Little bit of "truth serum"! Blocks don't lie mi amigo!!

3-4 very light coats. Total wet film thickness is 4-5 mils and dries about 1/2 of that. AlwGrip is a very durable coating!

I block my sealer coat with 320 and blend with 320 or 220 on an interface pad. Right now using 3M Gold. Just because it is available. I don't have a favorite. I use whatever works!

@ 3M gold is money, nice powder without clogging up got who knows how many $$$ in the shop abrasives. Maybe it’s a cursed life but sure is rewarding in the end

Might sound corny.. I have felt a connection to the craftsman that created this form. I was sanding the high build on the pilaster and could imagine the man who created that shape patting me on the back and saying, "That is exactly how it should have been done!"

@@vernesecustoms the only thing done on my boat is the paint the hull is bare. I’ve only painted the back of the transom so far the whole inside of the boat gutted down to the woven.

YOU are not building a piano... I practice at a high level. Some of my work is art. Most, more valuable than a piano. If "mix and go" works for you, stay at that level.

Yes Sir! The paint application is fairly "easy" compared to the amount work prior to pulling the trigger. Most of the hardware and components we removed are being updated so it makes since to get them out of the way before finishing. Thanks for watching!!

This is only the 2nd 31 I have worked on. The first was only minor electrical repairs. I have been working on this Bertram 31 on and off since 2016. I will eventually do some videos of the older projects.

Both resins and gelcoats should be mixed by weight. Polyester resin generally needs 1% MEKP, and gelcoat should be catalyzed around 2% MEKP. There is no golden rule or set ratio. You have to experiment with the materials that you have on hand and adjust as needed.
