An amazing town, straight out of a fairy tale... and with history and romance to boot. Definitely rated high on my list, and a place I'd love to return to.

The end of my time in Egypt! A last day wandering around Cairo, then off on the plane the next morning. Farewell, Gift of the Nile!

A quick trip to Darshur! This is home to the Bent Pyramid, the Red Pyramid and the Black Pyramid, and we visited two of them. We also went to Memphis, the old capital of Egypt, to the open air museum full of interesting pieces, like a giant statue of Rameses the Great, and the second largest Sphinx in Egypt.

Featuring the famous Step Pyramid of King Djoser, designed by Imhotep, plus a few others, including; -The Tomb of King Unas, with the first funerary texts, -The Tomb of Idut, full of scenes of everyday life, -The Tomb of the "Two Brothers", -and a short VIP tour to a tomb not usually open to the public!

The Temple of Amun at Wadi es-Sebua, built by Rameses the Great at a trade crossroads on the way to Nubia. Roughly made with local stone and labour, it nevertheless contains some interesting findings. For example, while he was careful in his depictions in the capital, here he depicts himself as a god, something that would not have gone over well with the priests at Karnak... Another amazing pie...
