This is a terrible practice especially if your not watching the 5th wheel out the back. Hostling is all about habits. Trailers are different heights and if your not watching your 5th wheel you could put a hole in the trailer if it's too high. I stop at 5 feet then watch through the back door, once partly under then raise. You can see the grease mark on the front of the trailer were its been hit by a ffith wheel before.

when i do this in a tractor or yard horse i always tug before i lift! you can usually hear the kingpin jaws as they click a little between forward and backward!

Saw this about two years ago when I wanted to learn about 45, 90, alley docking it was and still is the best, most chill video ever, much better than some dbag trainer screaming in your ear to throw you off on purpose lol. 10/10!

Yes let's screw up both the trailer and the latch of the rig at the same time Hitting the trailer like this too many times will bend the frame out of straight and damage the latch itself

I was trucking for 2 years and just left trucking to go back to welding. But I was always curious what type of money yard jockeys made. Seems like it’s pretty easy but boring and repetitive.

If the trailer doesn't raise up an inch or two, the 5th wheel is too low. Bonus question: How do you get unstuck after accidentally passing under the king pin?

Hope you got the blue hose dummied off, I noticed you only used the red. If you don't dummy the blue you'll lose air mad quick because air still.comes out the blue when you step on the break weather it's hooked or not

Go under the trailer than raise your fifth wheel, drivers this is a video on what not to do 🤦‍♂️

The very first thing you said is one of my most important tips: Windows down (both sides, even in the rain), and radio off. Helps concentration! BTW, a tip for all drivers: grab the light cord by the metal plug. Enough times of pulling on the actual cord could pull the wires inside out of their terminals.

Those yard goats are easy to maneuver in with their short wheel base & being up close to the very front of the tractor unlike conventional cab tractors where you're further back away from it. Also those yard goats are the most common fifth wheel cabovers in the USA these days. I remember there was a mix of cabovers & conventional cabs on USA roads back in the 1980s & down. These days I very seldom see any cabovers besides yard goats, fire trucks, garbage trucks, crane trucks, & a few others.
