What's The Deal With Renomed Scissors?
Hey the crystal flash has a brighter and dull side does that matter much?
Grand river is so low, not many steelhead got over the dams yet. Need rain. Steelhead are south of dunnville or in the lake still.
Good stuff…. Thanks Chris. 👊🏻
I learned something. I have been using slotted beads wrong. Thanks for demo.
Glad to hear it!
for the algorythem 🙏
be interesting to see the actual points of the aforementioned.....
Great segment Chris. Too many anglers don't pay attention to actual tippet diameter. If you're needing perfect presentation and lowest visibility, you should be comparing diameters. Interesting thing I see when I'm fishing with folks in Europe is that they often know the diameter of what they are fishing and not the break strength.
This is awesome, thanks guys
SA & Orvis tippet/leaders are all I've ever used since the mid 80's. Best stuff on the planet by far.
Where would we all be without Chris?
In Chris we trust.
Too kind, but glad you find them helpful!
Yo mention it but are totally ignorant of the suppliers of the tippet which there is no reatting.
Definitely underrated info, especially in the gear world people seem to never think of this, people look at you kinda funny when you tell them you're using 3lb fluoro (but it's drennen) for steelhead
Well done that's what matters
Great video, and nice cast! ;)
Old me is going to have to by one tired of bringing out my magnifying glasses
Really great update guys - full of on-point tips. Look fw to this every week. Appreciate it
We're glad you like it!
When I was out for salmon on the Humber last Friday, there were lots of fish already on their redds, but I saw significant numbers of fresher fish still moving upstream, suggesting that a few more days of good fishing remain.
Great video.. thank you
Thank you kindly. You are so great in explaining technique. Please make more videos about your float setup, weight, type of the rods, suggestions about gear for starters like me. We beginners would appreciate your hard work!
Thank you! Will do!
These lecture format videos need more love they are great! 👍
Would like to see other centerpin cast videos
We just released a Wallis cast video too!
Can't beat it for an easy cast! Would love to see some more pin content, basic rigging and the like :)
As always thanks for the info Chris. Hope you and the team have a great Thanksgiving weekend.
Same to you!
Beautiful! This is one of the best wing instructional videos on you tube. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
11oz???? Nice new design. Over 1K in price I'm thinking.
We're thrilled with them! You can check them out online at the link in the description,
Any difference between the steelheader islander?
Yes! The aesthetics of course, but also a beefier bearing that will add durability, the heavier duty clicker, and most importantly, the 5" design!
Love the 5ft polyleaders!
I'm a big fan of the Poly leaders.
This should have way more views ! great tutorial
Thanks! Please share it with those who'll find it useful!
Great tips. Thank you Drift!
Happy to help!
I assume the Grand is still too warm?
Jealous of that rain! north shore superior is dryyyyy :(
What size jig hook are you using?
These work great anywhere from a larger size 4 all the way down to size 12's!
Thanks Chris really enjoy the fishing forecasts.
Glad you like them!
Appreciated!
Really appreciate these forecasts!
thanks guys
Great breakdown, thanks Chris. A beetle and a larger caddis have been the ticket for me on the dry the last couple times ive been out.
Great to hear!
What an absolute gem of a video! Thanks a ton 🍻
Glad it was helpful!
Now this is a stupid question but I fish mostly erie tribs from pa to Ohio these should work on these steelhead right sorry for the dumb question
Absolutely! We would feel very comfortable fishing these anywhere on the great lakes!
Love sharing your posts to my Toronto Urban Fishing Ambassadors!
Great trick, but a better idea is to buy leaders with soft welded loops with a nice smooth finish, not that easy to find but they are available.
Nice - thanks Chris. Any suggestions as to techniques and flies for salmon this time of year? Are we indicator nymphing / egg patterns or are we swinging wets? Thanks, Wallace.
Thanks for the comment Wallace! Both methods will definitely work. If you are looking to get a fish on a swung wet/streamer, early season is the best time generally as fish are fresher and more aggressive.
Thanks - see you on the river!
How about teaching everyone how to tie their own bass leader, far superior to any $10 “bass” leader off the shelf. A Bonefish leader is absolutely not suitable for bass flies and y’all should know that.
Hey there! Nothing says we're not going to teach how to build a bass leader in the future. Off the shelf tapered leaders are a big-time convenience, and after servicing thousands of customers, we've found there is far less interest in building leaders than people may think. Bonefish leaders are also fantastic for casting certain bass patterns, we and many guides we work with use them frequently. Tapered off-the shelf leaders (knotless) do really well when fishing weedy areas as well as knotted leaders often catch on weeds and other debris. Thanks for your feedback!
Do you use perdigons for steelhead
Hey Justin! In our experience we do better with other flies (pheasant tails, hares ears). I think part of this is because we're often fishing slower runs and pools where the softer fibers in those flies move better. That said, perdigons definitely do work for them!
To clarify that thought, we're talking about steelhead specifically. Perdigons work extremely well for resident trout!!
Bass leader. 4 -1/2 foot 30 pound butt mono section, then blood knot to 2 foot of 20 pound mono and then blood knot to two feet of 16 pound Fluorocarbon. Trust me, very good leader construction for bass.
This year I started using something similar and it's super nice to cast
Built leaders are great! We often tie and use them ourselves, but do find there are circumstances where a knotless leaders is far preferable, such as where there is a ton of weed where we don't want our knots to get hung up.
Great advice from Chris, as always!
Great video. What would you recommend for walleye particularly in spring during river spawning
Hey there! We wouldn't generally recommend fishing for actively spawning fish, seasons are usually closed in rivers where they would spawn as well. With that said, there can be some great fishing after the spawn is completed (usually later in May). We fish a lot of similar subsurface flies that we would fish for bass including clouser minnows, leeches, and other baitfish patterns.
I went to the shop last summer to pick up some bass flies and someone recommended me that blue and olive cray pattern at 2:38. I can't remember who it was but I want to thank him for all the Bass I caught on that fly! It sinks fast and super durable too, just lost a claw on one after almost a year. Awesome video as always Chris.
It's a good one for sure!! We might know where you can get some more!
Great video Chris! Vey insightful! -angelo
