Welcome to ComixConversation, the place where you can watch videos to learn all about the Flash and DC Events. I go into in depth reviews, as well as overviews of comic books of the Flash, and of DC Events. There will also be videos with the Flash reading order that I made, and this reading order is the most detailed reading order I have seen, with all the DC Events being included in that reading order.
There are overviews of books, containing very minor spoilers, giving you the opportunity to decide for yourself if you think the book I am going over is something you might like.
When I first started reading Flash comics, I was lost, but now I am a lot more knowledgeable of the DC Universe, and specifically the Flash, I want to give others a chance to start reading the Flash with as little difficulty as possible. Stay tuned for my upcoming videos!

Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus Overview: Non-spoiler
I hope you enjoyed my video. Next video I hope to upload an overview video of the Final Crisis event, which will include background/suggested reading to understand the event. Comment any questions you may have for the Final Crisis event, since it will help me know where to focus when writing the script for the video.
Here is a link to the documentary of Jack Kirby I mentioned in this video (I think it is worth checking out): ua-cam.com/video/XoXeiEXJrgc/v-deo.html
If you are still interested in learning more about him, there is another great documentary on him, which can be found on Amazon Prime, and you can watch it for free with ads, it is called "Kirby at War" (something I also recommend checking out).

Really appreciate your vids! Thanks for the hard work 😊
what was the 3rd book u showed and also whats the book holder from the flash from
The third book I believe is Infinite Crisis, at least that is if you are referring to the book with the cover of batman, wonder woman, and superman on it. Man, I have not checked this video out in a while, I sounded so goofy. I have been planning on making some more updated videos with the recent flash books released, and possibly take a deep dive into philosophical frameworks that have been alluded to in various comic books, as well as how Grant Morrison modernized greek tragedy, I don't know if that sounds interesting though.
Ok so I’ve been reading the rebirth run and I finished reading vol 5 negative which has issues 28-32 and then issue 33 is part of dark metal but yet in vol 6 cold day in hell it has issues 34-38 but issue 32 leaves off where 34 starts so I’m just confused on where issue 33 fits in there
do you by any chance have an instgram?
No sorry, I do not at the moment
The bronze age is neglected in general. I'm getting tired of waiting for a bronze age Batman omnibus.
Amazing overview! Clear, concise, knowledgeable!! 10/10!! You are a superstar!!
Hello. I have noticed it's been a while since you posted. I really enjoy the attention of detail and effort you put into every video. I would like to see some more content. Maybe even another flash reading order
Thanks for the support, I have been quite busy and haven't had time to look at this project I started last summer, but recently I have a lot of time cleared up, and I'll do my best to do a remastered version of the flash reading order. Is there anything else you might want covered in future videos? I have been reading a lot of other stuff to make my content more diverse, but depending on what is preferred, I can focus more on the flash.
Sadly cheapgraphicnovels doesn't ship outside of the US :(
Been trying to figure out how to go about starting to read my fav characters comics while also reading the events in the right places along the way, so your vids have been a godsend.
Don't worry, you don't need to apologize! By the way in the past few days I've been rereading Crisis on Infinite Earths and, as I had expected, I enjoyed it way more than the first time i read it. There still are things that I don't like but in general it's a pretty good story. Yeah, it took me years just to get a good amount of Flash books and I'm still missing a lot of them (but that's because I also read mangas). I'm not from the US so unfortunately i can't use that site but luckily, since the last year, here in Italy they have been reprinting old books from DC's main characters (such as Flashpoint, The long Halloween, All Star Superman etc.) in cheaper versions that only cost 7 euros (7/8$) and this is the reason why I've been able to start reading new characters, in particular Batman and Superman. I still haven't read much, but I can recommend you Batman Year One, The long halloween, Dark Victory, The Court of Owls, Hush, Superman Secret Origin and Secret Identity. These are the ones that i've read so far and they're amazing books. When other stories will be reprinted in this cheaper version i'm definitely going to purchase them, such as Superman Up in the sky, All STar Superman, For all Seasons, What Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, Batman Arkham Asylum and so on. I feel like these two characters are really easy to approach because there are so many amazing standalone books that anyone can pick and enjoy. I wish Flash had more standalone and out of continuity books like these that didn't require you to have much knowledge about the past. As for your project, it sounds really interesting. I'm always willing to learn new info about the things i love, so if it's fine with you feel free to share the link!
