2 old riding mates for over 20 years looning about on big adventure bikes on and off road.
Picture this, December 2020 sat in the garage worried about job prospects for 2021 and thought to myself "if I'm still in employment January 2021 I'm getting back into motorcycle riding", who else would be interested.....??
And so, February 2021, I got the Africa Twin, and the journey began. Thanks, Tony :-)
Tis all sh!ts and giggles, until someone giggles and sh!ts.. 😁
Fun times...👍🏻🏍💨🤙🏻 @Matt.

Took my Triumph Speed 400 over today. No problem.
This is like skiing on piste. The rule is if you're uphill of other skiiers it's your responsibility to avoid them because you have the speed and initiative. Same in this trail situation. Yes the newbie rider could have done more to check before changing rut but the approaching rider should have slowed and watched for signs the newbie had detected his presence then pass. Signals and mirrors aren't expected on the trail. If you want to use road principles, consider the fault if a driver is rear ended. It's virtually never the fault of the person in front. How can it be? POV rider ends up in the nettles but that doesn't make him the victim here.
😂😂😂😂
Even single track pro s yell to pass (if its close quarters), besides you do have a horn on that thing as well. All is good after your adrenaline dropped a bit... ;)
Your own fault 🤡
Always someone else's fault......Perhaps you should not be going so fast..........
Lots of plodders on track by the looks if it but always going to get that at event like this i suppose. Id probably end up doing the same as you 😂
Yeah mate you're right, you are a d head riding too fast and paying no attention to other riders.
It's a trail ride experience specifically designed for an adventure bike first experience not an enduro practice. Funnily enough I had to have a go at someone riding the same bike at this year's ABR event for barging his way through a narrow pinch point whilst everyone else queued politely.
Way too many people in the group !! Would never ride in such s big group ! A lot of comments are from people who, obviously, have never ridden off-road.
100% Your Fault Going Far too Fast
Both of you is exactly while I will never attend the ABR Festival lol.
You were riding way to fast in traffic. Remember speed kills..... Glad to see both of you ok.
Thanks for the advice, out of curiosity how fast was I traveling??
@@mattbadley1896 Greetings from Iceland and thank you for a nice video. In my humble opinion you were riding to fast based on circumstances not MPH, passing other riders with questionable skills on trail requires caution. Visit us here in Iceland for the ultimate adventure ride experience, here you can go pretty much as fast as you like without bumping into others. Cheers and safe riding mate.
@@arcticbraga322 many thanks for the offer, Iceland looks epic, maybe one day when the channel hits enough subs we can come over for some proper off roading 😍
Signal manoeuvre - its offroad 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol, we've hit bigger pot holes on the M6 than the little rut the chap was trying to avoid, if you do a life saver check and see a bike coming what's the point in checking at all
The Bridgestone Trail replicates a one way green lane. All green lanes are roads. The ABR trail is not one, but is treated as one for the purposes of providing a trail riding experience for ABRs, particularly for those who have little or no experience of riding off tarmac. On a road a motorcyclist is perfectly entitled to ride anywhere he/she sees fit on the carriageway. Undertaking is illegal on a road except when filtering past stationary traffic. The guy who was hit would be required by the highway code not to ride erratically, obstruct overtakes, etc - but this isn't actually a road and he's inexperienced and such people do make mistakes! All road users, plus other people in any other situation, including this one, have a legal duty to exercise duty of care not to injure or cause distress to others, particularly in situations when there is a high likelihood that inexperienced people may behave erratically. In this situation that is to be expected by any experienced rider, same as if you were riding past school gates. If you want to overtake slow down, make sure the slow rider knows you are there and only overtake on a straight section where you can see that he has a smooth surface that he won't need to deviate from. Expect the unexpected and you won't have to face the Spanish Inquisition. It's like skiing, driving, or even racing, the onus is on the person overtaking to do it safely. If that's not enough fun then you're really in the wrong place and should be on the TRF trail or even at an Enduro practice day! They only cost £30, you don't need a licence and you can go fast as you like and overtake anyone you can catch! But even there, you're still expected to overtake safely and you might still come across a novice who does something bizarre!
