Thanks, I actually use a 10' cane pole, tiny hook and bobber, chum with bread and then use small pieces of PIZZA DOUGH. Once they school-up, one after another. Plus, throw in small bluegills and yellow perch as well. They really love the dough, they just don't like it if you add sauce and mozzarella, LOL!!!

Who doesn't love trains. since I was a kid playing with electric trains to the REAL DEAL. Trains are AWESOME!!! Agree, I love this part of MA!!!

You're welcome brother. I was born in 67 so I have a couple of decades on you, hahaha. Those were the GOLDEN DAYS of bass fishing. I got to catch and see MANY big fish in the day!!!

@Takeakidfishin you're right at my mom/dad's age they were born in 64 and 66. If it weren't for my dad, I wouldn't be a fisherman. If it weren't for Rocket and a handful of other older guys, I wouldn't be the angler I am today. I owe it all to you guys. Showing us young guys the ropes. It's a tradition that must be passed down. Nice hogs man!

We used curly-tail grubs with no hook, and they would just hold on all the way to the boat, LOL!!! Totally agree, love the tranquil sound of frogs croaking, good call brother!!!

Always sucks, but they have to win sometimes too. Wasn't the first time and definitely won't be the last. That fish took a big live bluegill. I use Eagle Claw lazer sharp kahle hooks, but it just didn't take. What was nice, 5 days later a 6lb. 1oz. A little redemption makes you feel a little better.

Also, if you want to see the 6.1, look for Huge 6lb. 1oz. largemouth bass destroys golden shiner on the surface video. The blow-up is INSANE!!! Unfortunately, my voice command on my new GoPro got confused and shut off. The vid I explain what happened, but you see the fish after landing it. She was a BIG GIRL!!!

AGREE, I use extremely sharp hooks, but it just didn't take. She hit a big live bluegill hooked threw the back, I feel the hook might not have made direct contact. You win some, you lose some!!!

Thank you, brother. I was raised to catch and release. Even saltwater, bluefish and stripers, I've always been a catch and release guy. I even crush my barbs in many lure applications. Funny thing, I'm a complete HACK when it comes to filleting a striper, so unexperienced LOL!!!

Crazy, I've caught MANY snapping turtles throughout my years but never on a lure. In fact, I have a vid on my channel dedicated to the snapping turtle, check it if you like.

@Takeakidfishin I believe it. My small bog pond on the Freetown/NB line had about 4" on it. I've got the itch to go but not now with the rain and warmer temps. The ice will be softer.

That's WILD!!! I've never hooked a snake before, that's pretty cool though. Wouldn't want to deal with unhooking it, that's for sure!!! LOL

Wherever looks appealing, structure, open water, weed edges, free line (no bobber) in deep water, so on and so on. Nothing more HEART POUNDING than watching a GIANT bass chase and BLOW-UP on a big native shiner on the surface!!! Give it a shot sometime.

I do too, I actually HATE hooking them. I do make sure that they're safely returned to the pond.

Thanks Rick. Usually every year, with exception of this year, we get a tremendous push of BIG bluefish into the New Bedford/Fairhaven areas. Depends on the amount of bait that flows in from the south. One of my favorite fish to catch, SO aggressive and fight SO hard!!! If you go to my posts section, I recently posted my biggest blue ever, an absolute MONSTER I caught chunking pogie in the surf in Westport, MA back in the 90's.

@@Takeakidfishin Wayne caught a nice bluefish in RI last Summer. Not as big as those ones you were catching. However, it was a decent size one.

Thanks brother. I catch my own native shiners and now and then buy some smaller bait. Believe me, I do enjoy throwing artificials as well. Nothing better than a monster bass chasing/blowing up a big live bait on the surface, heart pounding stuff. Definitely give it a shot, it can be exciting.

@@ricksimon277 Cool, I LOVE hammering blues. My area they typically show in early May. This year was very late due to lack of bait. 2020-2023 was INSANE!!! Epic nights of non-stop action, sometimes hours long with MANY double digits sized fish. That's why I crush my barbs, handling them can get dangerous. I usually start striper fishing in late April for schoolies, until larger bass arrive before the bluefish run. We will talk more as the season approaches.
