    Nice explanation of formants. Also, the *vibratto* is very obvious in spectrogram. Like... that +-30ct of +- 40 ct of deflection form average frequency is wild! Humans love imperfection. (UPDATE: typos corrected)

    When I was an alto, we had chest voice and head voice. I think this is the same as full voice and some kind of falsetto! The lontano sounds better than straight falsetto. I hated the alto parts because they were frequently lurking around that E-F4 where the break is. That is why I feel more comfortable singing tenor.

    Hi! Question about studying with a Soprano teacher as a Baritone who struggles matching pitch. My teacher is great, but I wonder if it would be more beneficial to study with a teacher with a lower voice type in my situation as she can only demonstrate so much vocally for me, and I struggle with pitch and deciphering what octave/part of my voice I should be singing in can be a challenge. She does try to describe it to me the best she can/plays the notes down the octave, but I am still not sure if I should be singing low, middle, high in my range etc. Further, I notice sometimes in some of your other videos that it sounds like you play the treble clef version of the note on a staff (example G4) on the piano and demonstrate it as more of like a falsetto note for male voice, and then sometimes you play the same treble staff note on the piano, but sing instead an octave lower in a fuller voice. Do you play them interchangably when teaching baritone voices? How do I interpret what octave I am singing in when looking at sheet music when it is written in treble clef? Is it an octave lower? Would it be at the bottom, middle, or falsetto part of my range? Just asking because I can hear the difference, but I can't translate it to my voice when singing, and though my teacher is doing what she can, I want to make sure there is no confusion on my end because of the difference in voice type etc. Any insight would be super helpful, thank you!

    You quoted Richard Miller. But you do the opposite to what he says. At 50: 21 in the link of Miller in a Masterclass, he starts to talk about support and then shows what you say to do but tells the lady she shouldn't do. AT 50:55 he starts by saying, "Don't pull in at all". Then demonstrates not to do what you say. Appoggiare means to "lean" more than "support". There is a lean that occurs when the sound is activated with the Diaphragm while singing. It causes an open free gesture. Not a collapsed gesture that goes with the expulsive action of the abdominal or expiratory muscles. The Abdominals should not activate while singing. The lean is on the Diaphragm not the larynx or voice. You quoted Miller in the beginning of your video, but you did not understand what he said. There is a feeling when you hold the breath (not with the larynx) and maintain that hold. This is the "equilibrium". This feeling is what you sing on. This hold feeling. As you sing the Diaphragm is engaged and you feel a lean. Which sounds weird because the Diaphragm is a muscle of inspiration only. But this is what happens when we sing and support correctly. ua-cam.com/video/nLRwCT0e8A0/v-deo.html

      @joshualindsayvoicestudio6022 Місяць тому

      Thanks for your interesting point of view. I would have to respectfully disagree on some of your points. 1. I agree with Richard Miller that you shouldn't pull in. What I am saying is that there should be a juxtaposition...Neither pulling in, nor pushing out. 2. There is definitely increased abdominal muscle activity. Richard Miller: " In deep inspiration, as in preparation for singing, the diaphragm , and the thoracic and abdominal muscles increase their activity." 3. I agree with the sensation of the equilibrium. Could you please make a video on how you breathe so I can understand more fully your approach?

    • @RadamesAida2Operalovers
      @RadamesAida2Operalovers Місяць тому

      @@joshualindsayvoicestudio6022 No problem. Just trying to point out What I see Lamperti is saying via Miller. I do not dismiss your process as it is used by many. I feel I do not have adequate scientific information to question certain methods of support to make a video. Especially as many singers can say they do different things. Great singers like Ruffo and Ponselle advocated pushing out while singing. Some say hold. Some say pull in. All have some possible merits. I prefer something on a an initial lean and a sustained hold. I can see how the lower abdominal activation can come into play. In the end it is about how the function is affected and the sound produced. I do like your exercises from 9 mins onwards. I will give them a try. I might do a video in the future. Breathing and support is complicated. I am always scared not to say the wrong thing. Otherwise, we do more damage than good. It is always in the back of the mind as support is very important in singing. I think there is a lot of confusion on the subject.

I have problems with Brown eyed girl. One note. "YOUUU my" it's a g4 to E4 to D4. I decided do this falsetto and jump back into chest around the E or D. But sometimes the falsetto isnt "ready". Lots of musos struggle with this very simple tune...one f$%%% note!!

    Lontano is thought of as mixed voice, voix mixte in vocal training and it is an absolute must for professional opera singers to understand. Resonance is also an even bigger factor. A helden tenor, baritone or bass (with a much larger larynx and vocal fold mass, and sinus cavity, etc) can sing with more mix than a singer with a lyric operatic voice and achieve more volume (exponential volume in decimals - they can be twice as loud in decimals based on physical build alone than a lighter voice pushing out full voice and the lighter voice will have little chance of ringing volume over any Wagnerian). Generally, opera tenors and baritones understand that full voice causes more fatigue if it is full and pushed for more volume to create more decimals than the voice is naturally 'built' for and singing for hours. Many Broadway and Metropolitan opera tenor singers have not had long careers trying to use full cord mass to be louder. Understanding voix mixte and resonance is the key to professional singing.
