I was hesitant to record the worlds' most familiar tune, but Jeff talked me into it. This arrangement developed organically on gigs. It's played as a bolero with form and dynamic changes while remaining danceable.

A duet with Cuban master Carlitos Medrano, improvising on a 'son' with piano and congas. A very happy interaction. You can practice your Salsa. Available on Bandcamp: neiladler.bandcamp.com/album/emis-song-2

After I wrote this aggressive pentatonic tribute to McCoy Tyner, I never thought I'd find a band that could make it groove. Jeff Buenz and Akira Tana brought their deep musicality onto this quicky rehearsed AfroCuban 9/8 and gave it soul.

Hey, Neil, still working on the Bossa beat! lol

Florianópolis - Brasil
I was in Florianopolis, the european influenced south of Brazil.
🎉🎉From Italy
Congrats!
Great to hear a sample of Neil Adler's version of Besame Mucho on this, courtesy of KCSM's Chris Cortez. I played Andy Bey and the Bey Sisters version of that for a friend recently.
What about the drop test? The ET12 looks like a raw egg. Somehow the CX12 seems less fragile. There must be some justification for the cost difference.
You're hired!
Tell Russ or Bob
thanks Daria. This arrangement grew organically out of things. Tried on gigs. I like the concise but varied changes
Fabulous! Love this arrangement!
i don’t think other materials will work. Seydel will send parts anywhere .
Very helpful! - thank you I have problem with my valve, can I replace the valve/wind saver using a piece of paper? Because the valve/wind saver is not available in my country
Nice job, Neil!!!
Wow, the third harmonica was really very nice.
Tico Tico!! Excellent!!
Sounding great! Ha! That blurry harpist could very well be Toots 🤣 I thought Miles composed that one…
Chromatic Harmonica uses wood and has higher quality reeds.
Very nice!

Nikakvu prednost nema melodika nad usnom harmonikom. Zato dosta sviram tremolo i ponekad diatonke.
Love the music and the photos. All give evidence that you all were having a great time! Thanks for sharing!
I love it Neil!
Sounds good to me!
BRAVO Neil !
Really sweet, Neil. Fantastic mix and I love the photo montage too...
Mr. Adler, thank you for your kind sharing your experience and expertise. Extremely valuable advice, and easy to understand and apply.
👏👏👏👏👏✌️
Thanks Neil for that great tutorial , have had a Hohner 270 in my bag for a long while now and have always been intimidated by it. 😅 Think Ill pull it out and give it another blow
My Czech not so good.
I tried translation, but it didnt work well. My main point is that the chromatic harmonica is easier to add expression than the melodica. Any instument can be played well by advanced musicians, but the melodia is difficult to add vibrato, tonal changes, slurs, embellishements. Regards, Neil
i got a question, this song here ua-cam.com/video/d5AfvOk57bE/v-deo.html has this melodica or harmonica type of sound, i was trying to see if you can identify it, its at 0:27 seconds
Well if you play the melodica inexpressively (no vibrato or dynamics), it is less expressive. You're right about that. BTW your own count was 4 to 4... But: in music, expression is everything. The harmonica is a far more expressive instrument. But infinitely more difficult to play.
Great performance - I was thinking about getting a midi foot controller for bases, as I also play with one hand on the harp and the other comping on the Piano, but now I don't need to think about it anymore as I see you in full control - wonderful gig! Cheers
is this g48 suzuki ?
Actually a Seydel Symphony 48. Check the entire demo here: ua-cam.com/video/FqEZikWBkCA/v-deo.htmlsi=4U1ynvEPu3cSSovJ
Thanks for the good advice. A few days ago, a valve fell off while I was cleaning the valves. Instead of replacing it or regluing it, I just left if off. That reed (sixth hole), plays fine without the valve. Maybe sometimes I'll replace it...maybe.
Careful, as the valve on that top, outside F#, also affects that chambers' F draw.
Thanks. So far no influence that I can hear. Still, I'll probably replace it soon. I need the practice.
Thanks for the intro. A valve just fell off my Seydel Symphony 48 and I'm just about to jump into the hot water.
Melodicnas are also easier to play. I play piano and got tired with the harmonica because of the learning curve. With the melodica i can have a similar sound using piano keys so thats great.
I don't play piano but same. It's same valved reeds and sounds same so I got melodica to easier play songs on keys instead of trying to pucker blow and muscle memory the holes of harmonica. It's going far better and I actually love the melodica as an instrument of its own now.
Yes. Not addressed. Melodica-easy, Chromatic-difficult.
Which does your early onset dementia prefer? 😂
That was great! However one question that was my main reason for watching this that wasn't addressed was; time and effort to learn- meaning if you already play diatonic harmonica as well as basic piano/keyboard, is it worth the time and effort in learning how to play the chromatic harmonica so that you can can play non diatonic music on it, or just get a melodica and be able to play music on it basically instantly?
Both should be easy if you already play keyboards and diatonic harmonica. It takes some effort to learn when you use the bar effectively on the Chromatic, but if you have already mastered keyboards, the Melodica is relatively simple.
Piano translates instantly to melodica, but diatonic and chromatic are completely different. You need time, discipline and some music theory to learn chromatic. Good luck. Neil
Melodica is more straightforward either way regardless
This video was very helpful in seeing/understanding the difference in the two instruments. I was watching an ASMR video of someone playing music. It sounded nice. I could not see what was being played. It sounded like a Harmonica to me. Then it was said it was a Melodica. ... What is a Melodica? I asked myself? So I searched. I found your video comparison. Now I know the physical differences of the two instruments, how they are used and why a single note sounds the same from the two from an untrained ear. Thumbs up/like. Thank you.
In Prague, beer is cheaper than water. Na zdravi!
Changed the Voting System right at the end, there!
nice Ivan lins and tico tico no fubá example :)
Very well done.. I advise against using super glue as it makes a horrible mess and it is hard to remove. Great demo...
Such a wonderful and simple explanation of this process. Thank you for sharing this.
Glad you find use in my slowly learned lessons. Neil
@@nadlerus88 I have on older Hohner chromatic that’s really rough and this video came just when I needed it.
