💚🛩️ Follow our journey as we convert conventional planes to pilotless platforms to enable fast and reliable delivery to hard-to-reach areas. 💚🛩️
At Ribbit, our mission is to help people access the products, people, and places they love-and we achieve our mission through the persistent pursuit of better transportation. We retrofit aircraft with our autonomous autopilot and operate them under remote supervision to give you best-in-class air cargo services no matter where you are.
Whether it's civil, defence, or humanitarian cargo, we take pride in helping you reach the world's rural, remote, and coastal regions. Switch to Ribbit and stop compromising between speed, price, and service.

Ep #3: Automated aircraft project... Cessna 150 paint removal
In this episode, we take our Cessna 150 and remove it's exterior paint in preparation for it's retrofit with our advanced custom built in-house autopilot. Ribbit has been developing an advanced autopilot capable of automated taxiing, take-off, and landing for the past four years. This Cessna 150 will be converted into our second prototype and research platform for future developments.

Check out our airplane performing the first uncrewed taxi missions in Canada! Commercial airplanes spend 15% of every "flight" driving on the ground. Auto-taxi is an important capability for an autonomous plane, allowing the aircraft to safely and efficiently move between gates and runways while accounting for wind, ground vehicles, and crews working on the apron. When done well, taxi enables h...

Old paint looked pretty good, why strip and repaint?
We want the exterior paint to be representative of the quality and workmanship of the software we've built for it! Our plan is to paint it a neutral base colour and use printed graphic vinyl to highlight the Ribbit colour scheme and add nice details. A few spots were flaking off but otherwise, you're right that it was pretty good! We wouldn't have done this if it was meant to be a weekend warrior. This plane is meant to make a statement ;)
Thanks for watching and we hope you stick around for more :)
Never known anyone to apply paint stripper with a sprayer...😮
It's super handy and that's how the pros apply Socostrip. We used the Magnum X5 sprayer without an issue. Thanks for watching! :)
Make sure you clean all stripper from cables it dripped on. Years ago I owned a nice 1961 172. It had been painted before I bought it. As an A&P IA I inspected my own airplane. During the inspection I found the flap balance cable had only 3 strands remaining. It was under the upper wing gap strip. I had flown my family into a short field on its last flight.
Good suggestion and we're glad to hear you caught the issue before something bad happened. Thanks for watching and we hope you subscribe to see more of our projects journey! Safe flying - Carl
Our plane desperately needs paint. After watching this, we may give it a go.
Thanks for watching! If you have any questions that I didn't cover in the video, feel free to ask in the comments and I'll do my best to answer. Safe flying! - Carl
Thanks
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching and good luck with your build :)
had to get a waiver to taxi??? oh Canada..
Regulation can be annoying but they exist to protect people. Transport Canada has done a great job implementing drone regulations and is considered one of the more progressive regulatory aviation agencies with regards to RPAS. We think a waiver is appropriate in this circumstance given that we operated a 900 lb unscrewed aircraft on an active runway. Things can go bad quickly, and a waiver ensures responsible companies and individuals are undertaking this kind of work. Thanks for watching and we hope you stick around for more!
@@flyribbit nothing like paperwork to ensure safety. The soviets were very progressive with regulations ensuring equity for all. More regulation please!!
Oddly satisfying 👏
Thanks for watching! We hope you stick around for more :)
Wish you were in Cen Cali
We considered it, but the frigid cold and maple syrup is too irresistible to leave... Thanks for watching and I hope you stick around for more videos :)
Nice vid! The paint with Socostrip looks like my palms after being in water too long
If your skin melts off like butter after extended expose to water, we recommend you see a physician 🐸
Thanks for watching and we hope you follow our journey! If you're in southern Ontario and looking to purchase Socostrip, we got ours from Hypercoat Downing in Mississauga. Give John a call :)
Lets stay with steam gauges. Youre flying to fly. If you wanna watch tv screens get a simulator. Its cheaper but it sure aint flying
Steam gauges are great if you're after a classic retro look, and they're cheap! But at the end of the day, it's a personal preference. Going digital makes more sense to us because we can pull data off the panel in real time and feed it to our autopilot computer as a secondary data stream :)
Great battery advice. I learned this years ago but it's nice to hear it passed along to people who might never have learned it.
I'm glad you appreciate the educational value :) Thanks for watching!
The only plane anyone ever let me fly was just like this, what a beauty
Cant wait for more episodes! Looks to be an exciting project. 😃
Thanks for watching!
Damn only 7 likes?? This is sick asf
Excellent!
Unfortunately, I only know piano keyboards
What a great flight! I can't wait till next time :)

Underrated
Amazing - well done!! Safety pilot at the ready, good to see a strong safety culture ;-) Hwo was the flare? It's hard to see on the video. Also, is it a radio altimeter that you are using visible on the screen? Curious...
Thank you, Emanuel! You have a good eye... On approach, we fuse GPS, altimeter, and laser altimeter measurements to obtain height above ground. The flare was butter smooth. Watch our unedited videos to see an example. Here's one > ua-cam.com/video/UqqxsHM_GZY/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Ribbit
i'd also love to know more about what the regulatory environment looks like for this, will it eventually be treated as a UAS in a legal sense?
Super cool! i'd love to see something breaking down the work you guys have done! how much of it is putting together off the shelf components and validating it all works together vs how much have you guys had to build on your own!
Great suggestions! We'll be sure to include a video of that in future posts.
