Would a normal bed mattress fit in the back of it ?
Maybe, depending on what you build for furniture. the width between the wheel wells is 117cm, width above or in front of the wells 155. Length of cargo space is 225cm.

the desgin is a disgrace. the bottom was done on spindle moulder, no chisel involved.

Nice. I would say regarding the BC wildlife. You dont really want to be seeing a bear, and also be aware of the cougar / mountain lions, which have attacked humans in BC, and also wolfs. Dusk into night being a dicey time, and lastly coyote packs. Be safe.
