unify vegan movement. But as one understands quickly through David's speach is that too many people doesn't seam to be in this movement for the animals. One wonder why they're actually are part of it. And it was sad to see that quite many people at IARC didn't seam to understand the message that David was sharing. It's about unifying in the name of veganism FOR THE ANIMALS. Veganism isn't about the people. It's about the animals. Support each other, give feedback and be open for feedback. That's how we can grow as activists and as a movement.
@@vystopia 👏👏👏
Vegan activists hate people and themselves first and foremost so there will never be unity among vegans.
So amazing to get to know about such awesome people, thank you!
I LOVE the tranformation of David Ramms! I'm sure that with his passion and dedication, and know more knowledge and understanding, he will make a fantastic activist!
How aweful is all that... Humans are truly the worst species on this planet. There're no limits on what we are capable of doing (in a bad sense). Only people like vegans, vegan activists and other activists who try to do good in this world give hope for humanity... I hope there is karma for those who prompt such cruel businesses. This is just too bad.
We´ll keep fighting this industry! Pressure campaigns work and then we need some more political pressure on a global level. Unfortunately, economic chances also need to be considered; sometimes these people/families roll in these industries because they don't have much other options. People follow where the money is/goes/flows
I hope this video gets lots of views, it is so important! We are a small group with a huge task ahead of us. We need to learn how to accept and understand each other, and be open and willing to change if necessary. If we dont believe people can change based on what they've learned, then we're wasting our time as animal advocates! We all changed our lifestyles when we understood the vegan message. We need to be open and work at being united so we can focus our efforts together going forward to change the world for animals. And the animals must always be at the front and centre of everything we do. How sad that all these divisions have nothing to do with the animals! Great work David, an inspiring and vital talk. You have worked so hard at finding the best solutions going forward, and continue to research and adapt. Thank you ✊️💚
Thank you, for sharing your experiences David. I can definitely relate to some of what you mentioned, I never heard of the narcissism of small differences definitely worth checking out!
Once you think about it, it makes sense, right? I think that there are far too many egos trying to run the show, getting in the way of animals being liberated. Until the egos die, the animals don't stand a chance. But what do I know?
I'd never heard of it either, but it certainly clarifies a lot of things.
Thank you IARC, it’s so important to bring animal rights advocates together to hear from a lot of different fields and to listen to different voices.
This talk mattered to me also. The man in the end asked David the important questions. I have left groups that welcomed racists and excluded me and my people. Racism hurts!
Combatting the excesses of the political left and right in the vegan space will help the movement move forward. Trying to communicate with each other as fellow activists in reasonable and healthy ways is what is needed, not cancel culture, shame and envy-fuelled anger.
💯 %
I'm really happy that the last question was asked, and that it is part of the video. My follow up question to your answer is: why is it the responsibility of the oppressed party to inform the oppressor? Or in this case, why would it be the job of the racial minority person to teach someone else not to make racist comments? Your answer is given from a very priviledged position. People in minorities and oppressed groups actually face these kinds of comments and actions on their daily basis. How exasperating is it to have to have the same discussions in places where you are supposed to feel safe? I just don't think a person that's never been systemically oppressed would ever be able to understand this. At least that's what I get out of this talk.
To be understood, we need to communicate. Without communication, people just make assumptions. How can I understand someone else's experiences and feelings if they don't want to share them? If I want someone to understand my position, I need to explain to them in an open and accepting, non-judgemental way. Similarly, to understand someone else, I need to receive that message the same way. To not do so is to shut down communication. This can lead to judging that person in a negative way due to their lack of understanding. This is neither fair nor productive. In our movement, when this happens, the ones who truly suffer are the animals. We need to be united for them. That doesn't mean we have to agree on everything, but at the very least, we should not assume the worst of our fellow activists, and try to work out our differences like David explains here .