I had to make a couple changes from the version I turned in, but if you are still curious, here is the link to the document: docs.google.com/document/d/1eFwqQZf2bFqF0xJOD3Ydy3UM-DifqWx7TdAmbC22Qvs/edit?usp=sharing Of course there is always more to add to the document, and there it technically isn't the version I would publicly share, since there are some things that I didn't have time to touch on, but the link above is an early version of what I may end up sharing publicly.
It was a really interesting and fun read! I think you managed to summarise all the important stuff in a way everyone can follow and understand. Even tho I knew most of the information contained in this article I still learned something knew. For example, I didn't know about that psychiatric and the bonfires made with comics. As you've said there are so many things to say that it would be impossible to mention everything. You probably already plan on doing it, but I would give more info about Mark Waid's run since it's the most important one in the Flash history in my opinion. I would also mention Flashpoint and the new 52. Anyway, you did a great job!
Hey, great video! I really liked this story and I wish there were more books about the bronze age, I hope they will make a new version of the trial of the flash 'cause I really wanna read it. I also really like how they drew Barry at that time. Are you planning on making videos about the new flash's run with wally?
For the time being, I have had a lot of projects to work on, and right as I had completed two projects assigned, I am wrapping up another one, while just being assigned another one. As of now, I do not really have the time to work on these videos, even though I enjoy to make them, but as summer is approaching, I will start to have a lot more free time, and can focus on these videos. As for the new Flash run starring Wally, I have been collecting DC events and a majority of the tie-ins for each respective event, such as Dark Nights Metal, Doomsday Clock, Dark Nights Death Metal, Infinite Frontier, and some others (since I am a completest). Though I have been reading through them and once I get through those, I can then proceed to all of the issues of Jeremy Adam's run of The Flash, which I have been collected, I just like reading most stuff in chronological order.
Also, thanks for showing interest in my channel, and yeah, I definitely would like some more issues collected of The Flash from The Bronze Age. And for the artistic design for Barry, I thought it was interesting as well, I thought it was an interesting take on his hair style especially since during The Silver Age, Barry would have something of a crew cut/ buzz cut where as during The Death of Iris West, he had longer hair that was more flowing. I do also want to mention that when I get to Jeremy Adam's run of The Flash (the recent run of the flash), as I read through it, I will try to provide new commentary that hasn't been touched on by most other channels, as well as discuss all the connections and everything required for the Dark Crisis DC event (at least do my best to) that is coming out this summer.
Thanks for the reply! I've been really enjoying your channel since Flash is my favourite superhero. I don't usually read major events (I've only read crisis on infinite earths) so your videos have been really helpful to better understand what happens and I'm really looking forward to watching your next videos. I'd also like to hear your thoughts on Williamson's run. I've only read the first 8 issues (Godspeed arc) and Year One and I thought they were pretty good. However, right now I don't have much money to purchase every single book, so, since it's a really long run, are there in your opinion some arcs that I can skip for the moment and focus on the more important stuff?
Sorry for getting back to you late, but I have been going through my Flash Rebirth (2016) collection, and I believe I have what you are looking for. Also, I know you said you have read the first 8 issues (Godspeed's Arc), but I was wondering if you purchased the trade paperback of volume one? Since purchasing the trade paperbacks/softcovers, will be more cost efficient, than getting each individual issue. If you are getting the softcovers, I will recommend to skip The Flash volume 5-6, 9-10 (maybe 11 -- I will give explanations for each of the books), and volume 13. Which would be 5-6 volumes that you could skip from the total 15 volumes from The Flash Rebirth (2016) series. Those are the ones I will recommend to skip, I will give explanations for each book in the comment following this one so that this comment doesn't get too long
So all the books I feel like you could skip are The Flash volumes: 5-6, 9-10, and 13. The reason for 5-6 is because if you are on a budget, (which I get, I always try to get as much for as little as I can, and if I miss any, I would just fill in the gaps later) I don't think that volumes 5-6 are that necessary to read to enjoy the other volumes, they mainly explore the aftermath of what happened in volume 4 (which is a great story and would recommend reading volumes 1-4 in order), as well as tying up most lose ends from the blackhole story arc. I will also mention that I would recommend both volumes 7-8 because 8 is another great story and volume 7 sets up some pieces for what is going to happen in 8. Though volume 7 might be slightly confusing initially if you haven't been keeping up with the entire series, and you might be surprised to see a character return and I will just say that their complete return was completely explained in 5 and 6, but will be recapped in volume 7. Next are volumes 9-10. These two story arcs are considered the worst parts of The Flash Rebirth (2016), although I thought they weren't horrible, but they are a step down from story telling from the previous volumes. And most of what happens in there is recapped in upcoming flash volumes when something that relates to it comes up. Volume 11 is optional, you could skip it, but it is the book that leads into The Flash Year One, so if you are interested you could check it out, but there are only a couple panels at the end that lead into The Flash Year One. The last one I would recommend that you could skip is Rogue's Reign. This story explores the effects of what happened after volume 12, and the story is fine, but not necessary to understand much of what happens in volumes 14-15 because most of it was set up during the previous volumes. TL;DR Ones to skip: 5-6,9-10, and 13 Ones to read: 1-4,7-6, 12, and 14-15 Volume 11 is up to you. I hope this all helps. What did you think of Crisis on Infinite Earths?
