I am also learning the Mig 21 because the cold war server is always so heavily stacked with f-4's. at first I was learning it begrudgingly, but have come to really enjoy flying it. Your technique has taught me much!

I completely agree with you. Not only does ED lie in your face, they gaslight you as well when you call them out on it (with linked forum posts as proof).

ED is one of the two- or they are in a financial crisis or they are getting too greedy, at this point i think is the first one, i think they don't know how to spend their own personal money and they thought by 2024 they would be booming like crazy but they aren't, the growth of DCS has almost come to a stop, so now they need to do these things to get money, obviously it is cheap..10 euros is nothing, is like 3 beers in the bar, but this upgrade should have been a gift to the users, anyways i don't want to bash ED too hard because i know they are under a lot of pressure and to be honest DCS is my FAV game ever, i had a lot of fun in the 5500hours i flew, i have to give credit to that...DCS is getting a bit boring tho

I believe Eagle Dynamics is facing the same challenges as many other industries-they need more money than ever before. I suspect a monthly subscription model is on the horizon. Mark my words!

People whning about a "cash grab" i mean really its the cost of two cups of coffeee for a complate retexture of the F5 with no mod requirements plus full moving pilot for VR users a big thing. Im glad i pid just for the amazing windscreen effects you get now. You want to see a cash gran ho have a look at Asobo charging hundreds of dollars for a pile of garbage aircraft that have NO realistic characteristics and the whole new sim is a shambles. $10 is a LONG way from a cash grab and just saying it is really sets a tone that implies that people in the DCS community ar happy to have others work for nothing..sorry im happy to pay for 2 coffees for everything in this patch if your not its about time to re-asses how you value others time.

yeah the issue isnt that 10 dollars is alot of money but rather its a poor value purchase when contrasted to past module upgrades. I remember that for 10 dollars you upgraded From A10C to A10C II. That 10 dollars not only got you a updated 3d model ( original A10C also got cockpit model update), but users got additional features such as new weapons ( APKWS, Laser maverick, laser jdam), new avionics systems like scorpion helmet cueing system and eventually ARC 210 Digital satellite radio. I would of hoped that they upgraded the F5E to a Swiss F5E or US navy F5N ( which is a swiss F5E buyback) given the 3d model exterior had new dorsal fin antenna of said Swiss F5E, i hoped maybe it would have Digital radios and INS. Its also disappointing that remaster launch the F5E has less official skins then then original F5E had.

Well, this is the best video I've seen about the subject. Also, thank you for pointing us in the direction of the refurbishment mod. Some things I would like to comment on: 1) Thank you for being direct and honest. You, sir, did an amazing job by saying what had to be said. 2) Yours was a very balanced and interesting analysis of the case. You pointed out the problems with ED marketing and community communication, on how they are very bad on conveying things to their customers. In the end, I believe it is all by design, it is part of their marketing strategy that I like to call "hype and drop": they hype up a product, with newsletters and beautiful trailers, in the end to drop a new sale, a new product and after taking our money, to drop development of said product. And, in the end, their announcements are exactly like you showed, they are outright lies. 3) What I've been seeing from the community is that being a paid upgrade is not the problem. The problem is that it is an upgrade that sets the bar very low. When we got the A-10C II it introduced new textures, but also new weapons and the helmet display. Those were substantial changes. But now, some very clever and eagle eyed customers found out that the "new and remodeled" cockpit is just a re-texture. What a shame. 4) You forgot to mention that one of the announced features for this upgrade were the AoA condensation vortices and afterburner effects. So, after said 7,000 hours of work, you are paying for something that will still be worked on. It is the early access to a paid upgrade. So, in the end, it is exactly like you mentioned: this release feels like a desperate cash grab. For me, it seems leftover work for the now defunct Modern Air Combat that they are trying to sell as a new thing. Unfortunately, this release is just another stone on the long Road to Apathy that ED has been laying out for them for quite some time now.

