Obscured: County Jails, Mental Health & Accountability Barriers with Brett Sholtis
We want to share a new podcast with you! Obscured tells stories that unfold largely out of the public eye. Investigative journalists and creators of Obscured Emily Previti and Stephanie Marudas are sharing the latest episode from their series “From Words to Weapons” with Bad Watchdog listeners. Obscured’s sixth episode of “From Words to Weapons” focuses on how county jails treat people with mental health conditions. Emily and Stephanie talk with journalist Brett Sholtis, who investigated this issue in Pennsylvania. Brett investigated interactions between corrections officers and inmates with mental health conditions; specifically, he looked into how tasers, restraints, and other types of force are utilized within county jails. The conversation also delves into how a lack of transparency about what happens in these county jails can prevent accountability and public understanding of these issues. For more information and resources from Obscured, listeners can go to www.kouvendamedia.com/obscured/ and can listen to more episodes here. Cuffari Regularly Purges His Texts (Special Update)
Переглядів 29Рік тому
Last week was the first time DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari testified in front of Congress since Bad Watchdog was released. Lawmakers took it as a chance to hold him accountable for some of the decisions he’s made as inspector general, from his delayed notification to Congress about the missing Secret Service text messages to the sexual misconduct and harassment report his office never pu...
What to know about America's largest and least accountable law enforcement agency, CBP
Переглядів 40Рік тому
There are 16,000 law enforcement agencies in the country. But U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the largest. It is also one of the least accountable police agencies in the nation. Its jurisdiction is expansive, covering where 2/3 of the U.S. population live. It engages in racial profiling and is permitted to stop citizens and non-citizens without evidence that they have committed a crime. I...
Over Classified
Переглядів 42Рік тому
How did classified records wind up in the homes of former President Trump and two former vice presidents, Joe Biden and Mike Pence? In this week’s episode, The Continuous Action explains how the over-classification of government documents contributed to those news stories. The government has been classifying far too many documents - just about everything its intelligence personnel can get their...
Courting Disaster
Переглядів 42Рік тому
The Supreme Court has an ethics problem. The Project on Government Oversight’s Sarah Turberville and David Janovsky join Walt to discuss the need for a code of conduct for the highest court in the United States. The court’s legitimacy relies on the public’s faith in the institution, and it’s clear the American people believe the court has been politicized. It’s easy to see why. Private, secreti...

A 2015 membership roll for the Oath Keepers, a violent, anti-government extremist group, included hundreds of current or former employees of the Department of Homeland Security. That’s according to a leaked document reviewed by the Project On Government Oversight. Since the creation of the document, members of the Oath Keepers, including its founder Steward Rhodes, have been convicted of sediti...
The Authoritarian’s Fist

Imagine a world in which the president had unfettered power to use the massive federal workforce as a weapon against political rivals. In that scenario, federal officials would be forced to serve a political party’s interests instead of the public interest. Your access to federal benefits and services could be slowed or blocked depending on your declared political affiliation. That’s a world th...

Banned from Office!

Is Donald Trump constitutionally disqualified from running for president? In this episode of The Continuous Action, Walt Shaub and Virginia Heffernan examine a provision of the Constitution that bans insurrectionists from holding public office. The “disqualification clause” was ratified with the rest of the 14th Amendment just after the Civil War, and it hadn’t been used in the last hundred yea...
The Constitution Project at POGO - Learn more about the Death in Custody Reporting Act DCRA
Переглядів 144Рік тому
The absolute least we should be able to ask of law enforcement agencies is that they keep the people they detain alive - but they’re failing in that fundamental responsibility. Back in 2014, Congress reauthorized the Death in Custody Reporting Act (DCRA) to mandate that law enforcement agencies collect and report data on deaths that occur in custody. The law also requires the federal government...

Didn’t you guys fight for the power of courts to review laws?
There have been several failed attempts at creating IG for federal courts
I will never forget when this man spoke to my class during traning.
A lot of fuzzy logic in this abbreviated overview.

if the "Oathkeepers" Which are a private group, (of potentially dangerous people, or else nobody would ask them for security services, as that takes a specific kind of skills), are we talking about a private army here? A "PMC-group", as people in power like to call them? Or a "Partisan Police", as i like to call them?
Neat!😊
I did not realize the origination of the inspectors general was related to the church committee hearings. That's kind of funny to me right now
Hey, future here! Sorry guys. Pentagon’s 0-5.
Reapers are the ones now checking in
Smells like an 'inside job' to me. The whole damn thing was planned out from the very top ...down to bussed in protesters.
POGO is an excellent non-profit group. If you donate to non-profits you should definitely consider POGO. They're also the parent organization for one of my favorite non-profits: Center For Defense Information. They investigate, analyze and report on big military contracts, testing and oversight - for example they've done outstanding coverage of the F-35 fighter - the biggest boondoggle in boondoggle history - riddled with cost overruns, manipulated progress and test reports, etc. CDI is the best in covering military expenditure and providing real national security recommendations. The group was created and is still run by ex-U.S. military leaders, critics with inside perspective and a desire for a true, robust, but un-wasteful defense. They're newsletter is tops.
I found your problem: "Jed Shugerman joins Virginia and Walt to offer listeners a differing view of the executive: that of a faithful servant who is limited by the responsibility to take care in carrying out the laws enacted by Congress". You see, the thing with responsability is, It is countered by the "Executive Privilege". Which to be frank: Allows the Worst criminal to get off the hook scot-free. Why would anyone feel Responsible? We know, Bureaucracy and Administrative trickery is designed to make possible things Impossible, or expensive beyond reason, so it can be exploited, until it is only a shell of what it was supposed to be/do, and ofc achieve nearly nothing with it. Just so it can be written off again, as failure.
Neat
Great work
Fucking stoked! This guy is moto for me at least all week.
If you are not supporting the non profit gov watchdogs you are not being heard by those crooked politicians that reside in D.C. so I give!
I will fund this project POGO

