Great conversation as always. Personally I'd have been happy with either a UK or Spain win (if there were no war of course.) I guess you could try working out who would have won by removing Ukraine's votes and bumping everyone else's score up maybe someone at EurovisionWorld will do it as an article 😉. It would not be totally scientific though as first choice Ukraine votes would not necessarily have gone to the next song down. As far as juries go, you can't have it both ways with exceptions for your preferences. In the end we got lucky with the right songs for both Ukraine and Spain (definitely I like the Spanish/Italian voting system most.) BUT I do absolutely hate the fact that a song can qualify purely on jury votes as happened with Azerbaijan. It's a TV show and the public clearly would rather have seen many other songs than that one. This should be addressed with a minimum televote threshold to advance.

Hy guys. I want to avoid to comment what happened during the voting process at Eurovision Song Contest 2022. For sure, this song is not a " piece of art ". It doesn't knock you down with a complex melodically line and lyrics to induce a complex emotional state.. It's just an explosion of basic, simple, yet, overwhelming joy. What's for sure is that this song will be one of the 2022's huge market hit. You'll hear it (and dance it) where ever there will by a crowd joined together to have a good time and a smashing party. For sure, Zdob si Zdub & the Advahov Bros will make a lot more money out of this song than the Kalush Orchestra. We just received a crazy enough remedy to help us go along such crazy times that we are living now We should be thankfully for that Mulțumim frați de peste Prut. In the final Chanel didn't have vocal track. Maria, one of the dancers did the back vocal support. Spain would have won for sure. Amazing performance. Few artists in the world can do that live

I don't like Slomo - sorry but I find it very generic and not musically interesting. Chanel's performance is great and I'm happy that Spain got a great result. I'm a bit worried that between this and France flopping we'll be seeing less experimental and ethnic songs and more of the stereotypical, dare I say trashy, bops next year and it's a shame. I think your mate is right there's no guarantee Spain would have won except for the war and I think that those calling Chanel the GOAT is too much.

Pedro... you say that you do not want jury to overpower the vote of people, in general and particularly in the case of Vidbir. But remember that Chanel won Benidorm thanks to the jury. Televote within a country for a national selection is something not really fair or balanced, there can be a lot of organised voting, influence... You could consider that the jury make sense. We would have had Tanxugueiras going to flop hard at Turin if we applied your rule of juries that should not overrule the voting of people.

regarding Ukraine. You and I are the only people who did not like the Alina Pash entry. The chorus was ok and I really did not like the speaking part. . There were better vocals at Eurovision-Turin. The Kalush entry may have looked unpolished at Nationals but it was a regular song that was performed for Eurovision and not a production created for Eurovision. I believe they won in spite of politics, not because of politics. At end of Grand Finals Oleg knew his comment risked them being disqualified, but was more important to him than winning. I'm sure they would rather come in last in a song contest than have this horror be happening to them.

It's funny with Germany - the zany marmite song gets jury points but not televotes (although it was rock bottom with most amount of juries - six, along with Moldova and not in that position with a single televote) and yet the MOR song that you'd think would get some jury love but nothing from the televote does the reverse.

It's funny as I started watching this a teeny radio station started playing Spaceman.

Iceland top 3 song, and the staging reflected the lyrics perfectly. So much better than the Portuguese song which people erroneously compared it with. The crowd noise overwhelmed the Czech song in the final. The Belgian song wasn't anything special. The Macedonian song was better. The Israeli song was better than Romania.

In full honestly, if you think Czech Republic and Montenegro songs were dated, then you should apply the same comment for North Macedonia, with this late 1990s / early 2000s R&B type of songs where female singers sang about bad boyfriends who ruined the relationship. I can get you do not say it was dated because Andrea and her song had a real charm, but it is dated too.

Thanks for this video. You have a point on the comparison Austria 2022 / Moldova 2021. I, however, have some comments or reservations. Switzerland: I loved him and voted for him in the final (could not vote from Spain in SF1). For me he was an obvious qualifier, he stood out on the night of SF1. There are songs really necessary for a portion of the audience, like Belgium 2021 or Denmark 2019. These songs were not liked by a huge part of the fan base but were actually liked by many people for sure. Then for televoting maybe it is hard for them to get enough love in each country to crack the top 10 and get points. But these songs are relevant and legitimate. It seems you want a double televote with your suggestion or you want juries to interpret what the masses will want. Diversity and niche entries are relevant too and I am glad that we got such songs in the final (Portugal 2021, Belgium 2021 etc ) thanks to juries. Albania: more than the drama, it was the hot mess on stage, the bright lights and pink colours, her outfit... They have failed as a team, I think they got nervous to be outshone by Chanel so they went for something too ambitious and poorly thought. Just compare with the quality of what they did at Festivali i Kenges. Latvia: something was strange in the staging. There were lots of moments showing other group members lisyncing the lyrics instead of showing the main singer in green, in particular in the beginning. Really strange.

They did dirty to ROENLA , on the recorded version from the people she sings better and her voice is not shaky but on the tv they did her dirty by the angles and the technical issues regarding what we heard on the tv . I saw many other private videos and they all sounded very good in the area from Ronela . No wonder why she said to her interviews that The EBU had an eye on her but Ronela proved that they really did dirty on her and after Polticanvision everyone understand why Ronela didn’t get through and why the jury didn’t let her through .

Albania and Austria had really awful staging. It seems they wanted to harm themselves. They didn't deserve to qualify. I really liked the Albanian audio track but the live performance was such a disgrace I'm happy we got rid of Ronela. After seeing her dreadful rough performance (just look at her outfit - outrageous!) it would be shocking she qualified. The same for Pia Maria. Couldn't she find a proper outfit, for goodness' sake? So tasteless. Also both vocals were disappointing and final-unworthy.

I share your concern over qualification due to juries alone. However, I don't think the jury voting criteria should be made to reflect televoters, that would kind of negate their purpose. Rather there should be a minimum threshold for televotes to qualify to the final. If a country doesn't receive televotes from at least 5 countries and/or at least (say) 20 televote points, they should not qualify. At the end of the day it is an entertainment shoe and if they don't get at least that minimum then the public won't want to see them again, regardless of the juries opinion of quality or the affinity votes of 2 or 3 countries. I mean Azerbaijan got ZERO public points in the semi. It's ridiculous that they qualified. At least Switzerland got votes from 6 countries.

Hi Pedro. I didn't want Moldova to qualify because the song annoys me to death, it's simply too much. Iceland surprised me as well but I must admit I love the Swiss song, I find it really sweet. As for the Albanian song, I stand with the jury, I'm afraid. I'm not conservative at all but Ronella wasn't vocally good and her whole act looked vulgar, "cheap" not in a monetary way.

Eurovision shoud be connecting people from different countries and nations ( even if I believe in only one nation HUMANS with different languages ( details🤞 ) ) so idea of mixing and adding different elements actually make the song different new unique. This kind of music style is very widely used in both Greek and Turkish music. I guess it's the kind of style we both share and appreciate.
