Sprayed. I have seen some good rolled paint jobs. There is really no comparison. Each coat we apply melts into the last and draws the clear to the surface. This will get blocked out and the final will be done in AwlGrip HDT

Yes, that is straight out of the gun! I believe we did 3 coats. Chaging our process a bit. This will get 320 grit and 3 more medium coats for the final finish.

Oh.. and standard air compressor.. nothing fancy.

I actually find it therapeutic! 😅 I am using AlexSeal fairing compound with Fast Hardener. I get about 30 minutes to work it. Can come back and pull more over it if needed in about 1 hour. I see a lot of "professionals" slap it on and sand it off. Not my thing. Tight wipes, block it out next day.

You are correct! All resins and gelcoats have different weights. We are taught to "catalyze by weight" not by volume.

In mold or post finish application? I have never tried fast acrylic thinner in gelcoat. My understanding is that Duratec is not a gelcoat. It is an addittive. Some type of acrylic enamel blend that is activated with MEKP. I would start with styrene, upto 4-5% and increase the size of the nozzle orifice for in mold application. Use a dump gun or something similar like a spray bed liner gun.

I must admit, we scrapped a few ideas and features as it began to take shape!

I work with Vinylester and on rare occasions epoxy. I recommend you work with what you have available and fits your budget.

Sometimes, I use the same technique. I have developed better techniques that don't require "stabbing the fiberglass". I will explain where that comes from and show more techniques when I have time. Watch the Bertram build on my channel. When I finish the Bertram, I plan to crank out a bunch of videos!!
