Should You Use a Micro Four Thirds Camera for Bird Photography?
Venture into the captivating North Cave Wetlands in East Yorkshire! Join me on a chilly, overcast day of birdwatching as I seek out the elusive feathered residents of this serene haven. Armed with my trusty Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and versatile 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 lens, I managed to capture beautiful shots of both male and female reed buntings, alongside a breathtaking encounter with a Redwing - a bird I had never seen before.
North Cave Wetlands is a birdwatcher's paradise, brimming with diverse wildlife and stunning aquatic landscapes. This nature reserve is a testament to how human intervention can enhance natural habitats, making it an essential spot for both avid bird enthusiasts and casual nature lovers.
Shooting with a micro four thirds (MFT) camera like the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II offers a fantastic balance between portability and performance. Despite the grey skies and cold temperatures, the MFT system's lightweight design and excellent image stabilization ensured that I could capture sharp, detailed images without any hassle. The 40-150mm lens provided a perfect range for photographing woodland birds, allowing me to zoom in on my subjects while maintaining a comfortable distance.
Tune in to witness the beauty of the North Cave Wetlands and discover tips for bird photography using a micro four thirds system. Perhaps you'll be inspired to visit this incredible spot and create your own nature photography adventure!

Is the Lumix TZ95D - ZS80 Compact Camera Worth buying in 2025?
Definitely still a great camera❤
Thanks, yeah agree 👍
I'd say that APS-C compact cameras with pancake lenses are better.
Fab, they definitely are extremely good, tha ks for watching 👍
TYSM
You are welcome 😊
I have that lens too ! I would like to get the 40-150 pro with the 1.4 teleconverter for my EM1 MK1 unfortunately 😂 i want the EM MK2 because of pro capture!!!! What type of food do you use to attract the small birds
I want that lens too, but I want the lens more than the camera. I usually have some fat balls in my car in case I need it, though meal worms are good for Robins and blackbirds etc. Thanks a lot for watching 👍
@@MyPhotoJourney I want both but i would make due with the lens 40-150 pro on my EM1. The picture still good 👍🏾 with non pro lens.
Think I've seen this before but just watched it again great your open and honest with this one 👍
Ah cool, thanks a lot. If you are thinking about doing it, go for it. I am happy to share my knowledge 👍
amazing video keep the good work up :)
Thank you very much, that is nice of you to say 😊
Theres no object option for me unfortunately...
That's a shame, I double checked mine and it's still there. Do you have the latest version? 🤔
@MyPhotoJourney yeah I do! Turns out they have just hid it more. I had to scroll down to the bottom and find "learn more and submit requests here"... Sneaky lol thank you
thnx a looooot
Thanks a lot for watching 👍
I found it in my instagram group chat with some friends
Great video although a bit traumatic for me as your location for taking the Tudor building is exactly the point where my Pentax MX film camera and tripod took a dive into the Witham 😒😒 Lincoln is my closest city and love night photography there as well👌👌👍👍
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting. That ledge on the other side of the railings is very sketchy, and it's a shame you dropped your pentax, but I can believe it. Cheers 👍
What if I dont have a Facebook page?
You would need a Facebook page to link your business account, otherwise it will not work. Thanks for watching 👍
@@MyPhotoJourney yeah, I just tried it today and it works perfectly! Thank you for this tutorial!
It worked!!! Thanks 😊
Brilliant, thanks for your message 👍
Some very good images of Lincoln, it’s been a while since I last went there ( son and daughter both went to Uni there). Thanks for taking us through your process, it’s very helpful.
Thanks a lot for watching and for your comment, and as I tried to convey in the video all places have these shots, and it's a case of try and try again until the best shot is nailed. Cheers 👍
I encourage you to keep sharing your insights - well done. My time was well spent. Thanks
Thank you very much for watching and for your nice comment 👍
I just bought one second hand for $5 . Thanks for the information on it . Great job.
Thanks a lot for watching, $5 is a great deal 👍
I’m not seeing privacy center on my phone it’s just help account status and about
That's sad, I have double checked my account and it is showing for me. Do you have the latest version 👍
@ yes
I have the option of buying a 650D for 110 euros or a 70D for 225 euros. Would you say the price difference is justified for the 70D?
Thanks for watching, I'm not sure and the 70D is definitely a nice camera with good features, good luck 👍
You have managed to create some lovely images here well done.
Thank you very much for watching and for your nice comment 👍
Is there any adaptor for this camera to run it on power instead of batteries?
Thanks for watching and for your question, sadly no it can only be used with batteries 👍
@MyPhotoJourney oh, right then. Thank you for the reply
Despite the low light you managed some good images. Such a shame to see the canal in this state, but good to hear it it to be restored. Yes the 17mm 1.8 is capable of achieving very good images although mine doesn’t get much use now as I tend to use the 12-45 f4 pro with my OM5.
Thanks, what tends to happen when I'm with the family, which I often am, I don't get much time to work on the photo, and I probably can do better given more time. Thanks for watching 👍
Still used my 650D at 2025...always amazing result for me...
Fab I bet, thanks for watching 👍
Also, thanks for the history of Gainsborough! Fascinating! I must make it a point to visit at some point.