Thanks! I just bought the first 2 flash omnis and all 3 GL omnis. Can’t wait to get into johns stuff!
As you may have been able to tell, I haven't been too active on this channel as of late, mainly due to this projects I have been having to work on, which has prevented me from getting enough time to put forth my best efforts in any new videos. With summer coming soon, I'll have more time to focus on more stuff that I enjoy, such as create these videos. But either way, by this time you probably have received your omnibus books, and I was curious what you have thought of them. I am still waiting to get The Flash omnibus vol.3 by Geoff Johns, and I have been intrigued by the Green Lantern omnibus books, would you recommend them? I have been starting to branch from The Flash, and am curious where I should branch off to.
This helped me with something I didn't know existed (The Fourth World by John Byrne.) Cheers!
I know, the order of those books got me confused at first since the Fourth World by Jack Kirby ended with New Gods #11, and since I was new to the title, I thought John Byrne's omnibus took place right after it since it starts with New Gods #12. Which I now know is not the case, especially since there are three books that take place between the two omnibus books (not counting events), which is why I wanted to make sure I mentioned it. The reason for Byrne's omnibus starting with #12 is because #1-11 of the renumbered issues of the New Gods title were written by various writers and have not been collected in an form of book format yet. Anyway, I am glad it helped.
I will say that the Bart Allen Flash run (Lightning in a Bottle and Full Throttle) is in print through Eaglemoss In the UK Another Book that's In print through Eaglemoss is Flash Fast Money which takes place between Wild Wests and Flash Rebirth 09
Thanks, I was checking them out, and since I plan to update the reading order videos (Mainly because there will be more books released, and also because I want to improve the quality of the videos), I will mention in, thanks. Do you own any books that you purchased through Eagelmoss? I am curious just to have an idea what the quality of the books are.
@@comixconversation6087 yeah I have Full Throtle and Fast Money through Eaglemoss Storys are underrated, and the paper quality is nice There is a caption error on one page of Fast Money though but it doesnt effect the read much at all.
Plz make a playlist for those reading order
Yeah, thanks for the recommendation. I made a playlist for it! Sorry I didn't get back to you for a while. I have just finished The Flash: The Death of Iris West overview video, so if you get a chance check it out.
Do you read other DC comics?
Yeah I have been reading Jack Kirby's Fourth world omnibus, and I have been planning on continuing with the new gods once I finish the book. I was also planning on starting to read JLA by grant morrison, but I am mainly reading things that tie into the Flash. The reason I started with fourth world is because I heard that it could help readers understand the characters better in Final Crisis, and I was interested in reading some of Jack Kirby's work.
@@comixconversation6087 I started out like you with being intrested in the flash and then reading stuff from other dc characters.
What are some comics that you read now? Are there any that you might want to be reviewed on this channel? At the moment I am working on a review for the flash the death of iris west, but I am trying to see what are videos that are wanted to see by the viewers/
@@comixconversation6087 I still haven't read all of Williamson's run (I have read 9 volumes). I've also picked up trades of dc heroes like nightwing, superman and aquaman. To be honest I would find reviews of all kinds of comics interesting.
Are there any specific TPBs that you would recommend to check out? I was planning on reading All Star Superman since I have heard a lot of good things about it, and I was thinking of checking out some comics of Nightwing.
Thank you for including my suggestions in the video. I would really like to see the death of iris west review
Yeah, no problem, I hope you enjoyed the video. I have recently started the book and it is good. Do you think you will check out the Cheap Graphic Novels website?