@@jpjulia4395 I understand what you mean, but when we make space for people that don't understand the issues (which arguably means they don't want to understand, given the level of easily accessible information in our world, and the focus there is on issues like racism, sexism, homophobia and so on), we take space from other people. As the person that asked the last question mentioned themselves, many people don't feel welcome in a place where others are allowed to act in a discriminatory way towards others. And I don't think the responsibility to teach the oppressors should fall on the oppressed individuals, especially in this day and age and especially in activist groups. In my opinion, those actions, if believed to be innocent or uninformed, only deserved to be called out (albeit in a calmly and respectful manner) once and only once. After that, the person should do their own research, understand why their words of actions were hurtful and do something about it. David mentions that he knows many people that have left the movement because of lack of acceptance. I know many people that have left the movement because of lack of action towards toxic behavior, regardless of how innocent or uninformed that behavior was. And I see that as a much bigger problem.
@@jpjulia4395great points. assuming positive intent from our fellow activists will get us much further than always thinking the worst.
Thank you for this very interesting & positive perspective. 🙏
Systemically oppressed! There are people who are being held as slaves right now , people who have been trafficked and are being exploited as I type this. You’re whining about systemic oppression ! Give me a break. Making yourself a victim instead of keeping the focus on the animals.
Thank you for the opportunity to discuss these issues, and to bring what I believe is a vital conversation to the table. I feel honoured to have shared the stage with such incredible advocates at such an important event, and I hope that we as a movement focus on making unity a priority.
Great talk David! Very well done and well said, and soo needed. 💚
I'm so sorry what you and Anni went through. There are so many people who love nothing more than spending their days swinging their heads around looking to be offended about something...anything, really. They thrive on it. If these people don't want to welcome anyone and everyone into the animal rights movement, and instead wish to focus more on how they perceive it affects other humans, then they're being speciesist. The animal rights movement is gaining momentum, but our community is fractured/divided. Animal liberation is the finish line, but we're taking different paths to cross it. Because we're dealing with our very flawed species, divisions in social justice movements are normal. Perhaps activists are more wired to "fight", even amongst ourselves, unlike the more conservative mainstream who tend to agree with one another and walk in lockstep. Despite best intentions, it's possible the animal rights/human rights intersectional model is actually hampering the goal of animal liberation. Historically, employing intersectionality between social justice movements (the struggles of human-on-human oppression) has been a win all 'round. But fighting for the rights of non-humans is a different "animal" completely. Bridges are being built...but these bridges often go only one way with little reciprocation for the "new kid on the block", with human rights agendas the only ones benefiting from the support of animal activists. I think that each of us should get active in the best way we know how, employing our skills, talents, passions, etc., and not tear down one another or criticize our best efforts. I believe I would do anything to advance the animals' agenda. I've been fighting for them (starting with insects) since I was a pre-schooler, so I definitely want to build a stronger, more inclusive, and effective movement as allies to animals...but not by putting non-human animals second to humans. I would love to join your Vegan Social Media Group. I operate Wishbone Animal Rights Lab in Toronto, and with our fully-equipped media studio, we want to improve the content we're creating and releasing. Thanks for all that you and Anni do for our beloved animals. Sue
Also, to be honest, I wrote the earlier comment before your talk had concluded. You've really inspired me to make some changes in how to communicate with people addicted to cancel culture, etc. Thank you.
this was extremely educational. culture of cancel culture, it's just and only same old tactics of silencing and stifling real real necessary debates (that are justified debates, different than useless/needless "debates" that were already clarified). old tactics new names. imagine groups of slavers chimpanzees calling themselves abolitionists chimpanzees with tactics of "canceling" and silencing some real REAL abolitionists chimpanzees exposing slavery sounding the alarms demanding to stop(not change) and abolish slavery (actions that coincide with real abolitionists), "canceling" by tactics of false accusations and herrings and $?![. we have the chance with every moment to do the right logical nonviolators choice. we do the right thing regardless of accusations and acceptances and noise and bs from others that are maybe real abolitionists. just their actions(every action or improvement) shows. nobody's perfect. improvements make super difference between realities.

After 9 mins, Martin Balluch says that TB is an infectious disease, that red deer give each other TB bacteria, but this is not true because the infectious theory is only a theory. He is clearly a follower of the germ theory, and that is his downfall. He needs to keep to fact, not theory. Read my article BOVINE TUBERCULOSIS EXPLAINED on the FALSIFICATION OF HISTORY website. Also do not innoculate animals or humans for that matter. Its totally pointless. More germ theory nonsense.
This is fantastic, what you're doing! So happy to come across such impactful activists!!
Peace begins on your plate.☮ Thank you for the video.🌱
