I prefer the EVO2 but I'm surprised that there is not more difference. I was already suspicious about the social media resonance against the V8. It's good for what it is intended to be. I might change mine for a railhammer, but that's only because I need something entirely different than both of these.
i think this videos audio was not quite clear or something. my RG520 had v7/v8 pickups from factory that i swapped out for a mo joe bridge and paf joe neck set a few years after i bought it and it made quite a bit more of a noticeable improvement than this video sounds like. and this p/u is an evo2 even more output than a mo joe. something isn't right here with this video lol
The I've been there sounded really good but clearly the Evo ice a clarity to it that the V8 does not. When saturation is on the pickups, the V8 sounds a tiny bit thin even though it's a humbucker where the Evo has all the tone and handles the breakup. Just a tad better. What a great video though. What a great comparison. Probably the best I've seen on UA-cam
The Evo2 has more output and more bass, great for lead melody as in the last track. The V8 is brighter and kicks effin A' in the Scorpions riff. But still, most of the sound comes out of the player's fingers. I bet Hetfield would still sound like Hetfield with the V8. This is what I find most inspiring about this video: Instead of buying new pickups I now want to hone my technique such that I can get out the best sound possible out if my V7/S1/V8 combo. And probably upgrade my amp for the money I would otherwise have spent on new pickups.
Hello everyone I bought an ibanez rg 565 genesis and I want to change the bridge v 8 to Dimarzio Imperium! Please tell me if I should change it to imperium? Thank you friends....
The Ibanez V8 is a great pickup in RG570, RG550, RG1550, & RG1570 guitars. It has a nice tonal balance in those guitar models. Adjusting the pickups' height relative to the strings can make a big difference in its sound and output level. So, try adjusting its height if it doesn't sound right. If you want a pickup with a more brutal/saturated tone then go for a high output ceramic magnet pickup like DiMarzio D Activator or X2N.
I still have the original pickups in my RG470 which has the V8 in the bridge. I loved the sound at 18 but at 47, it lacks a solid tone. When you play notes, it sounds so thin. If you play a power chord it lacks a full kind of tone. The V8 is just lacking no matter what amp you use or pedal.
What you guys think about V2,S1,V1? I buy on internet cheap Ibanez grg 270. I buy him because i saw he don't have fabrics humbuckers. Someone put old V2,S1,V1 and sounds great! I think they put originally in rg550
They have very different responses, the V8 goes awesome for metal riffs but it has certain lack of power and sustain in lead melodies. The evo 2 is quite the opposite, I don't like it for riffs but has lot more clarity, and power in solos. Maybe a height adjustment will compensate their pro and cons
Something like this is so hard to tell over a video just use what ever sounds good to you as a player, I own an RG550 with the V8 and V7 pickups and my friend bought a set to put in his 450 and his guitar sounds completely different, it has more of a tinny sound and I'm not sure why cause they are they same pickups and maybe it's just me.
I think the Ibanez is more nutty, with hints of blackberries and dates, while the Evo2 clearly has grown on a southern facing limerich soil and display notes of sunflower and olives.
It's kind of not fair, The V8's sound a lot deeper and distorted than the DiMarzio's. Both south beautiful. The DiMarzio's are clearer and less distorted sounding and the V8's are fuzzier and distorted sounding. You can adjust either to sound the same by tweeking your amp or just buy which ever one you want at that time. I personally like both of them, but because I love 25 watt greenbacks I would choose the V8's only because of that reason. But, the dDiMarzio's are much clearer and bell like sounding. They are one of the best pick ups out there still.
Amongst all the Dimarzio Pickups I have tried, for a Basswood Body Guitar Breed Bridge with a Paf Pro/ Paf Joe works magic...from crunchy tight rythm to Clean to slash like neck pickup lead tone.... Evo2 is much less harsh then Evo bridge and is sounds nice. For Ibanez RG & S series petrucci Crunch Lab & Illuminator pickups works awesome with their respective neck picks ups or Paf Pro...Fred & Moe Joe is excellent. ..... Basswood body has a flat response so treble pickups are a buzzkill, rounder the better. Ibanez V1 V2 are better V7 V8 lacks clarity, a little magnet swap does improve tone. Ibanez should match pickups to wood in their models....most pickups coming stock eventually needs to be swapped. Mahagony Body with flame top & Alder Body can accommodate pickups with Strong Personality
Khondker Rifat Hossain i have an old ibanez rg 770 with ibz/USA F4&F2,i want to replace them ,what about darkmettet 2?could them feat the old ibanez?thank you!
Not better, not worse. Different. The EVO has more top end. The good news is if there is more up there you can use it, or you can eq it out if it's not your thing. The bad news is if you're not careful that top end can be like an icepick to the forehead.
The V8 sounds better for chugging and chords with tonnes of gain, but if single-note definition is an order, the EVOs have the upper hand. Surprisingly this was not apparent in the clean demos at the start since the EVOs had an extreme bass response to the wound strings.
people in the comments must be deaf or biased towards their own pickups cos the Evo sounds much much better to me. Another comment said the V8 sounds lo-fi and it was exactly what i was thinking. you could 100% pick out the Evo in a blind test. Just much better quality.
The V8 as with most of Ibanez pickups are basically Ibanez made Dimarzio pickups... started in the days when they began RG production and put IBZ-USA pickups on their upper models eg RG750... horses for courses of course... but still a killer pickup IMHO :-)
People have to realize some important things about this demo. First it was recorded using a line 6 Pod, the differences are way less obvious on modelers. A real amp would've been better. And 2, I have this exact guitar with the same pickups. Although they aren't bad they are pretty lacking when it comes to output . They're quiet and need a lot of gain to get them saturated. So for more of a modern metal sound or better dynamics you gotta upgrade them . The stock pickups really aren't any better than other stock pickups . They're kind of muddy and weak .
This video proves one thing that I already knew. Just how good the V8 pickup is. In my opinion it is one of the best stock aftermarket (although made by DiMarzio) pickups out there. I love them. As far as which pickup is best in this video or any comparison video, it is all really very subjective. It just depends on what your ears like for whatever guitar you have it in and whatever amp you are playing through. Happy tone chasing!

