Same,I struggled to the point where I ended up re doing my stats for a shield and messmers spear but that still took me over 60 attempts to beat him as I was running a magic build with the dark moon greatsword before that,took me about 10 hours to beat the guy,the last time I used a shield was dark souls 1 and now years later again

Yes it came with both the ps5 and ps4 versions of the game and dlc on the ps5 physical,the ps4 physical doesn't come with the upgrade as that's a seperate purchase

Not sure about the day one update as when I put the disc in the install it didn't have any updates but I could be wrong and just missed it

You can unlock him by playing the faction wars mode,it's usually the 4th or 5th stage that will have him,sometimes you won't get him on the first run-through but only the second,once you beat the faction bosses in a 4vs4 tag match then you are able to buy them with credits you earn in faction wars only