@@comixconversation6087 I already have since near mint condition and gem mint are sponsored by them
If you are interested, I have uploaded the Flash the death of iris west review recently. I am now working on the Fourth World by Jack Kirby. The reason for stepping away from the Flash comics is so I can give some background information to readers for who all the characters are in the Final Crisis event when I do a review of that event and all background reading that would help readers get more out of the event. I also have seven other videos that I have started to work on, and I was thinking that I may redo some past Flash reviews, since I feel like I have enough practice with the audio, scripting, and editing to make my reviews of the Flash reviews better. I am also planning on picking up the Flash by Geoff Johns Omnibus Vol.3 so I can review and compare it to other flash books. Let me know if any of this intrigues you, or if there are any other video ideas you think could be good to do (I do also want to mention that I am also coming up with a list of my favorite flash stories, and I am planning on doing a video going over each of my favorite flash stories).
@@comixconversation6087 cool. I read the death of iris west and it was very good. I'm glad I read it. maybe you could do something on the cw show as well
when are you going to post another video
I have been rather busy recently, but I already have a video scripted, I just need to record it, and with the weekend here, I will make it a priority to get it up within the next two days. Especially since you are interested, I will make sure that I get another video out this weekend.
I am curious, but what are something that you would be interested for me to do a video for? I can go into some DC Events, or more into individual books at a time, as well as updates to upcoming flash and dc event books coming out.
@@comixconversation6087 i love your channel especially since you make flash content. I just feel like green lantern gets too much love.
@@comixconversation6087 you could do a review of the death of iris west that you didn't have the time of your first reading order. or maybe react to the flash movie trailer and your thoughts and story to read before it releases.
flash question mark waid vs Geoff johns
I feel like both are really great writers, as well as them writting great runs. You will probably get a lot of recommendations to read both of them, and I agree. If I had to say, I would recommend the flash by mark waid for new readers. I know you would be starting with the flash #62, or something close to that issue, but just reading the entirety of the run is satisfiying to see the growth Wallyhad gone through. But personally for me, I would have yo say that Geoff Johns' run is my favorite of the two. This is just my opinion, and for me, I just really enjoyed his flash run.
Very nice informative video. I need your suggestion on Jeoff John’s Flash omnibus. I am new to Flash, have seen Tv show but didn’t bought any Flash comics. I have seen everyone talk about JJ’s flash omnis. Should I get volume 1 & 2 and flashpoint omni and leave the 3 rd one as they say it’s kinda double dipping? Plus I have both infinite crisis and final crisis omni.
Yeah I would suggest that you get the first two omnibus books of the flash by Geoff Johns, and the flashpoint omnibus (When I made the video, I had not read the flashpoint omnibus, I did read the five issue mini series, but not the 56 tie issues, but now I have finished the omnibus, and in my opinion it was very enjoyable to read, so I would suggest getting it). I also would suggest skipping out on the third geoff johns omnibus, since you would have the flashpoint omnibus, and the final crisis omnibus so you would be double dipping. Even though the third omnibus would collect the issues of the flash from blackest night, I would suggest that you would get the blackest night omnibus instead of the third omnibus since younwould be able to read the entire event.
I also want to say that I am glad you thought it is informative, and that another video is on the way, and I will be going over the different collected edition formats, along with how to save money when purchasing books (since those omnibus prices can be expensive). I hope you enjoy the Geoff Johns run on the flash, since that run is my favorite flash run, and has my favorite flash story blitz. When you get a chance to read it, let me know what you think of it.
@@comixconversation6087 Sure, thank you for the information. I will get the flash omni, flash point and darkest night.
do you think its necessary to read the flash starting at the silver age. I know the answer to that but dose it just add to the experience or not.
During the Silver Age, most of the comics were self contained, and did not really add to any on going story, with some exceptions such as the flash of two worlds introducing the multiverse. I would say that the best place to start would be with Crisis on Infinite Earths, since it rewrites most of the DC Universe and going from there, leading with Savage Velocity for Flash and then having the Flash by Mark Waid following. Although the Silver Age does not really impact comics later on, I do think if you have a chance, read at least some of the stories from the Silver Age, since I think it is interesting seeing the different type of writing style, and in a sense, it does add to the experience seeing the evolution the Flash has gone through from 1956 to Present.
@@comixconversation6087 you mean 1958
btw do you think mark waid will get an omnibus dedicated to his run or is that just in the past. I would also like to know where you get your info so I could do my own digging
With book 8 of the Flash by Mark Waid being released, I think there will be a higher chance that there will be omnibus books released collecting the entire Mark Waid run. I do not think the omnibus books will collect the Flash by Grant Morrison and Mark Miller, but I do hope they release a deluxe hardcover of it. I mainly use Reddit, and general google searches to see if there are any updates for Flash books being released, but is there any specific information you had in mind, so I could answer your question better?
in your reading order part 1 between the flash silver age 3 and death of iris west issues 200-269 are not mentioned. are they collected or even important to the story.
