Favorites of 2024
It’s that time of year!
Here are my favorite images of 2024 in chronological order. I usually try and keep these presentations short, but it was a great year! This will take 10 minutes of your life to view. I hope you enjoy it!
It includes images from Yosemite National Park, CA; Wakodahatchee and the Keys in Florida; Lodi, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, and Pacific Grove in California; Killeen, Texas; Mono Lake, California; Muncho Lake, British Columbia, Canada; Kluane Lake, Yukon Territory, Canada; Valdez, Lake Clark National Park, Denali National Park, Kenai Peninsula, Homer, Katmai National Park, Salcha River State Recreation Area, all in Alaska; North Lake, California; and of course, the American River, here in Sacramento, California.
Many were taken on Wanderer adventures, and I look forward to more adventures in the upcoming year.
Happy Holidays to all and Peace on Earth!

Well, I’m happy for us that you had a chilly rainy day to work on videos that we could see! Not so much for you with gloomy skies! But, it is good to change things up, no? I enjoyed seeing your shower! Very cool!

Found your channel because I was searching for info on the Benro Polaris - liked and subscribed. I'm considering purchasing it for daytime panoramas, but the astrophotography looks amazing. Seems like a nice retirement life - wandering around in an RV and exploring with photography...
Hi Lawrence, the Polaris will give you lots of opportunities for both the pano work and the Astro. I did a pani job a few months ago for an organization that wanted to create an 8 x 24 foot wall mural. The Polaris shot a multi row pano that I stitched together in Photoshop to make a large enough file. And yes it very fun traveling around in Wander!
Hi Lewis, Thanks for the video, very o=illustrative and interesting! I would like to use it with a telescope for deep space photography, could I use it?
I don’t have any experience doing that, but I have heard of many people doing so. It’ll all come down to how big and heavy your telescope is. But the Polaris can handle a fair amount of weight.
Nice photograph, I did photograph 25-30 years ago, but I'm thinking of getting back into it. Does anybody know if one of these tracking heads is worth having if you live in an urban environment, or is there to much light pollution. I know it wouldn't be perfect but how much of a difference do you get after editing, or is it a waste of time?
A tracking head will allow for longer exposures, therefore the abililty to gather more light information which includes the color of the stars. But if you live somewhere where you really can't see the stars it probably won't do too much good.
@ljkemper thanks for the help, I think maybe I should just try some long exposures and see what I get with just using a tripod, and then that might answer it probably. Thank you.
i read only about big problems with this thing
I haven’t had any since several firmware updates ago. When it was first released the software really wasn’t ready but Benro has addressed those issues
@@1ndrr_ljk wow good news thank you
@@1ndrr_ljk than you are lucky . untill 2day lots of problems dispite al the firmware updates .
Thanks for the video. Always enjoy seeing your work. I get the desire to include more video, but seeing the end product is always the payoff! Be healthy and safe travels.
Thanks Scott and safe travels to you too!
Great! Nice to see this, two of our favorite areas.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing this Death Valley adventure, Lewis! Great captures and a nice little taste of a place I have always wanted to go, but have not made it yet. During the early drive in 'fast forwards' I was reminiscing of a fall 1985 workshop I attended given by you and William Neill and another fellow whose name I could not recall -- and then you mentioned him -- Jeff Nixon. I remember his forte at the time was B&W with a view camera. An embarrassing moment from the workshop I still remember was having my tripod-mounted 35mm SLR and framing some iconic valley view and pressing the shutter and Jeff leaned in to view the frame and said, "Yep, you got 'im" (or something similar) --- noting the jet trail I had in one corner for my composition. 🙂 It is a lesson I never forgot about checking the frame corner to corner for any unwanted things. My other takeaway was the lesson in getting a 'custom ISO' for each slide film brand/speed matched to one's camera/meter combo by making a 'test strip' of exposures and checking for where the best detail was retained across the gamut. That helped me for many years to be able to shoot knowing pretty well what the image on the slide (or later, 6x7 strip) would look like once processed. Thanks for that too!
Woodrow thanks for the great comment. I am so glad the three of us were able to help you advance your journey as a photographer!
I’m from Michigan 77 yrs dad was DNR Officer! Taught me about bigfoot and most fearful Dogman. Had a firefight with Dogman. Killed with 12gage head shots 1955. Dad took us to Bigfoot. He new Indian language. Talked to big Alpha Bigfoot. Dad and Alpha understood each other,!us kids were protected fore ever after his words to them. Now that I live on new Farm different county I still have protection no cougars or black bears on farm. Alpha protects me for my Dad new Indian language. 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Thanks, Lewis, for sharing these entertaining adventures with us. I've particularly enjoyed your time with the bears, but I never imagined the Bear Tours quite the way you show them. Looking forward to the next chapter!