There are more liveries if you chose other countries, or just "blue" or "red" coalitions instead of defaulting to USA. This is not just a skin upgrade. It's a completely new and much more detailed 3D model. There could be much more in the background as well. Stuff that needed to change to get a model that will survive the next 8-10 years of changes to the core game. 7000 hours? I agree it *seems* excessive, but one single person could definitely not do it within one year. What we get is an entirely new 3D model with some skins. Not a lot of skins, but twice as many as you have shown. Templates will come "before Christmas" apparently, and mod'ers will flock to this new model in any case. 10 $ is not much for a new model. Saying it's not worth it is just silliness, and everyone with the old model can switch back. People probably expected that both the new and the old model would coexist as it does on a couple of other models. Perhaps ED should pay more attention to customer's expectations? I don't know. In the long run, keeping updating legacy code is definitely not a good choice when moving forward. The customer is not always right as any developer knows by experience. Sometimes you just have to walk away from potential projects because of this. Now, ED cannot just walk away from the customer base. What they can do is to aim more at newbies rather the old crowd who has stopped purchasing more models in any case. Now, if we at some stage could get an F-5A I would be *very* happy :-) In any case, I think this new F-5E is just superb, and bought it the day it came out.

I was thinking exactly that, but I did not find the time to test it. The remastered version is for users who don't want to be bothered by installing liveries and different cockpits. Thx for confirming that it's an easy reversal.

Well 6900h went into Marketing 😅. Well i didnt buy any new module this year. Something with the release of the F-4 took me away from DCS,...can't really say what. Maybe it was just to much advertising. Started to play Uboat three month ago.

The mod works for the flaming cliffs F5 also, same instructions just match the F5 name in your main DCS installation folder.

ED need to ensure the RAZBAM modules will continue to be maintained (not just keep working in their current state). It is as simple as that. We payed them money, so it’s 100% their responsibility. I’m so disappointed in them. It makes me sad I can just be supportive of them, but, they brought this on themselves.

As someone who hasn’t ever really delved into mods, I don’t have that backdrop as a downside. For me the only downside really is the loss of the liveries, but I’ve just seen they’ll be added later. The reflections, vapour and wing flex are the most evident improvements; but I do kinda wish they’d adjusted some of the audio, because retaining the same sound design kinda stops it feeling as new as it could. I’ve also spotted a few things that I think are worse, but without being able to go back and check the old one I’m not sure whether I’m just misremembering… But when jettisoning ordnance, there’s no movement in the wing at all - I’m sure there used to be a bit of flutter at the wing tips. The wing flex is also the same regardless of ordnance load; I was hoping dropping a bomb on one side, requiring some roll to balance the plane might showcase some slight twisting, but nah - wings bend the same whether the wing is clean or heavily loaded. I can see why people are tilted, but I also don’t mind paying the fee - I do prefer it over how it was on the whole, but it was my favourite module so perhaps I’d feel differently if I didn’t have such an attachment to it.

Please could someone confirm the name of the cockpit mod used? I tried one but could not get it to work.

I had a lot of hope for DCS last year, it seemed like the game was moving in the right direction. I couldn't feel worse about the game now, I feel bad for everyone new I brought to the game earlier in the year.

7000 hours on the PATCH!!! The PATCH!!! Most of that was on the deck crew cmon man if you’re gonna bitch at least be real about it!

What a missed opportunity to update the F-5 graphically AND give us some new features so people could use other F-5 variants, like a mission editor added fuel probe, and mavericks. A lot of people would have easily paid $50 for that. Me included.

thanks for highlighting straight at the beginning that all F-5 users will get the functional updates; 10 dollars is just for the cosmetics. Most human beings spend more than 10 dollars per 8 years for cosmetics, so this seems to be OK to me. However, I still think it was a missed opportunity to add some relative simple stuff like additional AIM-9s or a refueling probe.