Ah yeah Gainsborough is an interesting place👍
Great review. Thank you. I own a G7x, and took it to Rome with me...8 years ago, and by looking at the photos from that trip you would think I used a professional DSLR. Phenomenal camera! Regarding changing settings via the lens, Leicas, many DSLRs, and all film SLRs allow for one to change the F-Stop on the lens. I grew up with film cameras, so I'm used to changing settings using the lens. I actually like this feature as it is more tactile and I like having more of my three major settings (F-Stop, Shutter Speed, and ISO) in the form of knobs. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching and for your comment. I like this camera, and yeah of course on film cameras you change the aperture on the lens, though on the camera I had it was very stiff to change the setting. Cheers 👍
This was working for me about a month ago but now I no longer am able to toggle read receipts for individual people.
1/13th sec, f/4 at ISO200... Blimey, the light must have been low! Excellent photos. Subscribed! 👍👍
Thanks a lot for the subscription, I feel like I'm still at the start of youtube and your support is great. Yeah it was very low light and I didn't want to up the ISO or reduce aperture 👍
Some really nice shots here - including your own. Thanks for posting them.
Thank you very much indeed for watching, I'm still at it 👍
You had the odds stacked against you there but you got some interesting shots!
Thanks, yeah I was expecting a much more interesting place, and I'd arrived with little light left. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for sharing that really interesting video! You got some great shots without one of those huge lenses weighing you down!
Thanks a lot. I was really a pleasure to be there and I ended up doing less photography than normal and more chatting!
Anyone know how to get EOS Utility for it?
Hi, you could try this link: I'm not 100% certain it will give you what you want, and I guess you have already tried it. www.usa.canon.com/support/p/eos-digital-rebel-xti?tab=drivers_downloads Thanks for asking!
Super
Thanks a lot for watching and for your nice comment 👍
It is sensitive to flare when pointing in a direction where sunlight can “touch” anywhere on the front element.
Yeah like most lenses you will get flare, and I always use the hood, but I think it is better than most. Thanks a lot for watching 👍
this chrome extension does it for free whounfollowedme.net
2.8 lens is 2.8 lens regardles sensor size. If you use same settings, same lens you will achieve same DOF. the problem is you need to be further away from your subject. Why do people still talking same nonsense? 4/3 cameras are used with wider lenses and only because of that there is different DOF.
Thanks a lot for your comment and for watching. I agree with your comment and I posted a video showing exactly your point to dismiss the doubters 👍
Amazing🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you 👍
Thank you very much
Thanks a lot for watching 👍
Does it worth to buy in 100$ with including 18-55 lens
Yes, I think that is a good deal, good.luck 👍
Lenses do not work perfectly at all, they are crippled from brand to brand, like IS and aperture ring not working on olympus
Ah that's a shame, and thanks a lot for watching and commenting!
You need to Make a new video they changed the layout its looks NOTHING like yours on my phone Samsung S23 Ultra .. could also be cause I'm on android so its a different layout
Thanks a lot for letting me know, I'll have a look. Cheers 👍
I just bought one for 100€ with a 18-135 STM lens - its a steal :-) Unreal quality for money.
Fab, great deal, enjoy 👍
This is not a kit lens. It is a pro lens and lives on my EMD1 Mii. I do street photography and live between 35 & 50mm full frame equivalent. It is nice to have f2.8 through the focal length. I seldom need to open the aperture so much. That being said I love this lens. Fortunately on the used market this lens is very affoEd able. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I love that 35mm full-frame focal length, and you are right having f2.8 is super if you need it. Thanks again for watching and commenting 👍
I have recently embraced motion blur. Intensional camera movement. I have started using a three stop ND filter so I get the blur I want without overextending the image. I am capturing people on the street with this technique. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Fabulous, well done, and I'm sure you are creating nice shots. Thanks a lot for watching 👍
Finally! Thanks much, this really helped!
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting 👍
Have you tried the VC one with image stabilization?
No sadly not, but I bet it is very nice, thanks for watching 👍
Thank you 🙏
Thank you for your comment 👍
Hi. I saw your video from 1 year ago where you talking about MFT camera. Can you make a video where you will compare picture from you smartphone vs. picture from MFT ??? Same place, same conditions, view... I think theres no such a video on UA-cam.
Ooh, that's a good idea, thanks will do. Thanks for watching 👍
You didn’t let the dull weather discourage your interest.
Thanks a lot, and you can find a photo in all conditions 👍
Love your illustration that you don’t need super camera gear to take good pictures. Keep it up.
Thank you very much indeed for watching and for your nice comments 👍
Is it tough without a tripod?
It is rugged without a tripod and not too heavy for a long lens. Thanks for watching 👍
i live their too
Fabulous, I only had one visit and enjoyed it a lot 👍
Great, I enjoyed my visit 👍
Hello from Finland! Nice video! I'veen shooting star trails lately with my OM-5 using Live composite. Could not be easier (especially if you have the "Starry Sky" autofocus feature in your Oly). Tips: first make the stars pinpoint, then back off just a little to get thicker and more colourful trails. While shooting, use a torch gently to give light to trees etc in the foreground. You can focus to Polaris or anywhere else, use the trails as background for something nice. Also product or flower painting with Live comp can give beautiful images, see Rob Trek. There is a fellow finn, who makes stunning light painting art and even commercial work with the live comp. Video exists in OM Systems channel, I think. Some people use Live comp illuminating caves or tunnels, possibilities are endless...
Thanks a lot for watching and for sharing your experiences with Livecomp, I am impressed. Thanks again 👍
Thanks for your tips, I have just acquired the OM5 and looking forward to trying the starry sky feature
@@alangamble3236 There are many dedicated videos for both Starry Sky and Live Comp in the OMSYSTEM.Cameras channel. Definitely worth watching. Have fun!
