I bought my first pack of Nasturtium seeds last fall. I have yet to plant them as I’m not quite as confident in growing anything from seed. It’s the last week of May, so I’m assuming that it’s too late to plant them for this summer. My goal was to plant them in flower pots instead of in the ground. My seeds are called Dwarf Jewel, Non-GMO, Heirloom seeds by Gardeners Basics. The packet says to soak them up to 8 hours and then plant immediately or they will die. Will it be okay if I wait until next spring to prepare and plant my seeds? There is no date on the packet. Thanks for your advice. BTW, I’m in North Carolina in zone 8a.

I've never nicked or soaked nasturtium seeds but still have great success. I'm sure nicking and soaking makes them germinate faster, but in my own experience, I haven't found it necessary.

I’ve successfully grown Nasturtiums from seed for a few years with no nicking, no soaking, no sanding… keep the top of the soil moist… which you should be doing anyways. And the float test is for hydrated seeds only.

My raised beds warm up faster than ground soil . We use a cut milk jug to make a warm tent ( greenhouse) over the tomatoes 🍅 when we plant them in our raised beds . That works great . ❤

Likewise! I planned ahead to get mine going on St Patrick day so that I'm ready to harden off in April into May. I'd never heard of nicking them or filing them before, I followed the directions on the package and within 4-6 hours into the soak most floaters had sunk. I also soaked them in cold tea, I was told years ago this kind of medicates them against pests and or birds. It's always worked for me before, I'm especially hopeful my peat pots will be ample come planting season.

The reason yours isn’t as orange is because your not adding tumeric in it which is the coloring agent for some popular store bought brands. They do use other dyes though. But that color is also coming from Worcestershire sauce and tumeric.

Side note about using Mayonnaise instead of miracle whip in these recipes. It’s important to always use mayonnaise in just about every recipe that requires a thick, creamy white spreadable sauce basically because miracle whip tastes like store bought mayonnaise if it were also a used gym sock that was fermented.

Anyway I appreciate you keeping it real without fancy gadgets.

The only thing that drives me crazy is I looked and I can’t find the exact measurements and she says the measurements of the onions but I didn’t hear her say the measurements of how much mayonnaise I’m assuming it’s a cup, but still I’m not for sure and that’s the only thing that with these videos that are driving me crazy is that most of them don’t include the measurements.