Funny how these days if ED decides to make your favourite module it leads to despair. Visual and technical aspects are really subpar compared to third parties, and with additional monetisation on updates provided by Heatblur or Razbam (still depressing) for free, it's a really tough buy.

It's another thing to add on to the list of "things nobody asked for". In this case, a THIRD PAID version of the same aircraft, and being really shady about it as well. I was able to get the upgrade with some miles left over but if I didn't have that I wouldn't have gotten it. I refuse to give ED any more money until I can feel confident once again that my purchase, regardless of 3rd-party involvement, will be secure and not at risk of going away, being refused a refund in anything but store credit, or being dragged down into forced-obsolescence so they can squeeze more money out of their customers like apple does with their phones.

I got a module I fly almost exclusively out of the abandonware black hole, with possible future work. The paid update is just a backgroubd noise to me. Especially people demanding "F-5A VARIANT" and what not. The 3D pilot and the aircraft external models are of the latest gen and the cockpit is fine.

ED has already announced that the missing liveries are comming and are currently not available because of the changes to the external model. With a little bit of research, you cold have known this.

Could anyone explain to me what was promissed but not delivered? There were no signigficant cuts in the scope of the paid remaster. People wanting refueling probes and other gadgets are just that - people wanting. Nothing more. The only gripe I understand is the encryption of the model and textures, which may well be addressed. And people honestly thinking old skins are going tonwork with a new mesh are just dumb :)

I asked the question to ED in regards to future updates for other modules. Basically if we had to pay for others in the future with this type of update and never got a response back. Bit of a rip off for the remastered pack considering people have bought a module. I'm all for supporting devs but this is a joke!

Price for a bad burger in a bad reastaurant, dont cry so much about it. They've put man-hour to create it, so they should charge, this is not charity. I liked the new visuals so much.

Isn't there a graphics setting for canopy reflections now? (I think?) Looking forward to the series. I really struggle in air combat in the Anton but I love the thing.

FYI, the RWR search thing was already fixed a few patches ago!

I used the refurbished mod too, but I disagree that it's better. While it's definitely better than the old stock, having all textures 100% perfect and uniform in not the optimal look, little wear and tear is detail that makes the thing look real. I'm OK with this paid upgrade, but it is borderline - it would be good to see at least a little bit of extra functions/upgrades like radio, radar, or 4x aim-9.

Unforotally, I totally agree with you on this one. The things you discussed and several others make me wonder about the future of the game. ED isn't acting like a health business, and I doubt that they are one. It's unfortunate because im not interested in any other video games in the genre at the moment. Real flying is expensive. Its well over $100 an hour in my case. So, im looking for a game that is as close to the real thing as possible. DCS is the only one currently in existence, and i just wonder for how long.

It fascinates me when guys complain about the cost of something that they don't need or have to buy. The damned game is FREE. You can buy as many or as few modules as you want. Most guys that play DCS have money to blow. Pay the 10 bucks. Or don't. But, for Pete's sake, stop the yipping and mewing.

I wonder if this might be reheated work they did for the abandoned Modern Air Combat thing they were working on a few years ago. Same with adding this plane and others to Flaming Cliffs. If so, it leaves an even more bitter taste in my mouth than I already have from the ED happenings this past year. That won't stop the apologists who just think everyone should eat up this sloppy work, because it's only the price of a coffee, or burger etc. Not the point, you deserve what you put up with. It's not all negative though, the new volumetric stuff and lighting tweaks are very pretty.

Oh wow, an honest review of the F-5 remaster. So many other DCS content creators have been just towing the line. "ThE DeVeLoPeRs NeEd To Be PaId FoR ThEiR wOrK!" Okay, well they can be paid by people buying the F5 in the first place, like I did. I already paid them for this jet. I'm waiting eagerly for the Mirage F1M, and Arges isn't even going to charge for it for those who bought the F1 CE when it first came out.