Thanks, I am glad you are enjoying them!
Great adventure Lewis. Glad you enjoyed yourself. I got 3 cracks on my windshield, but no flats.
At least no flats, I hope you had a good experience too. I heard there were very recent fires and a lot of people got stuck for a few days
I love the aerial shots!
Thanks!
Wow! Great adventure, stories and photos. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together.
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
I drove the Dempster about 20 yrs ago, (but only as far as the arctic circle). Your video makes me want to go again!
You should, the road wasn’t too bad!
Excellent Job, just got my benro polaris, this will help me get started. Thanks!
Thanks and good luck!
Thanks Lewis for this enjoyable trip, fly-free for me :) You picked masterful POVs for the camera and showed us a great journey. Have a wonderful time going forward!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your trip. This brings back great memories of my two trips up the Dempster in a truck camper, before the road to Tuk was finished. Made it with no flat tires and no chipped windshield. I see that Tuk has changed now that the road is there. We flew in and enjoyed a tour of the community by a local resident. No campground at the Arctic Ocean.
Cool hearing about your experience!
Great Adventure!
Thanks Nancy!
Have a great adventure Lewis!
Thanks Lance!
Looks like fun. Did you find you needed reservations for most places in advance?
We did not have a reservation anywhere. We’ve only stayed at a couple of campgrounds. Mostly we have been Boondocking.
Love your fashionable headgear! 😂 Wow, I didn't realize they mosquitoes were so bad up there. Hopefully further North you go the less bugs there will be.
I hope you’re right but I am not counting on it! Actually they are not too bad where I am at the moment.
Great to see all the images and video here, Lewis! And since I have the Sony 200-600mm, if you feel you need to have a bit more reach than the Tamron 100-500mm gives you, you can borrow mine!
Thanks!
Safe travels, Lewis
Thank you!
Beautiful photos of the Milky Way, it must be really dark , Bortle 2-3 perhaps? also, beautiful blending of ground with sky on Photoshop! I watched you level the tripod and calibrate the Polaris, then star align and then track. Before watching your video, I spent a night in the desert with a a group of Astro aficionados and I had some serious issues with mu new Polaris: First my leveled tripod was not enough because Polaris went wacko and un-leveled itself. Second, the calibration: my iphone was off by a few degrees and although GPS is not dependent on cellular reception, and there was no cellular reception where I was, my calibration wasn't accurate at all. Third, 1st star alignment was nearly impossible because I could not center it with the joysticks on the red target. when going to fine adjustments, nothing moves... So, After struggling with leveling, calibration and alignment, I took shots of the Milky Way arch from 30 degrees to 50 degrees and my stars came out streaking...what a disappointment. I must practice some more to master the Polaris. any advice will be appreciated.
I've had nights like that before the newest updates. Having the tripod level is reall important. The Polaris will end up out of level after each shot since it is spinning and tracking. You need to double tap the joysticks between shots. The gps, compass reading can be off I recommend you watch this video ( I am going to do this from now on) ua-cam.com/video/kAs9low_QeU/v-deo.html. As far as no movement ith fine tune mode, the movement is painstakingly slow since it is fine tuning ( I wish it were a bit faster). SO you have to try and get as close as possible with the gross movements
sound like it needs a wheel icon to fine tune instead of the slider tabs...seems like it uses excessive memory also.@@1ndrr_ljk
very nice --- I learned a lot -- I think I have been trying to calibrate my polaris with an incorrect positioning of the iPhone. Your demo helped!
I am glad you enjoyed it!
Very cool. I had no idea Benro had that tech.
Thank you, and yes it is really amazing!
Lewis, That is some serious technology! Great job! Beautiful images.!
Thank you!
Very nice
Thank you!
How do you use the entire volume of the upper cabinets when the top of the cabinet protrudes farther than the bottom?
I guess you don't, but so far I haven't bumped my head. That's the advantage of the slope.
The slope is also a nice design touch. Something different.
Amazing details. Very well thought out. Enjoy it often!
Thanks Bob!
Very nice!
Thank you!
Where have you gone so far since getting the camper van? As a new owner of an Earthcruiser EXP, I can appreciate how great and convenient it wiull be to pull over and sleep at a location where you can just roll out of bed and get a sunrise photo, or get a sunset photo and then head into the camper for a dinner and sleep. So cool. Enjoy!
I have only had the opportunity to use it twice so far. You can watch the videos on both of those experiences on my channel. www.youtube.com/@1ndrr_ljk. Enjoy your new rig! I am planning to drive to Alaska this summer.
Love watching your videos! I think Wanderer was a great idea! I look forward to seeing more vidoes.
Thanks Bob!