I was thinking of mentioning those issues, but I have not read any of those issues yet since they have not been collected in any type of book format yet, and I am hoping that there will be omnibus books for the bronze age, similar to the silver age, since I am interested in reading the comics from that era. So to answer your questions is that those issues have not been collected in book format yet, and because of that, I have not read them, so I am not sure if they are important.
Great video! Question: which one do you prefer: Flash New 52 or Rebirth? Personally, I haven't read the New 52 run (although it looks like a great series, so I might have to pick it up) but I've read some Rebirth arcs and I've enjoyed them.
I would say that I like Rebirth more. I still think the stories in the New 52 is good, but everything that happens in the beginning, is still relevant 10 volumes later. I like Rebirth, because you are rewarded for reading from start to finish, and you get to see that things that seemed irrelevant in the beginning has an impact later on. I still think the New 52 is good, I do not think it is as good as some of the Flash runs in the past, but I still think it is a good storyline to read for flash readers, whether they are new readers or readers who have been reading the Flash for a while. If you do pick up the Flash New 52, I would suggest getting the Omnibus version, collecting the first four stories, and then the five softcovers, vol. 5-9, since there will most likely be an Omnibus collecting the rest of the New 52, and I think having the stories in Omnibus is good, since the pages are oversized, and since the book is a hardcover, it is more durable and lasts longer.
@@comixconversation6087 Awesome! 👍🏻
Excellent video! By the way, are you planning on getting the newly solicited Flash by Geoff Johns Omnibus Vol. 3?
That book collects Rogues Revenge 1-3, The Flash Blackest Night 1-3, the Flash rebirth 1-6, Flashpoint 1-5, the flash 1-12, and I believe the Flash secret origins #1. Since I have the Final Crisis Omnibus collecting Rogues Revenge, the Blackest Night Omnibus containing the flash blackest night 1-3, and the flashpoint omnibus collecting the entire flashpoint event as well as the 56 tie in issues and the flash 8-12. That just leaves rebirth and the flash 1-7 that is not in omnibus form, and although I really did consider getting it for those 13 issues, I am not planning on getting it. I do wish they did not have The Flash road to flashpoint in the flashpoint omnibus, and just have a deluxe edition hardcover collecting the flash Rebith, the flash the dastardly death of the rogues, and the flash road to flashpoint. Since people could get the flashpoint omnibus, and that deluxe edition hardcover (that I said I wish was a real book that is available), but they won't have to worry about buying issues twice. What about you, do you plan to get the third omnibus?
@@comixconversation6087 Yeah, I think I’m going to get it because I have the two Johns’s Wally West Omnibus, so I really want to complete the set.
Awesome video!
Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed it! Did you get a chance to check out the google document? Also, do you feel like anything should be added to the first part of the reading order (As more books are released, I plan to update this reading order)?
@@comixconversation6087 Yeah, I checked out the document and it was pretty solid! Excellent job
Nice video! By the way, what is your favorite Flash run of all time?
Thanks! Now for me, that comes down to two Flash runs, the run by Mark Waid and the run by Geoff Johns (The one where Wally West is the Flash). I feel Mark Waid has so many iconic Flash stories, and laid the ground work for the Flash becoming such a great character, but Geoff Johns just builds on what Mark Waid did. I am kind of stuck between the two, but if I had to say, I would say the Flash by Geoff Johns is my favorite, because I really enjoyed that run. Are you a new reader, or have you been reading the Flash stories for a while, and which is your favorite flash run? Also, how have you been enjoying my videos (do you think they are helpful)? One last thing I want to mention, is that I am going to be uploading the second part of the Flash run by Joshua Williamson, and then this Friday, I will be uploading part 1 of the Flash reading order.
@@comixconversation6087 I haven’t read Waid’s run but Geoff Johns’s was AMAZING. It has my favorite Flash story of all time: Rogue War. He made Zoom one of my favorite DC villains. I really enjoy your videos, man. Keep it up!
Thanks! I do plan on doing overviews of the other Flash runs I have not gone over yet, after the three Flash reading order videos, but are there any books in particular that you would like to see gone over as a separate video?
@@comixconversation6087 I think you are doing an excellent job on introducing new people to the Flash comic book continuity. I also think it would be fun to do a “Top 10 Flash stories” or “My Favorite Flash comic books” or something like that, so that you can take a closer look at specific story arcs that you enjoy.
Sorry for the late response, I was working on the script for the first part video of the reading order series. That is something that I will end up doing, because I do think it can help others with know what are some enjoyed Flash stories. Thanks for the suggestion!
