It’s a shame Nickelodeon didn’t continue this show. It could have worked for at least a few seasons. It probably wouldn’t have been as big as later nicktoons, but it did have potential.

I remember watching this, I didnt know it was a pilot for a possible series. The same year there was a kid/teen show called Way Cool that was on another network but there's not much info about it online.

My memory (which may be incorrect) is that this originally aired around Thanksgiving in 1987 or 1988. I was 10 and weirded out by it, lol. Looking at it now I find it kind of amazing that the guy who made a nearly X-rated cartoon was hired to do a kids' special for Nickelodeon. It's got a really strange vibe, sort of like a rough draft of Cool World. Odd characters and animation. Awesome that Keith David is in it though.

Originally the series was to be picked up in 1989 for 39 episodes, but after a controversy involving an episode from Bakshi's other series Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, the project was abandoned. Nickelodeon renamed the pilot Christmas in Tattertown and aired it annually as a special until 1992. Bakshi has retained rights to the pilot and in an interview on his official website conducted on August 2, 2007, he confirmed a DVD release, however, no such release has happened. In 1995, the special locally aired on WGNT (UPN affiliate) under the title A Tattertown Christmas alongside the Rocko's Modern Life Christmas special "Rocko's Modern Christmas!"

Is this a slightly earlier edit? The other copy on here that aired on The Splat, and on Nickelodeon back in the day, has some differences to it, mainly in the video editing department, as well as the Nickelodeon Turkey at the end.