EVO is fuzzier

I like turtles
Got the RG1550 and put the EVO2 and goin got reinstall the V8s back in. The V8 sounds brighter
Best Pick Up comparation video in youtube
Las pickups V7 V8 son vintage, no se puede comparar con las Evo

The Evo 2 is better. I'm not a big fan of the original Evo. This model is a bit more refined, easier to manage.
v8 is way better!

both sound similar, perhaps the EVO2 sounds "tighter" for my ears

good comparison video. I think I was underestimating the V8 pickups.
The dimarzio has more low end and higher out put but I think the V8 has better clarity.
V8 for rhythm, EVO 2 for lead.
awsome cover man !! do you have a guitar pro for this song ? or do you know where i can find it ? keep it up bro :)
Thank you! No, sorry, I learned it by ear :)
@@VeradoPL oh okay i'm trying to learn it by ear to but the solo part i just cant ear all the notes ahah kinda hard
There's not much difference to be honest. Definitely not 100+ buck difference
Good video for us that own Ibanez. I have a rg 550 and thinking to change the pick ups but I don't know which because I cannot compare them to others.
Evo sounds better

Clean the DiMarzio sounds more full bodied. Distorted there's next to no difference.
The v8 is warmer and the evo2 has more definition and clarity.
geez enough with the metallica riffs, SMH
I think the Ibanez is more nutty, with hints of blackberries and dates, while the Evo2 clearly has grown on a southern facing limerich soil and display notes of sunflower and olives.
🧉😝🍷
I was going to say that.....but you beat me to it.
lol thank you for that comment.
I was going to disagree with you, But after swishing the pickup around in my mouth a second time you are spot on.
😂😂😂
Man the evo sounds so much better ,, sweeter better clarity ,, I wonder if the evo 2 is ceramic
I guess. The normal Evolution is ceramic.

di marzio has that color that i feel is kinda artificial.
8:02 ‘appetite for destruction’ sounds way better with IBZ V8 than Evo2. 😮

where does the last melody played come from?

IDK, I think anything going though a pod farm is going to sound pretty much the same.

I really don't hear much difference in the pickups. I will just keep my Ibanez pups in my guitar and save the money.
Daniel Hartman he's using a line 6 pod . You shouldn't expect a major difference . An actual amp would shoe better results
Yeahhh...no need to spend more money for a small difference.
V8 feel way better than any dimarzio for me.
Me too...i like v7 and v8s better

Ibanez V8 is made by Ibanez, not dimarzio bro
@@pilotamurorei actually, they were designed by DiMarzio.
The pickups of the V line are designed specifically for ibanez by Dimarzio engineers
no comparison Evo's all the way
Piekne
V8 are rock and evo2 is metal
crowzero292 zero292 I can see that
Evo all the way ! V8 is for big gays !!!!
And you are a big twatt !
So this is a compliment to V8 owners? It's not 1980 any more. .. being gay hasn't been considered insulting to anyone with half a brain since grade 3.
Both pickups sounds good ... DiMarzio has moore output ... pod isnt good for test this ... need all tube head :-)
Hell yes brother!!😮😮😮😊😊😊
V8 more mid focused, with less articulation, but not entirely bad.
N'importe-quoi MichMich...
I have an RG1570 with a V8 in the bridge, I was going to change it but after this I don't think it's worth doing. Thanks :)
I have RG550 and i was change V8 with dimarzio Norton and all I got was higher output and little more midle. It's not worth changing!
The V8 i tried was a lot like a tone zone with less bass.
GMC Phil i have a rg1570 and i change the neck mic to a di marzio evo , that's very cool
@Lucifer Satan The magnet in the V8 is an alnico V, did you end up swapping the magnet to something else?
V8 seems great on solos, but I prefer the Dimarzio Tonezone in a basswood rg style guitar.
Thank you uploading this video.
evo2 is better, but not by far
