When we are talking about fuel and water tanks, it is impossible to have only one tank slack, unless one WANTS to roll over. On my 90 foot fishing vessel for example, 1,000 lbs, with a 26 foot beam, will create a noticeable list! With 1,000 gallon fuel tanks, 4 per side, and 6,000 lbs of fuel in each, this means, switching from port to starboard, and back every twelve hours, to control this list. Same with the water tanks. They are in the stern and 3,000 gallons each. Running one empty before switching over, 24,000 lbs, or 12 TONS each!........it would roll over before it went empty. This is the case with most vessels.