So, I had slowed down, saw him do his life saver but then wobbled across the lane in front of me
This is just one of the things that sadly will kill off the ABR.
With different rider abilities there's always going to be an enhanced risk element, hope the event continues for many years but I see changes are required, especially with the volume of traffic on and off road.
@@mattbadley1896 Yes agreed. I’ve been 3 times now and it’s fantastic but they really must put a cap on the number of tickets sold I feel. For the first time this year I felt they were a bit overwhelmed. I don’t want it to become another Glastonbury though with sky high prices and ticket ballots.
@@paulyflyer8154 we've been 3 years on the bounce as well, great event, did feel somewhat overcrowded though, where we camped we had 2 vans and 5 tents, ended up completely blocked in and the trail was closed twice. Good luck to Alan and his team at ABR Festival for 2025!!
Its this "if you're not at Charlie Boreman level of ability you shouldn't be offroad" attitude that kills it. 😏
For every one's sake we truly hope ABR Festival continues, we do however see changes on the horizon given the volume of riders and course closure, Ragley Hall have already announced that more controls are needed

@MrAlexMoto yep, busted collar bone here too, stings a tad when you do it. Tis all fun and games.👍🏻🤣🤣
Was a slow coming together, no one was hurt,
Your fault all day long, way too fast around riders of unknown ability.
Please explain, I'm all eyes
Yep, Billy Bolt wannabee........ "look how fast i am"!
This is why it was a 20 down this part of the trial. There was some horrible ruts, that, for us beginners be horrible to navigate. Some of the "experienced" riders riding was shocking for us newbies. Tailgating us, passing close etc. 0:19 for the proof it was a 20mph down that track. Its a leisure ride, not a race. I was clearly marked up as a newbie, and I still had "experienced" riders not ride considerately. I'm putting experienced in quotations, as, proper experienced people, would ride to help the newbie gain their confidence on off-roading. Not pressure them everywhere.
Anyway, dont forget to like and subscribe, you can all come for a ride and point out the errors in my riding, i genuinely will take you up on the offer and post it here for all to see 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
and you still set off like your arse was on fire afterwards!
That was tame mate, you didn't see the line of bikes trying to get past us haha
It wasn't on fire, had half a bramble bush stuck in it 😂😂😂
That was your fault.
Maybe, maybe not, we both learned something very valuable that morning, KTMs crash well
Just as well throw your seats away
There’s riders of all abilities at the abr give them some space and slow down it’s ment to be fun for everyone
I agree, hence why id slowed down, watch the start of the video, no one around so we open the taps a little, come across the riders on the right and I backed right off, another lad slotted in between us fine...
He even did two shoulder checks yet you still smashed into him. The riders here in Portugal go about three times the speed you were doing. Everyone knows that when overtaking someone, it’s YOUR responsibility to ensure a safe pass. Simple as that.
Tried my best, the old guy wobbles across, what was I suppose to do, stop and wave him across. I could see him looking but equally mate the terrain in front of him was all of a 3 inch rut, why move into the line of passing traffic??
@@mattbadley1896 The throttle works both ways...... Given a bit of maturity, you'll find that out...
@@mattbadley1896maybe to a “hero” like yourself it’s a 3 inch rut, but when your not experienced that can be quite daunting. He’s trying to shoulder check while also navigating the obstruction, should’ve been a clear warning. Rider behind (and the one who’s got the skills to do so) has got to make a safe pass. POV cams fault all day
Potty mouth Nothern gob-shite ! I’m glad the other riders were there; to ensure fair play. These things happen… no need to point the finger at the new guy ! It’s a trail purposefully designed for those new to off road ! Your overtake wasn’t safe or necessary!
