So how big is a nurdle?
The answer: not big, but this plastic item can be a big problem when looking at its impact on the environment.
Today's show looks at how Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper is trying to understand nurdles, how we train volunteers to look for them and how having the information about what's out there helps us in our advocacy efforts. The guest today is Elizabeth Cute, senior program manager at Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper.

Good 😊😊
Wonderful work!!!!
Fantastic video and commentary which have taught me so much about my hometown. Keep up the great work. We all (people and nature) deserve beautiful, healthy environments.
I thought hardened shorelines were not good?
We, too, are happier with softer, greener, living shorelines! Unfortunately, we have tried that approach in a few different ways over the last couple of years at Higgins Park and it has still sustained too much ice and wind damage because of its position. These rocks will help prevent erosion and ensure we can all enjoy the peninsula for years to come.
@@buffaloniagarawaterkeeper5616 makes sense! Out of curiosity are there any records of what the shorelines were like prior to all the industrialization?
@@c.j.taylor7325 There are written records and some illustrations to show that. Going back that far, the Buffalo River did not exist pre-industrialization. The area was a shallow marshland fed by Buffalo Creek and was only deep enough to travel via canoe. The Buffalo River as we know it today was created by digging out the marsh area to allow for development of the area. The link below has some information, and other local historical sites have more details. The Buffalo River has gone through a lot of changes over the years. buffaloblueway.com/flo-through-history-on-the-buffalo-blueway/
@@buffaloniagarawaterkeeper5616 that's really interesting thanks for taking the time to reply
Why do by like it and I like it and you have to plead the you have to clean the Earth
Excellent News!!
Nice design. And by the way acrylic varnish is only water-soluble as long as it is wet. Once it has dried, it is absolutely waterproof.
Thx
Nice
I Love this Video!! and not just because I'm Claudia's Dad!
That's a pretty cool design! I can't believe you did that all with a brush. :-0 I was actually looking for info on whether or not oil paint will stick to the blue HDPE barrels. You wouldn't happen to know, would you?
Thank you to all the participants for that great presentation. I live in the Lake Ontario Watershed. I am researching golf course BMP's for reducing pesticide runoff into our lakes. Some of the strategies mentioned in your presentation should help. What are the best management practices for golf courses to balance pesticide use, watershed protection, and turf management? Would someone from BN Waterkeeper be able to recommend resources for me to further my research?
Hi Jane, Could you please send an email to eroot@bnwaterkeeper.org with your questions?

Get excited! The live stream begins shortly!
I saw a mink in Youngstown this week too!
In my neighborhood, s. of Buf, there are 3 old dams that impede fish migrations on smallish creeks. A few hours with a heavy machine could remedy all of them. Do you have a policy/program for dams?
Hi Clay, thanks for your question. If you can send an email to shakim@bnriverkeeper.org we will pass your question along to the proper contacts. Thanks - BNR