I worked with him years ago and he is just as much the tip of the spear now as he was when I served with him.
They report to no one, they are definitely swamp creatures. Lump them in with the FBI and fire them all. When they come across real corruption, they're eyes go blind and find none. They are as corrupt or more than other swamp creatures in the FBI, CIA, NSA, etc. The nation needs an overhaul of all civilian government departments to be headed by military officers who can more easily be held accountable.
Strong work
Here are the real important questions you should be asking: who is trying to stack the court with left/commie driven by ideology? who is trying to undermine the integrity and legitimacy of the court? who is trying to undermine the court by releasing drafts? who is trying to intimidate the justices by inflaming tensions and resentment? who has threatened to kill the justices? Why do you start asking important questions and how the power the justices have?
that includes all you in military as well
need help to expose corrupted work place
Thanks you so much thanks you all BestRegard King Amendment King Of Sword
I don't kill bugs why should I vote to kill a baby the women want this so they don't want to pay for there Nighy of fun
In addition to a formal Code of Ethics like the lower court judges have, SCOTUS should have a formal transparency code, allowing for more accountability. First there's the problem of recusal. Strict guidelines should be established under which recusal is mandatory. Most SC Justices are given an option of when they 'retire', they can still 'judge' cases. Perhaps these Justices could serve as 'substitute' Justices in case of recusal. Ex. maybe Justice Breyer could be a 'substitute'. Another thing is the 'shadow docket', when SCOTUS hears cases 'in secret, in the dead of night', & public doesn't know what happened. Shadow dockets should be eliminated!
POGO is very informative & information given is understandable. I do feel that SCOTUS has become 'rogue' & there needs to be improvements like a code of ethics. One Justice has 80 ethics complaints, many of which can be viewed as violations. 3 Justices have committed alleged perjury under oath before Congress. SC Justices should not be above the law. They should be investigated, criminal referrals sent, if not to #DOJ ,then to an independent counsel. If warranted, they should be prosecuted, tried, convicted & removed. Impeachment takes a super-majority in Senate, an often impossible task.
When do we finally admit all of this is just an elaborate scheme by a infinately small white minority to hold power over the working class?
Aren't ya
This video needs more love algorithm, I didn't know none of this, and it is very important to know! Great video!
This is the position I would consider.
I know a little about Federal Government which i think was a good model..Is there a big difference between Federal Union with Federal Government? I can only give you codes hoping it would make our politics by adding philosophy with in pur system to better serve the people..38PnYiLCKtmybHExqELBAu826k223t6hKA_9dc334aa0e173145504a86081d91a0359e0927f6e6c1fb1d3cd4f08aecc392db
WHAT IS POGO?
No "two factor identification" for drone strikes? I need more to access youtube. I want to state here that i find it essential, that in order to actually authorize a drone strike, the target must be identified by someone from the ground in the vicinity. you need to identify the "target" anyway, to make sure, you "got your guy". therefore, Drones should only be allowed if there is a squad nearby, which can clearly identify, "the target(insert name here) went into that house, or car". Even trackers on cars do not show, if the target is sitting in it. It could be it's wife, father brother, sister, bringing kids to school, getting groceries, (or even a bit ridiculous, is a spy on the way to bring you intel) in it. I am used to pics from Iraq, where "Precision strikes" were shown on tv, over and over again. Seeing a house blow up does not clarify, if there were Terrorists inside, or if Omar Average and his wife had dinner in it. Or worse, a school class took place. In order to "follow" a target, no weapons on a drone are needed. Better optics? yes. You don't teach soldiers to shoot anything, just because it moves at a suspicious time. He must know what he is shooting at. Even better, if he can communicate, what he is shooting at. According to the website: thecostofwar.com The USA killed more civilians than the Taliban in the last 3 years of the war. Not much "precision" going on, i guess, despite having Veterans return to that theater for several tours. They knew "the drill". Carpet bombing could achieve the same statistic "failure", just in a much smaller period of time. And since the USA does not acknowledge the international court in Hague, why even pretend to care about legality? International war crimes do not exist for the USA. Unless it itself declares something as one.