With all due respect lad, we shook hands and moved on, someone needs to go drink a shandy and kalm down
Potty mouth "gob-shite" now now.. kettle calling the pot black?. No need... if you don't like what you see, leave, unsubscribe. Trust me, you won't be missed. More animosity in the comments, than at the incident.🤦🏼♂️
I've been on group rides with people like this who have to be the fastest and are constantly passing everyone trying to always be at the front like it's a race.
@bushpig6837. 🎯🎯
Who's racing?? Are you lot watching the same footage as me, who ends up in the brambles??
@@mattbadley1896 You are! You end up in the brambles because you crashed into the back of someone. You were completely at fault in the accident in the clip and everything you said at the time just shows the sort of attitude you have where nothing is ever your fault, and now you're here in the comments still trying to justify yourself. Read the comments, literally everyone is saying you're at fault.
Stuff happens on a trail, you're not on a road! If the 'old boy' had dropped his bike you'd have ran right over him!! Maybe slow down a bit and give your self some space from the other riders...
@@Jon-g2b fair comment, but I had left a nice gap between myself and the chap in front, wasn't expecting the old chap in the right lane to wobble across in front of me
@@mattbadley1896 He was trying to turn left before the guy in front of you had even passed him, you could see his intentions way before you crashed into him!.
@@olivernewell6902 do you see him wobble across the lane??
@@olivernewell6902 I'd also backed it off to get past him without startling the guy, hence why I said "it's a good job I wasn't going fast". if you can't ride the terrain in front of you on such an easy trail you shouldn't be off-road in my opinion, tuition and practice in a safe environment is my advice, don't wobble round a course when 15,000 other bikers are trying to come past you.
@@mattbadley1896 Yes I can, even through your camera footage I can see he wants to turn left way before you reach him. This is the perfect place to practice?? Look ahead, be sensible. This was an open day for all abilities, not a race event!!
As the Spanish Inquisition says "Always expect the unexpected".
@@ttblade my spider senses obviously weren't quick enough 🤷🏻
It's trail riding, you have to be prepared for other riders to do unexpected manoeuvres to avoid hazards you may not have seen. Mirror signal manoeuvre doesn't apply. And if you think it does, why were you passing on the left?
True story. 👍
@@TimHayford-bp6mn in the heat of the moment, sat in a bramble bush, things get said, the old boy was trying off road for the 1st time and sh1t himself over a 3inch rut. nice little learn for us both I think. No harm done that's the main thing
@@mattbadley1896 Glad to see the mindset changed after the heat cooled down. It's all a learning curve for everyone out there, with the mixture of abilities and experience. If, like me, you've rarely been through a deep rut off road, see that will make you go 50p 5p, unknowing on how the bike gonna react. Only way to learn, is by doing it safely. I've been that old chap, and had someone glance into the side off me. (too close following on gravel/ stony road, with another rider overtaking). Again, I was all marked up in a Hi-vis, with a L tapped on the back, to signal I'm a newbie. We did similar, no damage done, shuck hands and away we went, with him in front.
I think the fact we shook hands and moved on speaks volumes, was I speeding, definitely not, should I over slowed down to the same pace and the chap on the right, probably
@@mattbadley1896 It doesn't look like 20, but, we can't definitely say, as it was posted 20mph down this section, for exactly this reason. Agree there, if ya find a herd of, what looking like newbies pootling a long, ease off, observe, and then go. Also, it's all in the spirit of the ABR, of not holding grudges for accidents. It'll sneak up on ya, or loudly in this case.
I reckon I should get a 10 out of 10 for my epic dismount 😂😂😂😂
Glad we all came out in one piece buddy 🙏. I was the one behind that you'd just overtaken - my first off-road ride and loved it.
Was it your mate on the trail bike? How's he doing, I can't make out if he fell off or just wobbled to a stop..
@@mattbadley1896 yes was my mate on the trail bike - he was riding slow to lead me as it was my first time off road. He's fine. I felt for him as he's actually a superbly competent off-roader. All good, no-one hurt - just bruised egos.
