Sarnia Lambton History Rocks - c 1967 Grand Bend Dragway
Переглядів 3532 роки тому
GRAND GRAND OPENING The second grand opening was August 9th, 1964 with Ontario Highways minister Charles McNaughton and 6,000 fans. This was fitting, says Warner, “A sanctioned, safe drag strip is a sure fire way to significantly reduce dragging on public thoroughfares.” Speed, he says, “the moment man invented the wheel, men and ladies too have sought ways to make it go faster.” It was a longe...

CMHC 21% now that's some nostalgia . PET at Centennial Park during a Coup. Marget and her Black Eye. Oh the memories. Great Video
This is a horribly edited video. 👎
What a great collection of memories. Thank you for sharing.
My grandfather worked at Imperial Oil and was loaned to Polymer to Open Polymer Pilot Plant Number 1
Thanks Kip I remember the Carlsberg Kliesdales were just huge. Getting our bike's ready for the bike parade was a huge deal. Every kid in Sarnia that had a bike had to have entered. Watch out for those RR tracks on Front Street they are killers.
Oh yeah. I got my wheels caught in them once or twice myself, Dave. How did kids survive back then. Lol
This was a bit before my time, but I love seeing videos like this.
This is my home town, the Chipican was just up the road from my parents home by Canatara.
It wasn't Jeremy Seymour it was Robin Seymour....says so in the opening credits.
At 0:38 isn't that a 52 Buick?
the music is hilarious in this
is that kip on vocals?
I walk the dog under both bridges every morning. These bridges are just awesome!!!! So much history involved. The second span opened in 1997 Traffic never improved though😢
Thanks Kip
Yaaaaaaaawn.
Wow, back when this hell hole was somewhat interesting..
cool
Can I contact you via email about this videos?
Beautiful city to grow up in. Sarnia girls were the prettiest. Regrettably, most of my family that were born and raised in Sarnia have all died of cancer. I was lucky. I lived there from age 10 to 18 and I never wished to go back.
These were the junior teams. The scum from the North had black jerseys for the senior team.
So fun to see what Sarnia used to be back in the day and how much it has changed since lol! it was weird seeing only one bridge to the US lol! i remember watching the second span being built, but to see it before that was even a thing is just great lol! The good ole days lol.
Thanks Kip, still working there today
I was just up on shere16 last week replacing the wind sock
7:40 - didn't know weird al was a bridge engineer back in the mid 90s.
My Dad ran the kitchen at the holiday inn in the late 70s before moving to Barrie.
Omg. I remember playing on that cement ship. And swimming off that dock in about 1987. By this time there were rotting fish floating around, trash and even further down we would swim near the sewage pipe. No shit, there was actually shit floating around in the water back then. I remember this floating restaurant they had at one point and we would hear the toilet flush and yes it went right in the water. They were charged after that at some point and it was shut down. Alot of fun memories but wow I look back and realize how polluted this water was. I'm surprised I'm not dead . Lmfao
Don't eat the brown acid ! Repeat - do not eat the brown acid !!
Canatara Park was my defacto back yard. Other good times I remember was the Brigden Fair and took a helicopter ride in a Bell 47 (helicopters you see in MASH) with my brother. My dad paid $10 for us both. First time I flew in anything and now I've been all over the world. Thanks dad !
I can almost smell the summer time urine stink at the cement tug boat and steel light house. Sarnia's kiddie toilet. The Kings singing Switching To Glide "...I gotta get out of the hole..." Rings solid for me.
Quite a feat of engineering. Built before most major highways were finished on both sides of the boarder. Thanks for showing !
Respect to the folks who built this tunnel! I'm a foundation drill rig operator for 13 years and I know this is an epic project!
I remember it all. 1980 i was ten. The blue slide!!!. Tobogganing on the big hill at that park.
Great
Does anyone remember a Pearl Remington?
Lazy council
It's crazy to me to think my grandfather is somewhere in this video
I lived in Sarnia for years. I miss the beauty of the area but we had to leave because my husband needed work and just couldn't find it. And I ended up in Toronto the ugly. I miss Sonia all the time and wish things could have been different, my son was born there. If I won the lottery today I would go back to Sarnia and buy a place there or Brights Grove or one of those areas but somewhere along there around Sarnia. I miss Sarnia and the memories.
For the city staff sitting behind the Councillors and in the centre, is there only one who is still working fir the city? It looks like the others are all gone.
To the creator of this video: You put a lot of hard work into this video. It is entertaining to watch and not an easy video to do. You obviously have a talent for this kind of work. Keep doing what you are good at.
This is the City of Sarnia Council elected October 2018.

These are awesome Mark and Kip!!!
What was this for?
Great video
The Coca-Cola sign was where the bowling alley was before it got torched in '04. Now it will be the site of the new motel.
I can't believe how much has changed in 20 years on the waterfront!
