Many people know about brightening catchlights, but did you know about darkening pupils? And how can you get rid of areas that call too much attention? In the Art of Bird Photography, Episode 9, I'll explain some of this stuff. I will be using the open-source editor Darktable, but these edits can be done in any Raw editor that has masks such as Capture One Pro or DxO PhotoLab.

In this Sooty Tyrannulet shot, I noticed some odd things in the background, such as the strange bokeh that PF lenses like the Nikon 500mm f/5.6 PF lens occasionally create. Luckily, darktable has a lens blur tool that can help you with that. I'll also show you some other burn and dodging techniques to help make backgrounds better also.
