Some of the Bekonscot chaps went to see the 10.25" gauge miniature railway at Knebworth. It was an enthusiasts open evening in June 2009. This is the 0-6-0 steam loco hauling up the grade from the loco sheds to the station, with "Jungle Express" formerly of Paignton Zoo behind it for assistance. We had some buildings at Bekonscot Model Village in Bucks that needed to be moved around the site, which were being stored by one of the staff. First time seeing this since the 50s when I lived In Beaconsfield in London Rd. Glad to see it's still going.
I fell off that first bridge when I was 5 ( no high sides then ) and got track oil on my “ Lego builders club “ t shirt in 1977. Still love trains !

This popped up in my recommendations feed. I'm so glad it did, this was my favourite place to visit as a child and every child that reacted with joy and excitement at the sight of the trains going by was exactly how I reacted. Now I'm 31 and hope to some day soon have children of my own to bring to this timeless place. Thank you for this nostalgia trip.

I used to love visiting this place as a child, but was always tantalised by the 'behind the scenes' parts of the operation that we couldn't see, and moreover had a suspicion that behind the peripheral hedges were many more miles of miniture track and a whole other secret wonderful world.
The trains are built to a slightly smaller sacle than the buildings and the people. If you look closely at the people waiting on the platform you'll see that they look a little large next to the trains. When you come back next year and see exactly the same people still waiting, that's because they're waiting for a train that's big enough for them to get into.
